As we did sixteen years ago, let us come together to ask God s Spirit to continue to bless and nourish us. As tongues of fire descended upon the Apostles over two thousand years ago may this same light fill our lives with the gifts of the Holy Spirit. May each of us carry this light with a vision of doing God s will. Let us reflect in all we do the loving presence of God in the world today. ST. ANTHONY NOVENA The 13-week novena to St. Anthony continues this Tuesday, June 2, 2009 (week 12). The novena prayers will be recited after the 9:30 AM Mass in St. Mary s Church and at 6:30 PM (novena prayers only) at Mother of Sorrows Chapel. JOHN OF GOD SCHOOL NEWS EIGHTH GRADE GRADUATION Our 8th grade students are being recognized at the 4:30 PM Mass this Saturday, May 30, when they will receive their 8th grade diplomas from St. John of God School. This annual event features food, a flea market, crafters, vendors, a bake sale, a book sale, children s entertainment and more. Lou Vallone On behalf of St. John of God School and Parish, I am happy to announce that Sister Anna Marie Gaglia is no longer Interim Principal of our school, but is now the Principal of St. John of God School. May she be with us for a long, long time. Read the following press release on Sister Anna Marie s appointment. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - May 26, 2009 Sister Anna Marie Gaglia, who has served as interim principal at St. John of God in McKees Rocks since April 2008, has been appointed principal of the Catholic elementary school. The Rev. Louis Vallone, pastor of St. John of God, made the announcement on May 26, God always provides: He provided Sister Anna Marie to us in a time of need for the short term, and now has granted us her ministry for the long run. We are grateful to the Sisters of St. Joseph and to Sister Anna Marie for their traditional boundless generosity in supporting Catholic education. Quigley Catholic High School as Director of Guidance and Principal and worked at the Irene Stacey Mental Health Center in Butler County. Sister Anna Marie was instrumental in the development of the Sisters of St. Joseph Peace Camp that brings young children and high school and college students together to promote and teach peaceful alternatives to resolving conflict and violence. Peace Camp 2009 will be offered at the Father Ryan Arts Center July 27 to 31. Sister Anna Marie has earned undergraduate degree in history and education from Carlow University and a master s degree in Counselor Education from the University of Pittsburgh as well as graduate training in Organizational Development at the Gestalt Institute of Cleveland. St. John of God School, which offers a preschool program for 4-year-olds and full-day kindergarten through 8 th grade, welcomes new students and families for the school year. Sister Anna Marie accepted the position of interim principal following the unexpected death of Sister Margaret Berry, who had served as principal since Both sisters are members of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Baden. Sister Anna Marie previously served as Congregational Moderator of the Sisters of St. Joseph Leadership Team where she served for 15 years. She has extensive experience in education, school counseling, organizational leadership and strategic planning, particularly with non-profit and religious organizations.
