Sr.Lisa, Sr.Ruth, Sr.Marykutty An information sheet is available in the resource rack at church for those who would like to learn more about the feast day of Mary help of Christians. Pastor s Corner Ascension Sunday, May 16, 2010 Dear Brothers and Sisters, We celebrate this Sunday the ascension of Jesus to heaven where he will be united with his Father. This event in the life of our Lord is very much a part of the Paschal Mystery. As the Divine Word he existed with the Father in the beginning, but in time took our human nature to be with us and to save us. Now that his mission is completed, he sits at the right hand of the Father and reigns with him in glory. He also intercedes for us and sends the Holy Spirit that we may proclaim the Good News to the ends of the earth. May we continue the mission he has entrusted to us. Let me thank Vivian Araujo and the members of the Filipino Catholic Club of for donating the beautiful statue of Saint Damien. May God reward your generosity. God bless you, Fr. Samuel E. Loterte, SSS Mental Health Day Sunday, May 16, is Mental Health Day. If you know someone who has a mental illness, perhaps, you could set aside some time this weekend to be with him or her. Or, if someone is more seriously ill at this time, you might want to give that person s caregiver some relief from his/her responsibility. In any case, all of us can offer a special prayer for all those people who are suffering from a mental illness and their families. Our neighbors dealing with this issue will really appreciate it. Religious Education: Sunday, May 16 th Regular R.E. Class schedule Sunday, May 23 rd Regular R.E. Class schedule this will also be the last day for this scholastic year. Saturday, May 29 th Rehearsal for those receiving 1 st Holy Communion on May 30 th Sunday, May 30 th First Holy Communion 9:00 am Mass Rev. Samuel Loterte, SSS Life goes on On our TV screens, if nowhere else, we have heard and seen the horrors of death and destruction. What to be done? Have we an option beyond that of wringing our hands? Remember we not the Calvary Hill where Mary stood? Remember his chosen friends. How they ran from Himand were yet forgiven. Did he not come to bring Life? And life goes on. And the part for us, involves no more than at second hand, Is to believe. To live the promise He gave His life to bring. To live on in the hope of His Word. 3 Sunday Reflection Feast of the Ascension (C) by Father Greg Friedman, O.F.M. Acts 1:1 11 ; Ps 47:2 3, 6 7, 8 9; Eph 1:17 23 or Heb 9:24 28; 10:19 23, Lk 24:46 53 Father Greg Friedman, O.F.M. A really good storyteller will never tell a story quite the same way twice. Luke is a great storyteller: Today we hear his two versions of the Ascension of Jesus, one from Luke's Gospel, the other from his Acts of the Apostles. As you might expect, the two accounts have some differences. For example, the Gospel's story of the Ascension takes place on Easter night, while in Acts, it is situated 40 days later. This and other differences remind us that these accounts are not strict history, but rather written to teach a spiritual point. Luke locates both accounts in Jerusalem, where Jesus has won victory in his death and resurrection. From there, the Church will spread to the whole world. The Gospel version evokes the past: We hear Jesus explain how it was prophesied that he would suffer. In Acts, his words point to the future, to the commissioning of his apostles as witnesses through the power of the Holy Spirit they will soon receive. We're fortunate to have both versions of this special moment in the life of the Church. We need to remember how the story of Jesus fulfills God's plan and promises. We must also be challenged to witness to Christ, empowered by his Holy Spirit. St. Anthony Messenger Press, on the Web at FranciscanRadio.org. Today, We Receive Jesus! KOA BOWL OFFERING: The people of Malia are wonderfully generous. It is quite obvious that you love your Church. The Finance Committee is very diligent and is making sure that we are good stewards of your gifts to the parish. We will project a budget for the next fiscal year which is based on an average of $1, in the KOA Offering Bowl each weekend. So far this year we are averaging around $1, each weekend. We need to use some of the rent money to pay operational expenses. The ideal would be to use the rent money solely for building repair and maintenance. Either through more parishioners giving or parishioners giving more, we will try to average $1, each weekend starting in July. MAHALO for your generosity. Izabel with her mother and Fr.
