Parish News and Activities SHAMROCK ACADEMY SUMMER BASKETBALL CLINICS The purpose of the summer basketball clinics is to provide the St Agnes children an opportunity to keep active in basketball

5 Parish News and Activities SHAMROCK ACADEMY SUMMER BASKETBALL CLINICS The purpose of the summer basketball clinics is to provide the St Agnes children an opportunity to keep active in basketball during the off season and to help improve and develop fundamental skills essential to the sport The Summer Clinics will cover: ball handling, passing, shooting drills, defensive technique and team/position play Cost: $100 for all 8 clinics or $15 per each individual clinic Fees are charged to help cover the cost of running the 8 clinics Any money left over will go into the general fund to help support the St Agnes CYO Basketball program Rainout Policy: Refunds will be rewarded for any clinic cancelled due to unplayable conditions Format: Each clinic will be broken up into 3 groups of boys and girls, grades 3 through 8, from St Agnes School, Parish and CYO, up to a total of 60 players per group Location: All clinics will be held on the outdoor courts at St Agnes School Dates: All clinics are held on the following Sundays: June 19 & 26, July 3, 10 & 31, August 7, 14 & 21 Times: Group 1 3rd & 4th grades 12:30-1:45 pm Group 2 5th & 6th grades 2:00-3:15 pm Group 3 7th & 8th grades 3:30-4:45 pm Registration: Information will be available soon There will be a small fee for on-line registration Lead Instructor: Charles Cunningham For more information, at: crc22369@gmailcom All members of the staff are CYO certified through the Diocese of Oakland WOW! May the balm of mercy reach everyone, both believers and those far away, as a sign of the Kingdom of God already present in our midst! Pope Francis also made a direct link to the corporal works of mercy, which include sheltering the homeless as a concrete sign of God s mercy The US Conference of Catholic Bishops teaches that Christ encourages us to go out and meet those without homes, affirming their worth and helping them seek a resolution to the challenges they face In response to these prompts, on June 24rd at 7:00 pm, the Saint John Vianney Parish Faith in Action Ministry will host a presentation and discussion on homelessness in Contra Costa, including concrete action items which can be taken by anyone The event is titled Beyond Winter Nights because we will explore what happens to our guests once the Winter Nights program ends each spring In realty, temporary shelters help, but are limited in their ability to address homelessness in Contra Costa New and creative ways to unlock access to housing are essential to truly make God s mercy manifest to the homeless in our midst Jasmine Tarkoff of the Multi -Faith ACTION Coalition will lead the program In 2014, more than 2,200 county residents lived in shelters, and many others lived outside of shelters in cars and homeless encampments 12% of public school students in the county are homeless, which means more than 3,000 homeless children In recent years, the county has seen a rise in homeless veterans and youth (ages 18-24), because families are unable to support their young adult children For further information, contact Greg Colley at ghcolley@gmailcom 6
