2 Perseverance and Mercy Though Jesus told today s parable more than two thousand years ago, human nature hasn t changed: we recognize both characters instantly. The merciless judge represents the corruption that has short-circuited justice throughout history; the distraught widow, society s perennially powerless, marginalized to what Pope Francis calls the peripheries by those who wield power but lack the mercy that could transfigure society with compassion. To confront such reality, Jesus bids us, pray always without becoming weary (Luke 18:1). Prayer opens our eyes to see others from Jesus perspective, and leads us to work for justice by coming to the aid of others with what Pope Francis extols as a higher standard, mercy. Thus, when Jesus asks, Will not God secure the rights of [God s] chosen ones? Will [God] be slow to answer? (18:7). We respond by making God s liberating work for others our own. [W]hen the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth? (18:8). Yes, we respond and mercy! Peter Scagnelli, Copyright J. S. Paluch Co., Inc. 3 Wedding Banns III Brooke Therese Snider and Austin Higgins RCIA/Adult Confirmation Classes Who is RCIA for? The Catholic Church designed the RCIA process for everyone adult or child over seven years of age who is: yearning for something more in their lives; interested in learning more about the Catholic Church; unbaptized and recognizing the need for spirituality in their lives; or baptized in the Catholic Church or another Christian faith tradition but never received any formal religious training. This includes any Catholic adults who were never confirmed and would like to receive that sacrament. How long does it take? The Rite of Christian Initiation process ministers individually to those seeking membership. Some people need more time than others to prepare for a lifetime commitment. The sacraments of initiation are best celebrated with the entire faith community at the Easter Vigil. Please contact Deacon Rich with any questions at Classes begin October 24th from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the Conference room (Office hallway). Classes will be held every two weeks through April 3rd. High School Youth Save the Date BEHOLD, Friday November 11 th 7-9pm Nic Frank will be our special guest for a Friday Night Behold. Nic is a regular speaker at Steubenville Youth Conferences across the country as well as a Youth Minister. Worship, Eucharistic Adoration and the Sacrament of Reconciliation Right to Life During the month of October the opportunity to spiritually adopt a newly conceived child who could be at risk for miscarriage, stillbirth or medical abortion. You will be given a pledge card as a reminder to pray regularly for your adopted child and his parents for the next 9 months. Pledge cards are available at the Information Desk. October Rosary Devotion ~ Every Tuesday 7pm The month of October is dedicated to the Holy Rosary and our beautiful Blessed Mother. Please join us every Tuesday in October to pray the rosary at Eucharist Holy Hour beginning at 7:00 p.m. "The Rosary is a long chain that links heaven and earth. One end of it is in our hands and the other end is in the hands of the holy Virgin...The Rosary prayer rises like incense to the feet of the Almighty. Mary responds at once like a beneficial dew, bringing new life to human hearts." ~ St. Therese of Lisieux Ready for Football? The Knights of Columbus and the Ladies Auxiliary are having a tailgate party for the Packers vs. Cowboys on October 16th in the multi-purpose room. The game starts at 3:25 pm. Men and women 18 and over are all welcome. Come see what we're all about and enjoy the game. Hope to see you there. P lease teach your kids the truth about Halloween. The word translates from the Eve (night) of All Holies because it precedes the Catholic feasts of All Saints Day (Nov. 1 st ) and All Souls Day (Nov. 2). Jesus conquered sin and death for us so there is nothing for us to be afraid of. We can remember those who have died with a sincere hope in the resurrection. When our kids choose to where costumes, even spooky ones, they should be reminded that the reason we celebrate anything is always because of our great hope in Jesus Christ and His saving power. Happy Halloween early! God did not give us a Spirit that makes us afraid; He gave us a Spirit of power, and love, and self-control. 2 Timothy 1:7 Our sincere thanks to our Parish Family for your thoughts, prayers and love given during our time of sadness. A special thank you for the Masses that are being offered for my mother, Dorothy Gruenberg Patricia & Jim Schmitz Baptism ~ Congratulations! If you plan to have your child baptized at St. Anne, please call the Parish Office to register for a Baptism Reflection (preparation).
