But why did the assembly react so aggressively against him? The villagers were enraged because he refused to perform miracles in his hometown to satisfy their curiosity. They expected the Son of God but all they got was the son of the carpenter. The truth of the matter is that Jesus did not save us by working miracles but by proclaiming the Gospel and by giving his life for us. The miracle is his Word, that is what works the miracles and transforms people and will create a new world order. Our motivation to go to Church is to listen to the Word of our Lord, not to get something from Jesus like a miracle. Church is not a miracle market but a place to listen the Word, not only with our ears but also with our hearts, and more importantly to respond to the Word with faith. May the Word of life find a home in our hearts and lead us all to do the will of God in this world. Lord Jesus you have the Words of everlasting life. Come to us and dwell with us. Your presence in our midst finds a warm welcome. YOUTH CORNER One of the big questions that many of us ask ourselves at some point or another is why am I here? Along that same line we may ask what is my purpose? For some of us the answer seems very clear and our lives are headed on a very clear path. For others, they may feel like they are swerving left and right on a very crooked path through life that leads them from one uncertainty to another and they sometimes feel off balance. Our First Reading at Mass this weekend from the book of Jeremiah tells us Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I dedicated you, a prophet to the nations I appointed you. This reading gives us a lot to think about. God doesn t tell Jeremiah every little detail about the life he will live, but he does tell him that he has a purpose for him. For him, it was to be a prophet to the nations. In a way, that is also what we are called to be a prophet. We are all called to be people who proclaim the Good News to others in the midst of whatever life throws at us. I have friends who are here in Ithaca for work but never thought they would be here. At times things aren't clear to them as to why God placed them here in Ithaca, NY. I can tell you for certain why God has placed them here. God has placed them here, not for work, but for the people that they interact with each day. They have impacted the lives of so many already and made them better people and better Christians as a result. (YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE) So, be open to wherever God is leading you and with whatever God is asking of you. The impact you have on others will be greater than you will ever know. AROUND THE AREA/DIOCESE The Diocesan Women s Conference is on March 9. The Rochester Catholic Women s Conference will be held at the Aquinas Institute in Rochester on March 9, This year s theme: Full of Grace, invites us to reflect on Mary s role in the Church, in history and in our personal lives. Our speakers are Karlo Broussard and Sr. Anne Catherine Burleigh, OP. Mail-in registration is $50, and must be postmarked by February 22. Online registration is $53 and closes March 1. Please visit the website at Rochestercwc.org/ for details or contact Liz Burns at ecab929@gmail.com for more information. NOW IS THE ACCEPTABLE TIME! From March 6th through April 14th, Ithaca 40 Days for Life, a peaceful, prayerful campaign will take place right here in Ithaca. Join us in peaceful vigil along the public right-of-way across from Planned Parenthood, 620 W. Seneca St., daily from 7am-7pm. We hope you will conside4r a 1 or 2 hr prayer vigil per week with your family, a friend, or group. Come and pray together!
