The Eucharist: Being Christ To One Another This will be the theme for our Parish Lenten Retreat with Fr. Ricky Manalo, CSP. If you have any questions please call the Rectory office for assistance. FAST AND ABSTINENCE Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are obligatory days of fasting and abstinence for Catholics. In addition, Fridays during Lent are obligatory days of abstinence. For members of the Latin Catholic Church, the norms on fasting are obligatory from age 18 until age 59. When fasting, a person is permitted to eat one full meal. Two smaller meals may also be taken, but not to equal a full meal. The norms concerning abstinence from meat are binding upon members of the Latin Catholic Church from age 14 onwards. (Taken from the USCCB website)

3 First Sunday of Lent March 9, 2014 THIS WEEK IN CONFIRMATION and YOUTH MINISTRY: Monday, March 10: Middle School classes meet in the convent from 7-8:30 Thursday, March 13: OLL Youth Ministry! Join us in the Convent from 7-8:30pm. All high school aged teens are welcome to attend. Fri/Sat, March 21-22: Confirmation Retreat. MANDATO- RY. Thank you to all who supported our OLL YM Bake Sale last weekend. Your generous support brought in over $500! These funds allow our teens opportunities to grow in their faith and friendship with each other through events such as our Paul J. Kim concert and our trip to Steubenville San Diego, as well as our weekly gatherings and outreaches. Know of our prayers of thanksgiving for you all! On Monday, March 17th (St. Patrick's Day) the Knights of Columbus will have "March Madness Night" featuring Jim Brovelli. Jim has coached in the NBA and is the former head coach at both the University of San Francisco and the University of San Diego. If you have questions about college basketball while filling in your brackets, or want to know how recruiting works, this is the night for you. Stadium style snacks, hot dogs and nachos will be available, this is a family event. Admission is free. It is possible the Knights may be having a March Madness contest. Carmelite Monastery 530 Blackstone Drive San Rafael, CA The Discalced Carmelite Nuns cordially invite you to attend their annual Novena to St. Joseph from March 11th to the 19th, with Mass and Vespers, at 4:00pm each afternoon, in the Monastery Chapel. This year s Novena will be conducted by Rev. Bernard Perkins, OCD. Fr. Bernard is a Discalced Carmelite Friar from the California/Arizona Province. He is also Parochial Vicar for St. Terese Church in Alhambra, California. Father is well known for his wonderful Retreats, Novenas, and Conferences. Thank you very much and God bless you!
