7 The passage from Matthew (18:15 20) is concerned with church discipline in a time of conflict. The focus, however, is not on punishment or blame, but on listening and talking through what has divided or offended so that forgiveness and reconciliation may be accomplished. Does your church have a prescribed way of working through difficulty and division? Has there been a time in your congregation s life or in your own life when conflict or an offense caused breaks in relationships? How might this reading from Matthew have helped that situation? How does the commandment to love God and to love our neighbor as ourselves inform our handling of disagreement and division? HOUSEHOLD PRAYERS FOR THIS WEEK Morning: O God of this and every morning, as I begin this day, call my name; as I step into this day, guide my feet; as I live this day, care for those I love; as I learn this day, teach me your ways. 8 CHURCH NOTES TODAY IS THE SECOND SUNDAY OF RLPC S SEASON OF PEACE that continues through Sunday, October 22. Worship each Sunday will focus on different aspects of the peace the passes understanding that is available to us as we follow Jesus Christ. Our worship on those dates will center on these scripture passages: October 15, Matthew 18:21-35, Passing the Peace ; October 22, Philippians 4:1-9, A Simple Truth. FOR THOSE OF YOU WISHING TO SUPPORT RLPC FINANCIALLY offering plates are in the rear of the sanctuary, by the doors. Please place your gifts, tithes and offerings in one of the plates either before or after the service. A prayer of dedication will be in included in the Prayers of the People. IF YOU ARE A VISITOR and wish to bless our congregation s ministry financially, please place your gift in one of the offering plates. We are very thankful for your support of RLPC s mission. THIS MORNING THE HANDWORK FOR MISSION GROUP IS PRESENTING 83 items for dedication. There are 56 hug rugs, 10 prayer shawls, 8 lap robes, and 9 scarves. These will be distributed to South Charleston Police, Veterans, Eastbrook Center, Valley Center, Kanawha Place, and Cedar Ridge Center. We continue to meet each Thursday morning at 10:00 a.m. Won't you join us? If you would like to knit, crochet, or quilt at home, we can provide the items needed. Don't know how, we are willing to instruct. If you know of anyone who would benefit from one of these items, please let us know by contacting the church office. POTLUCK LUNCH TODAY following worship in the parlor. Everyone is welcome! Didn t bring a covered dish, salad or dessert? Not to worry - there will be plenty to go around. ONCE AGAIN WE ARE PARTNERING KAIROS PRISON MINISTRY INTERENATIONAL. This ministry helps develop Christian communities inside prisons and reaches out to the spiritual needs of incarcerated men and women. The next Kairos weekend program in WV is Oct 19th thru the 22nd. Each Kairos volunteer needs to bring 100 dozen baked cookies (not store bought). If you are able to bake one or more dozen cookies, it will help support this weekend ministry activity. An instruction sheet is available on the table next to the Parlor door covering the baking guidelines (what items are and are not allowed by prison regulations), packaging instructions, etc. We need your cookies dropped off at RLPC by noon on Wednesday, October 18. Thank you to Scott Argento, one of the KAIROS volunteers who will spend the 19 th thru the 22 nd at the prison, for including RLPC in this outreach ministry. (Note: he s Benny and Doni Argento s son). Remember Jesus s words in Matthew 25:36: I was in prison and you came to visit me. THE LITURGIST VOLUNTEER FOR NEXT WEEK IS: Margie/Layne Gumowski.
