We intend to use the page, and our website, to advertise and invite friends, family and community members to our many activities, worship and social, over the next celebratory year of our 200 th anniversary. Feel free to like and share our FB page! What is membership? Most of us are familiar with the idea of membership because of our involvement in clubs or teams or even joining a local gym. At its most basic level, membership means that you belong, that you re connected, that you re a part of things. Most people don t know that membership is a concept that originates with the Church. The apostle Paul was the first one to refer to people who put their trust Page 2

3 in Jesus as members of the body. He said that the way we relate to one another and are connected to one another in Jesus was just like how the parts of our bodies relate to and are connected to one another. Like the parts of the body we re different, but we need each other to be the church that Jesus intends us to be. Another metaphor the Bible uses to describe the church is the family of God. That implies both connection and relationship as well. So, on one level, membership is simply about saying I m connected. I belong. The basis of that connection though is something much deeper than, for instance, being part of a club. What connects us in the church is our relationship to Jesus. When we claim that relationship, we not only bind ourselves to Jesus, but also to Jesus people. Membership in the church therefore also involves a claim of faith a readiness to say that we belong to Jesus, that He is our Saviour and Lord. If St. Andrew s has become your church home, we would like to welcome you into membership by transfer of your membership from another church or by profession of faith on Palm Sunday, March 25th. 4 The Bicentennial Blessings Tree: In recognition of our Bicentennial year, we have put up a blessings tree in the Christian Education Hall. We would like you to have the opportunity to share one of the blessings that you have received from being part of the St. Andrew s Fellowship. On the pastoral care table you will find a basket with tags. Please feel free to write a note on one of the tags, describing one of the ways that God has blessed you through the ministry of St. Andrew s. Please feel free to use more than one tag and to sign it! If you are unable to come out to church, we would like to include you in the project as well. Please feel free to contact Monica at the church ( ) and she would be happy to fill out a card for you. Throughout the remainder of the bicentennial year, we will have an opportunity to invite friends and visitors to also record a memory of their association with St. Andrew s. The tags will be hung on the tree, and some of them will be incorporated into a bicentennial scrapbook. 5 Stewardship Living is giving. We live life best as we give our strengths, gifts, and competencies in the service of God s mission. Dr. Kennon Callahan, Pastor, Consultant, Coach, Author Gratefully How Then Should We Give? Giving grows out of the joyous recognition that all we have comes from God in the first place. It is a response to God s grace. Intentionally and freely Christian giving is not haphazard, but planned with thoughtfulness and prayer. We give, not because we have to or ought to, but because we want to. Off the top As an expression of trust in God s providential care, we give off the top of our income instead of what is left over after everything else has been looked after. Regularly We grow in generosity as we develop the habit of regular giving. Proportionally We covenant to give a certain percentage of our income to God s work, according to what we have been given. Cheerfully We give, not until it hurts, but until it feels good. We learn that giving is a joyful act. With an approved increase to our Church Budget for 2018 of 6.3% now is a good time to review your offering to St. Andrew s for this New Year. The pre-authorized remittance (PAR) plan provides a convenient and effective way for people to give faithfully in a consistent manner as they have determined or by envelope. Thank You. 6 CHRISTMAS BAZAAR We would like to report a successful Christmas Bazaar taking place in November Whereby we raised $4,300.0, half of this amount went to the Pikangikum water project, balance to the Kitchen renovation project. To help us get ready for the bazaar creators and knitters enjoyed Thursday mornings of Crafts, Conversation and Coffee, we intend to start this workshop again in April. We would like to acknowledge all the hard work and dedication to all those involved with the Bazaar. We look forward to hosting another Christmas Bazaar in November of this year.
