With gratitude I would like to share with you that I have been a priest for 30 years. I wish to thank everyone who wished and prayed for me last weekend. Of the 30 years of priesthood, I have spent 16 years in the Diocese of Oakland and 5 years here at St. Agnes. It has been a joy for me to serve you as your priest. I have enjoyed my priesthood every moment of my life and I am thankful to all of you for your love, co-operation and support. I wish to assure you that you are always in my prayers, and kindly continue to remember me in your prayers. May the Good Lord continue to guide and empower us in our Christian vocation. Today I would like to share a thought about The Priest which was shared by Bishop Barber with all the priests of the diocese. The Priest...no matter where he is located, the priest has to be the sharer of secrets, carrier of burdens, the fountain of consolation and the pillar of strength. Solitary, he is called father by thousands; Poor, he enriches the lives of thousands; Weak, he gives strength to thousands; Unimportant, he does things each day whose importance cannot be told in any tongue on earth. He is never too busy to hear another s sorrows; often too busy to realize his own burdens. He is a 24-hour -a-day man. He is called from his dinner; wakened from his sleep; disturbed at his prayers. He is at the beck and call of any of his people. He is the target of God s enemies, magnet of God s needy. Occasionally, he attracts attention; but usually he works unnoticed and unclaimed while he does the noblest work on earth - keeps Christ in the lives of the people. For more information, you may call Bob Rigor at THE LAMB OF GOD Behold the Lamb of God! We hear this phrase every Sunday at Mass, but there s a good chance that many Roman Catholics do not know who in the Bible originally spoke it. The phrase appears only in the Gospel of John, on the lips of John the Baptist, who utters it twice. In today s Gospel reading, John proclaims Jesus as the Lamb of God, and two of John s own disciples then follow Christ. A little bit later Andrew, who heard John and then followed Jesus, brings his brother Simon to be re-named Cephas, or Peter. A careful look at these Bible verses shows us the mission of everyone baptized into the Body of Christ: we must always proclaim our faith in Christ, so that others will follow him. We may not know how the will of God might work through those we bring to Christ; that is not the point. The point is that our ongoing mission as a church is to bring others to Christ, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world.copyright J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.
