4 Bishop Daniel s Installation Mass Taize at Villa Maria Del Mar Guests from St. Joseph s were able to meet and have their picture taken with our new Bishop. The event was reported to be special in all ways. The Mass was exquisite, and the reception afterward was a feast for all. The Sisters of the Holy Names at Villa Maria del Mar invite you to an evening of prayer on Thursday, February 14th, from 7:00 to 8:00pm. This hour-long Taize (contemplative) style of prayer includes chants, scripture and time for quiet reflection. Young Ladies Institute Spring Rummage Sale Come and get your bargains at the YLI Rummage Sale on Saturday and Sunday, March 2nd and 3rd. Sale Times: Sat. 8:30-3:30 and Sun. 8:30 1:00 ($5 a bag on Sun.) at Our Lady Star of the Sea Hall, 515 Frederick St. Santa Cruz. For Information call St. Joseph s Homeless Outreach Ministry St. Joseph s Outreach Ministry to the Homeless is once again this year teaming up with The Association of Faith Communities to serve homeless men, women and families at the winter shelter. Last year 40 members of St. Joseph s community volunteered for two weeks at the Winter shelter and at The Faith Community Shelter at Resurrection Church. Everyone found this experience very worthwhile and rewarding. This Lenten season we will volunteer at the Winter Shelter located at the VFW Hall. We are asking for volunteers to serve dinner to our homeless guests, March 17th through the 23, 5:30-7:30. No cooking is needed. If you are looking for a Lenten Sacrifice and something GOOD to do for the least of our brothers and sisters please call St Joseph s office to sign up for one night. We look forward to serving with you in this very special ministry. I was hungry and you gave me food. 6 Celebrating one year of our Hispanic Ministry Parroquia de San José en Capitola Ministerio Hispano Hoy es un día muy especial en la Familia de San José en Capitola, celebramos nuestro primer año con la Misa en español, por eso damos gracias a Dios, ya que por su misericordia podemos celebrar nuestra fe en esta hermosa comunidad, que nos ha acogido con mucho amor. Esto no podría haber sido posible sin el apoyo y la generosidad del Padre Wayne Dawson, nuestro Pastor y la disponibilidad incondicional del Padre Rudy Ruiz, quienes siempre han estado atentos a nuestras necesidades. No podemos dejar de mencionar el gran apoyo de tanta gente que ha ofrecido su tiempo, amor y esfuerzo para que este día sea hoy una realidad, especialmente a Mily Alcantar y su Coro Amor de Dios, a cada uno de los ministros de Eucaristía y Lectores, Ujieres, Sacristana, Servidores del Altar y por último, pero no menos importante, ustedes, comunidad hispana que nos alegra con su participación en cada misa. This could not have been possible without the support and generosity of Father Wayne Dawson, our Pastor and the unconditional availability of Father Rudy Ruiz, who have always been attentive to our needs. We can not fail to mention the great support of so many people who have offered their time, love and effort to make this day a reality today, especially Mily Alcantar and her Choir Love of God, to each of the Eucharistic ministers and Readers, Ushers, Sacristans, Altar servers and last but not least, you, the Hispanic community that makes us happy with your participation in each Mass. As we begin this campaign, please read about the appeal: The Annual Ministry Appeal has been at the heart of ministry in the Diocese of Monterey for almost 50 years. Thousands of families across our four counties have come together each year to generously empower their parish s contribution and to support the work of the Church - building Bridges of Hope to connect with those in need, and keeping our Catholic faith alive and flourishing in our homes, parishes, schools, and local communities. Today while the mission of the AMA remains the same, let us embrace a new awareness of stewardship of the Church. Our Church is found in the many ways we give witness to the loving presence of Christ in a suffering world and the offer of hope. I invite you to reflect on your role in the building of the Bridges of Hope and ask you to prayerfully consider participating in the 2019 Annual Ministry Appeal.
