Mail or drop them off at the Elections Office in the old County Building by October 26, Pastor s Corner The Rosary: A Christ-centered Prayer. Fr. Samuel E. Loterte. SSS The Feast dedicated to Our Lady of the Rosary was October 7. In fact the entire month of October is dedicated to encouraging the praying of the rosary and reflecting on the mysteries of the Christian Faith which it memorializes. The Rosary of the Virgin Mary, which gradually took form in the second millennium under the guidance of the Spirit of God, is a prayer loved by countless Saints and encouraged by the Magisterium. Simple yet profound, it still remains, at the dawn of this third millennium, a prayer of great significance, destined to bring forth a harvest of holiness. It blends easily into the spiritual journey of the Christian life, which, after two thousand years, has lost none of the freshness of its beginnings and feels drawn by the Spirit of God to set out into the deep (duc in altum!) in order once more to proclaim, and even cry out, before the world that Jesus Christ is Lord and Saviour, the way, and the truth and the life (Jn 14:6), the goal of human history and the point on which the desires of history and civilization turn. The Rosary, though clearly Marian in character, is at heart a Christocentric prayer. In the sobriety of its elements, it has all the depth of the Gospel message in its entirety, of which it can be said to be a compendium. It is an echo of the prayer of Mary, her perennial Magnificat for the work of the redemptive Incarnation which began in her virginal womb. With the Rosary, the Christian people sits at the school of Mary and is led to contemplate the beauty on the face of Christ and to experience the depths of his love. Through the Rosary the faithful receive abundant grace, as though from the very hands of the Mother of the Redeemer. Pope John Paul II (Rosarium Virginis Mariae, 1, October 16, 2002) Mission Statement: Centered on the Word of God and the Eucharist we gather as a community of disciples of Jesus Christ as we seek fullness of life. Blessed with many cultures and gifted with the Hawaiian spirit of Aloha we pledge to share our heritage and our faith, and commit ourselves to the full development of our people. With Saint Joseph as our patron we offer our gift of self for the greater glory of God. WELCOME TO OUR NEW PARISHIONERS! Joseph Pollard & Marie Aube Welcome Fr. Clifford Barrios 2
3 Reflection Sunday, October 10, 2010 (28th Sunday in Ordinary Time) I need to make a resolution to send thank-you notes. When people do me a favor, I m always very grateful, and I have the best of intentions of sitting down and writing a note when I get home, to say "thanks." And then, something usually distracts me, and before I know it, weeks have gone by, or I see the person and remember that I never did send that note. Annual Wreath Sales! Thank You, Pack 9 by Father Greg Friedman, O.F.M. Today's Gospel ought to give me a renewed incentive to be thankful. In the story, Jesus cures ten lepers; only one returns to give thanks. That one is surprise a Samaritan. Well, the surprise is probably more appropriate for Jesus' original audience than for us: Samaritans and Jews did not get along. When Luke put this story together from his sources, there was much more of a punch. In the following verses, not read in church today, some in his audience ask when the Kingdom will be coming. Jesus tells them they've missed the signs; people like the Samaritan in the story have recognized the Kingdom's presence and given thanks. Luke would have us heed the words of Jesus: The Kingdom is in our midst, but we truly appreciate it only if we walk with Christ in his suffering and death. By embracing his way of the cross, we welcome the Kingdom.
