3 Dear Friends, Every teenager needs at least five adults not counting their mother and father to positively impact their lives. Chap Clark has written in his book, Hurt: Inside the World of Today s Teenagers, What our youth need are adults who are willing to take time and listen not judge, and be there for them. The Diocesan youth ministry office works toward putting youth and adults together in settings where Jesus Christ is the center to make those positive impacts. I invite all youth in grades 6 12 and their adult advisors to join us at any or all of our Diocesan youth events. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me. Blessings,

11 Youth Event Policies Registration Deadlines are posted for most events. You MUST submit a completed registration form and deposit by the appropriate deadline to attend an event. You cannot show up to an event without being properly registered! The balance of the cost of the event is due at check-in. Attendance: All youth and adult participants at each event are expected to be present for that entire event. Any exceptions must be cleared in advance with Debi Clarke, the Diocesan Youth Missioner. Adult Sponsors: FOR FALL/SPRING YOUTH EVENT AND THE CATHEDRAL LOCK-IN ALL YOUTH PARTICIPANTS ARE REQUIRED TO BRING AN ADULT SPONSOR (age 21 or older). Each congregation must bring one adult for every 1-5 youth, matching genders if possible. All sponsors must also complete a registration form and pay the appropriate fees. Sponsors are expected to stay in the cabins with the youth (for overnight events); see to the needs of the youth in their group (including transportation, behavioral, physical, mental, and spiritual well being); enforce and abide by event rules and the Community Covenant; encourage participation and participate themselves; cooperate with and support conference coordinators, staff, and the other adults. Any adult or parent may attend a youth conference as a sponsor.
12 Youth Event Policies continued. Medical Release Form: ALL YOUTH PARTICIPANTS MUST COMPLETE A MEDICAL RELEASE FORM FOR EACH EVENT. This form will be completed online at time of registration with payment. If you have any questions contact the youth office at dclarke@dioceseofnj.org or call the Youth Ministry Office. Adults do not need a Medical Release Form. Scholarship money for all Youth Events is available for youth and adults in need. The fund is limited so we ask you to pay 1/3 rd of the total and obtain 1/3 rd from your church. You must clear this with your priest first and you are responsible for seeing that it is paid. Once your 1/3 rd and your church s 1/3 rd have been received, along with the registration form, you will be considered registered. At that point the diocese will pay the other 1/3 rd. Visit or call the Youth Ministry Office for more information. Cancellation / Refund Policy: A full refund will be given for cancellations made three weeks or more before the event. No refund will be given for cancellations made less than three weeks before the event.
13 Youth Event Policies continued. Cell Phones: Youth are only permitted to use their cell phones during breaks and free time as it can become distracting to the community time we have together. Parents/Guardians will be provided phone contact information for each event to leave messages for their child or to contact them in case of emergency. Inclement Weather: In cases of inclement weather, check the youth website at or call ext. 36 for updated information on postponements or cancellations. Visitors: All Diocesan Youth Events are open to appropriate visitors. Please contact The Rev. Canon Debi Clarke at the Youth Ministry Office before the event if you plan on visiting. You must also check in upon arriving at the event. Youth Events in the Diocese of New Jersey are open to all 6-12 grade youth (except where noted) regardless of church, denomination, ethnic group, gender, sexual orientation, nationality, or difference of ability.
