2 Twenty-Third Sunday in Ordinary Time Parish News Little Rock Bible Study will begin this fall on Tuesday, September 22 in Room 103 at 1:00 pm with emphasis on the Book of Hebrews. This parish networking group meets twice a month at the following locations: First Wednesday of each month at Holy Martyrs Church, Martyrs Hall (off the back parking lot) Third Tuesday of each month at Knights of Columbus Hall 131 North East Street, Medina First-time attendees should plan to come to a short orientation session at 6:30 p.m. The regular group meetings begin at 7 p.m. Did You Know? Families Anonymous is a Twelve Step Program for people concerned about drug/alcohol abuse and behavioral problems of a relative or friend. Completely anonymous, nonprofessional and nonreligious. No dues or fees. Not connected with a hospital, agency, treatment facility, religious institution, or political entity. Families Anonymous meets at Holy Martyrs in Martyrs Hall every Thursday at 7:30 pm. For free help call will be available. If so, Holy Martyrs now offers a special process that is tailored for those who are already well-formed in the Christian faith but who would like to become Catholic. We call this new process FOCUS and we offer it once a year. Our intention with FOCUS is to offer it at a time that works for participants, including those who may have travel commitments with their jobs. We plan to begin our next offering of FOCUS this September and would love to hear from you now if you have an interest in participating so we can determine the best day and time for all involved. 4 Twenty-Third Sunday in Ordinary Time Parish School of Religion Got Religion? Part VII Best Health Care Plan Ever! We all look for the best, most economical and comprehensive health care plan for ourselves and our families. Actually, if we are practicing our religion, we are already significantly reducing the risk of mortality for ourselves and our loved ones by encouraging a support network of family and friends that helps to maintain a pattern of consistent care. Regardless of race, gender, education, or even health history, those who practice their religion live an average of seven years longer than those who do not. Among African-Americans, the increase is double that! According to a Johns Hopkins study of public school students in Baltimore, parents who model their faith significantly affect the personal health of their children. Adolescents whose mothers attended weekly religious services displayed better health, greater problem-solving skills, and overall satisfaction with their lives. In the words of Pope Francis, Family is where we daily experience our own limits and those of others, the problems great and small entailed in living peacefully with others. No family is perfect, but we shouldn t be afraid of our imperfections. They shouldn t affect our emotional or physical health. Rather, we keep loving one another despite our imperfections. Our faith helps us do this. Attending Mass as a family, training our children in faith and sound values, and teaching them to contribute to our society keeps our family healthy in mind, body, and spirit. * Talk about a comprehensive health plan! *Message for the World Communications Day, January 23, 2015 Johns Hopkins University, National Survey of Youth and Religion-Lilly Foundation, Religion in America-Gallop Bishop Gries will celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation on Sunday, October 18 at 2:00 p.m. This Mass will fulfill your Sunday commitment. Practice for Confirmation is Sunday, October 11 at 12:45 in Martyrs Hall for the candidate and their sponsor. Ms. Musal will address overall wellness and the seven root sources that lead to illness. RACHEL HEERS, WHNP-BC, Advanced Practice Nurse Coordinator, Cleveland Clinic Regional OB/GYN. Ms. Heers will focus on GYN issues, including screening guidelines and recommendations. BRITTANY PALISWAT, CFLE, Community Education and Outreach Manager for Summit and Medina Counties Battered Women s Shelter and Rape Crisis Center. Ms. Paliswat will discuss services provided by the agency, and present an overview of domestic violence and its effects on women and children.
