Lumen Christi Library Down the Main Hallway NINTH HOUR by Alice McDermott, a National Book Award winner. The novel focuses on family, church, and her Irish American 20th century Brooklyn neighborhood. The area is served by a community of female superheroes, the Little Nursing Sisters of the Poor, presented as real people with temptations and frustrations just like ordinary people. Frustrated Sister Saviour, quips it would be a different church if I were running it. The novel is subtle, brief, and yet deep. Alice delivered a novel to ponder, from its moral quandaries to its wry humor and hypnotic prose said America (Catholic) magazine. c2017

In this Sunday s Gospel reading, taken from the conclusion of John s Gospel, the author tells us that he has chosen to record these events so that you may come to believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that through this belief you may have life in his name (20:31). The letter of John echoes this idea by saying that everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is begotten by God (5:1) Our reading from the Acts of the Apostles for this Second Sunday of Easter shows us exactly what it looks like when believers are born again through faith. 4 LUMEN CHRISTI CATHOLIC COMMUNITY Do it. Justice Discover Your Inner Disciple LC Justice Volunteering with Neighborhood House Meet Representatives April 14/15 after Masses Have you been thinking about enriching personal discipleship as you live out the Mission of Lumen Christi Catholic Community by answering the call to be the Light of Christ in the world?" One way you might do so is to become a Neighborhood House volunteer. Tracing a history that began in 1897, Neighborhood House now serves more than 14,000 people throughout St. Paul as it seeks to instill a sense of "hope, opportunity and dignity for all." How can volunteer service for Neighborhood House enhance personal discipleship in Christ? Stay for several minutes after Mass next week to visit with Vanessa Edwards, Volunteer Engagement Manager for Neighborhood House, or with Sarah Berger, Director of Development and Communications, to discover more. Vanessa will meet interested parishioners at 5:30 on Saturday, April 14, in the First Floor Conference Room. Sarah will meet interested parishioners at 9:30 and 11:30 on Sunday, April 15. Both will offer a brief outline of volunteering opportunities at NH and respond to your questions. Pick up coffee, juice and doughnuts in the Community Room and join us in the Conference Room. This should be your prophetic witness. You have chosen not to flee the world out of fear, as some might think, but to remain in the world, while not being of the world. Although you live apart from the world, through the signs of your belonging to Christ, you tirelessly intercede for mankind, presenting to the Lord its fears and hopes, its joys and sufferings." -- Apostolic Constitution, Vultum Dei quaerere, "Seeking the face of God," July 22, 2016 Building a Better Future Together Currently Enrolling!
