Christian Service Community Center CCSC Back to School Program envelopes are in pews through September 2. Your $45 donation will provide an underserved child with a uniform, shoes and school supplies. Students who participate in this program lack academic supplies and clothing/uniforms needed to start the year on equal footing with their more advantaged peers. Christian Community Service Center (CCSC) provides school supplies for more than 6,000 students in Houston, including our partners at Yellowstone Academy. Amazing Place Memory Cafe Saturday, June 9 10 a.m. noon 3735 Drexel Drive Amazing Place is seeking volunteers to help with The Memory Café casual conversations, activities and coffee for those with early stage dementia and their caregivers held on the second Saturday of each month. Gracewood Graduation Thursday, June 14 6:30 8 p.m. The Island Help greet and serve at the Gracewood graduation celebration. Gracewood s residential program provides moms with children the help needed to eventually live on their own. The program offers counseling, job training, positive parenting techniques, and other life-skills training needed for successful independent living. Hearts Transformed Mondays, June 11 October 8 6:30 8 p.m. This is a 16-week curriculum-based support group for adult female survivors of childhood/ adult sexual abuse/assault or domestic violence. This dynamic group provides a safe place for survivors to heal and rebuild their lives. Grief Support Group Tuesday, June 12 5:45 7 p.m. This group, which meets the second and fourth Tuesdays each month, is designed to help grieving participants process the intense emotional suffering associated with the loss of a loved one. Strategies for coping with the normal emotional and physical effects of grief such as loss, anger, emptiness, depression and exhaustion will help restore your stability and aid in recovery as you start to heal. Thank you for your support. The need for a larger chapel to serve for baptisms, weddings and funerals was answered by architects who re-envisioned the Old Church. They saw a new Christ Chapel in the Old Church by placing a dividing wall between the altar rail and chancel area. Christ Chapel will seat 200, with 150 on the floor and 50 in the balcony. The exterior of the building will be updated to match the exterior of The Church with the addition of seven stained glass windows on each side and a rose window in the chancel. The intimacy and Gothic feel will be enhanced by special lighting and wood paneled ceiling and walls. These updates and renovations encompass 38,501 square feet. What Parishioners Are Saying About Building for the Ages This is an extraordinary project for our Parish and the surrounding community. But it s an even better opportunity to remodel and expand our love of Christ. We will strive to see very new brick, new classroom or additional pew as a moment to make more room for Christ in our lives.
