4 RCIA/Adult Education Our Lady of Loretto RCIA Program meets at 7:30 p.m. each Wednesday, upstairs in the Convent. The topic on October 24 is: The Old Testament: God s Covenants with Israel. All adults are invited to participate. 5 Dear Friends, I was never so proud of OLL as I was last weekend for two very different reasons. 1. Last Saturday s All You Can Eat Crab Dinner was a huge success. The hall was packed with people, but what caught my eye was all the hard work the Knights of Columbus put in to make this dinner such a success. Thank you, Knights, for what you do best, and that is to blend spiritual with the corporal in furthering the message of Jesus Christ. Another big shout out to our Eighth Graders who served the dinner. You, along with your teacher, made the evening for me. Thank you for helping out. I got a lot of nice comments about you 2. I would like to thank Barbara and Cathy from the Fatima Prayer Group for hosting the 24 Hour Adoration in the Chapel last Friday and Saturday. My fear was that Jesus would be left alone during the wee hours of the morning. Thankfully, those fears were misplaced. I got up early Saturday morning, around 4am, and sure enough, 5 adorers were in the Chapel with another 3 adorers leaving. I also went to the Rosary Rally in Miwok Park last Saturday afternoon, and was impressed by the number of people praying all 15 decades of the Rosary publicly. Thank you everyone for making our Fatima Day such a huge success. One last note: next Sunday, at our 10am Mass, is our annual Halloween Mass. I invite all the children of our parish to come in costume, minus swords or guns, to receive candy after Mass. We will also be having a Costume Contest after Mass with the best boy and girl costumes each getting a one-pound box of See s Candy. I d love to see next Sunday s 10am Mass filled with kids in their Halloween costumes. Don t forget these other dates as well: Thursday, November 1st: all Saint s Day, a Holy Day of Obligation. Masses at 9am (School attending), 6pm and 7:30pm in Spanish. Friday, November 2nd: All Souls Day. Masses at 9am and 7:30pm in Spanish. Be sure to get your All Souls Envelopes in so that the names of your loved ones can be put on our altar during the month of November. Generalmente decimos esto cuando alguien nos da detalles sobre su vida que no deseamos o no necesitamos saber. Hoy, cuando Santiago y Juan le hacen una pregunta simple a Jesús y le piden ocupar lugares de honor en el Reino, Jesús podría haberles dado una respuesta simple. Pero, como suele hacerlo, responde una pregunta con otra pregunta, en este caso se trata de beber el cáliz del sufrimiento. Luego, cuando los demás se indignan contra el atrevido pedido de Santiago y Juan, Jesús les dice algo que puede haber sido "demasiada información" para el gusto de los seguidores, quienes sólo estaban interesados en alcanzar la gloria. Pero esta información, aunque algunas veces pueda parecer "demasiada" para nuestro gusto, es vital para nuestras vidas como discípulos. Hoy en Isaías, en hebreos y en Marcos, conocemos esta información: sólo mediante el sufrimiento, la debilidad y el servicio generoso a los demás comprenderemos el Reino. Ésta es la información que necesitamos para encontrar nuestro lugar y poder ser honrados en el Reino de Dios. LECTURAS DE HOY Primera lectura -- Ya que él ofreció su vida como sacrificio por el pecado (Isaías 53:10-11). Salmo -- Que tu misericordia, Señor, venga sobre nosotros, como lo esperamos (Salmo 33 [32]). Segunda lectura -- Tenemos un sumo sacerdote que ha sido probado en todo, a excepción del pecado (Hebreos 4:14-16). Evangelio --El Hijo del Hombre ha venido a servir y a dar su vida como rescate por una muchedumbre (Marcos 10:35-45 [42-45]). 7 Queridos amigos, Nunca estuve tan orgulloso de OLL como lo estaba el fin de semana pasado por dos razones muy diferentes. La cena del último sábado "Todo lo que puedas comer de cangrejo" fue un gran éxito. El salón estaba lleno de gente, pero lo que me llamó la atención fue todo el trabajo arduo que los Caballeros de Colón hicieron para que esta cena fuera todo un éxito. Gracias, Caballeros, por lo que hacen mejor, y eso es mezclar lo espiritual con lo corporal para promover el mensaje de Jesucristo. Otro gran saludo a nuestros estudiantes de octavo grado que sirvieron la cena. Tú, junto con tu maestro, hiciste la tarde para mí. Gracias por ayudar Tengo muchos buenos comentarios sobre ti. Me gustaría agradecer a Barbara y Cathy del Grupo de Oración de Fátima por haber organizado la Adoración las 24 horas en la Capilla el viernes y el sábado. Mi temor era que Jesús se quedara solo durante las primeras horas de la mañana. Afortunadamente, esos temores estaban fuera de lugar. Me levanté temprano el sábado por la mañana, alrededor de las 4 de la mañana y, efectivamente, 5 adoradores estaban en la Capilla con otros 3 adoradores saliendo. También fui al Rally del Rosario en Miwok Park la tarde del sábado pasado, y me impresionó la cantidad de personas que rezaban públicamente en las 15 décadas del Rosario. Gracias a todos por hacer de nuestro Día de Fátima un gran éxito. Una última nota: el próximo domingo, en nuestra Misa de las 10am, será nuestra misa anual de Halloween. Invito a todos los niños de nuestra parroquia a que vengan disfrazados, menos espadas o pistolas, para recibir dulces después de la misa. También tendremos un Concurso de disfraces después de la misa con los mejores disfraces de niños y niñas, cada uno recibe una caja de See's Candy de una libra. Me encantaría ver la misa de las 10 am del próximo domingo llena de niños con sus disfraces de Halloween. No olvides estas otras fechas también: Jueves, 1 de noviembre: todo el Día de los Santos, un día santo de obligación. Misas a las 9am (Asistencia escolar), 6pm y 7:30 pm en español. Viernes 2 de noviembre: Día de los Difuntos. Misas a las 9am y 7:30 pm en español. Asegúrese de obtener sus sobres de All Souls para que los nombres de sus seres queridos se puedan colocar en nuestro altar durante el mes de noviembre.
