Everyone is invited to drop in during those times. This list is located on the bulletin board just outside the chapel. The chapel will be closed on holiday Mondays including Easter Monday. Everyone is always welcome to pray in the main church near the tabernacle. Sr. Lynore Accepts a New Position Starting in June Sister Lynore has shared with us that she will be leaving her position here at the parish in order to accept the Religious Fund for Retirement position in the Archdiocese. The RFR position is directed by the Delegate for Religious, who is Sister Carolyn Puccio, CSJ. Sister Lynore has been with us for the past six years, and is the first director of worship we ve had at Lumen Christi. Her farewell weekend will be June We hope to have the worship director position filled by early this summer. We wish Sister Lynore all the best in this new adventure and are grateful to her for her tireless work on behalf of our parish. Please pray for Cecilia Asleson who died recently. May she rest in peace with our risen Savior. Stations of the Cross Friday at 5:30 pm We have added a social justice reflection for each station from the Maryknoll Sisters which helps us to pray for the suffering in our world. The entire Stations last about half an hour. Global Solidarity Collection Our struggling brothers and sisters in Africa, Latin America, Central and Eastern Europe, and all those who receive much needed aid through Catholic Relief Services thank you for your support and generosity. Create in me a clean heart, O God.

3 LUMEN CHRISTI CATHOLIC COMMUNITY Preparing for Holy Week Palm Sunday Procession On Palm Sunday, you are invited to walk in procession throughout church, in remembrance of Jesus' solemn entry into Jerusalem. This year, we will meet under the red fabric arch in the Tabernacle Chapel, and begin the procession from there. Because we need all the aisles for the procession, church doors will be closed when the procession begins; latecomers will be asked to wait in the Gathering Area or, if you come into church after Mass begins, you will be automatically included in the procession! We hope to see you in the Tabernacle Chapel before Mass, and we welcome all ages to participate in this solemn walk at the beginning of Holy Week. Holy Thursday Foot Washing Ritual March 29, during the 7:00 pm Mass To participate in this simple ritual is to see one another as individual human beings, with whom we share the dignity of being made in the image of God. In having your feet washed by Father Paul, you participate in Jesus own example of service. Children, youth and adults have participated in the past all are welcome to do so again this year. To participate, call or sign up in the parish office and Sister Lynore will get back to you with more information. Thank you! Good Friday Veneration of the Cross As we have done at the 3:00 pm service the past few years, the procession to venerate the cross will be offered at three sections of church: the cross will first be held at the sacristy aisle, and when everyone from that section of church has venerated the cross, it will then be carried to the Tabernacle-side aisle, and finally, brought to the middle aisle for veneration. Please walk down each section of the aisles (double file) to venerate the cross, as you do for the communion procession. Did You Know? Good Question! The white sanctuary candle lit during the Tenebrae service Good Friday evening is re-lit from the Easter fire Holy Saturday night; from that flame we light the new Paschal Candle, the assembly's Vigil tapers, the altar candles and the vigil lights. The white candle then remains lit in the Sanctuary lamp in the Tabernacle Chapel throughout Easter Week. There are many similar connections between the Treasures of the Holy Week services--by attending all of the services, you will experience the inter-relatedness between the cross, the water, the oils, the catechumens, the decor, the candles and the rituals. This year, do consider participating in the Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter Vigil services--and enjoy finding many Sacred Treasure connections! Preparing for Holy Week Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults Please continue to pray for those preparing for initiation sacraments at Easter Vigil and during the Easter season: Duane Nomeland who will be baptized, confirmed and celebrate first Eucharist at Vigil. Oliver Heitzman, Emily Tong-Lakatos and Taylor Millikan who will be received into full communion and confirmed. Lee-za Matthews who will be confirmed and celebrate first Eucharist. Collections Holy Thursday Collection The monetary collection on Holy Thursday follows the foot washing ritual and presentation of holy oils, and is another way to participate in service to our neighbor in need. The collection will be taken in support of our Families Moving Forward fund. Thank you for your generosity. Pontifical Good Friday Collection Pope Francis has asked all parishes around the world to take up a collection for Christians in the Holy Land on March 30. Your financial gifts enable the Franciscan community to provide education, formation, build homes for the poor and orphans, support senior care facilities and preserve Christians shrines all in the Holy Land. And most important during this time of war and unrest, this collection will provide humanitarian aid to refugees. On March 30, please stand in solidarity with the Church in the Holy Land and help our Franciscan brothers and sisters. If you would like to make a donation for Easter memorial flowers, please fill out the form below, put it in an envelope marked Easter Environment and drop it in the collection basket or mail it to the parish office. IMMIGRATION SPOTLIGHT: Lebo Moore Lebo Moore, daughter of parishioners Mary Wagner and Bill Moore, is proud of the Minnesota Food Association (MFA) for which she works. She s proud not just because of the organic and sustainable agriculture that the organization fosters, but also because of the many people, especially new immigrants, whom she teaches how to farm as the earth is treated respectfully. For many of her clients, she is an answer to how to return to working the land as they had in their native countries and to spend glorious days in the sun growing produce for CSAs (community supported agriculture), Farmers Markets and wholesale markets such as schools, restaurants and grocery stores, all while learning how to become a small business person. The stories of these new farmers span an array of countries: Laos, Mexico, Guatemala, Somalia, Bhutan, Nepal and the list goes on. While Lebo said that her clients are never queried about their immigration status, she knows that some are frightened by what they see happening to some they know whom immigration authorities have picked up. They often are in a position of uncertainty because of language differences or lack of awareness of rights and resources. To read some of these immigrants stories and their experience working the earth here in Minnesota, go to Thanks for sharing your story, Lebo. Morning Book Group TURNING POINTS: Discovering Meaning & Passion in Turbulent Times Book group discussion and presentation: Thursday, March 22, 9:00 am, First Fl. Conf. Room In response to popular demand a Morning Book Group with an added bonus: The book authors are local and will appear at book group meetings. The first book, TURN- ING POINTS: Discovering Meaning and Passion in Turbulent Times, is an anthology by the Peace and Social Justice Writers Group at The Loft in Minneapolis. The essayists look back on the critical moments in their lives and share their experiences and insights. Books are available after daily mass and some weekends and on Amazon. Local authors and presenters: Jackie Mosio, Roy Wolff and Juan Linares.

5 LUMEN CHRISTI CATHOLIC COMMUNITY Council Connections The Discipleship and Parish Life Ministry Council met with the Finance Council and discussed helping ministry leaders engage more in understanding the budgets they work with, and also the types of need we have in the parish for supporting volunteer opportunities. Those opportunities include outreach into our community, and the quality of the experience of LCCC volunteer ministers. DPL has taken steps to grow and deepen volunteer ministry experiences in conjunction with Neighborhood House staff. There will be opportunities for LCCC parishioners in the near future. Faith Formation Ministry Council looks forward to the progress of the volunteer database committee. Meanwhile, we continue to prepare our survey for soliciting feedback and ideas to make our Sacramental Preparation more welcoming. We also look forward to our collaboration with the Worship Ministry Council with ways we can make the Mass more welcoming. School Ministry Council The Highland Catholic Home and School is sponsored a Safety Seminar for parents and guardians Febraur 22 at 7:00 pm in the cafeteria. Worship Ministry Council met with the School Ministry Council and clarified the opportunities for children and families to participate in weekend liturgies. They completed a short Worship Ministry Council Survey and actions were taken. Pastoral Care Anointing of the Sick and Dying "By the sacred anointing of the sick and the prayer of the priests the whole Church commends those who are ill to the suffering and glorified Lord, that he may raise them up and save them. And indeed she exhorts them to contribute to the good of the People of God by freely uniting themselves to the Passion and death of Christ." CCC, no The second Sacrament of Healing is the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick. This sacrament unites the sick to the sufferings of Christ and gives them the strength of Christ to endure their sufferings but also to transform their sufferings into redemptive suffering. For those who are dying, this sacrament prepares them for their journey to Heaven. U. S. Catholic Catechism for Adults Chp. 19 How did Jesus show his care for the whole person body, soul, mind and heart? How does uniting my suffering with the Passion, Death and Resurrection of Jesus transform its meaning? Discover Your Inner Disciple 5th Sunday of Lent When Jesus heard about the illness of his friend, Lazarus, he responded, This does not lead to death; rather it is for God s glory, so that the Son of God may be glorified through it. Every aspect of our lives our sufferings as well as our gifts can, if surrendered to Christ, lead to blessing for ourselves and others. Save by God s Love Because the people broke the old covenant, God promised a new covenant, not in the blood of oxen and other animals, but in the blood of the Son, Jesus Christ. This new covenant, foreseen from afar by Jeremiah and the prophets, was not to be engraved on stone, or written on paper, but carved on our hearts, so that we might know God intimately. Not by keeping many laws are we to be saved, but by the love of God, living and real in our hearts through the sacrifice of Christ. Our Eucharist is the pledge of that indwelling of Christ, and of our response of praise and thanksgiving to God for the mercy, love, and kindness shown to us in forgiving our sins and cleansing our hearts of everything evil. God issues this invitation to intimacy by offering us the chance to have our sufferings transformed into the perfect love of the Savior, who first loved us.copyright J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.
