Today s Daily Prayer This poor widow put in more than all the other contributors. At the time of Jesus, power and status were everything and Jesus particularly targets the scribes and Pharisees. The scribes were experts in the law, judges and lawyers. In many parts of the Roman Empire, Jews lived in self-governing enclaves and the scribes were civil leaders and their knowledge and ability would contribute to the survival and growth of God s people. Jesus does not attack their power or position; he attacks their self-important manner, their pomposity and arrogance. He suggests that they are taking the money in the treasury (which was meant to help the poor) to line their own pockets. Jesus sat down opposite the treasury, and observed how the crowd put money into the treasury. Many rich people put in large sums. A poor widow also came and put in two small coins worth a few cents. Calling his disciples to himself, he said to them, Amen, I say to you, this poor widow put in more than all the other contributors to the treasury. For they have all contributed from their surplus wealth, but she, from her poverty, has contributed all she had, her whole livelihood. This year we are lucky to welcome the Westgate Concert Band to Resurrection who will play Christmas Carols for us to sing along to the classes will be rehearsing over the coming weeks. Watch out for further information about this evening in upcoming newsletters. School Carpark Unfortunately, it seems that when we don t have a notice in the newsletter about the use of the carpark, we start noticing inappropriate behaviour. Please be careful moving about in the carpark at all times. The bollards are placed in the centre of the carparks to enable cars to drive over them. I have only noticed a couple of cars that are set so low to have a need to avoid them. Also, please do not let your children out of the cars to run across the carpark particularly if you are a few minutes late; park toward the rear of the carpark and walk your child/ren to the gate or to the office if you need to sign them in. These were due last week and we need to confirm student numbers for YR 6 CELEBRATION Preparations have started for the Year 6 Thanksgiving mass and presentation. 5 PARISH NEWS Thank you from the Social Events Group The social events group would like to say a sincere thank you to all the parishioners that participated in the car boot sale. It was a fun filled day with lots of bargains to find. The amount raised was $655.80, this amount was given to the Parish. 6pm Mass 1 st December Welcome Fr Ed Molony a member of the seminar staff. He will be celebrating Mass on the 1 st December whilst Fr Gerard has a wedding to attend in Geelong. Let us give a warm welcome to Fr Ed Molony. St. Vincent De Paul Society Christmas Tree Christmas is around the corner and this year St. Vinnie s Christmas tree will be up in early December near the piety store at the back of the church. A wooden tag holder with gift tags for boys and girls from the ages (1 to 12 years old) along with hamper tags are to be taken home and brought back with gifts and hampers as early as possible. We will distribute all toys and hampers to families before Christmas. When we visit families during week evenings parents are already asking if they are on the Christmas list. It all depends on how much we have to give. Without the generosity of the parishioners, Christmas day would not be as happy and exciting for children as it could be. Many families, single mothers, and single people are struggling to make ends meet. The conference will close on Friday 30 th November and will reopen on Monday 4 th February Thank you from the St. Vincent De Paul Team November Remembrance Book Our special remembrance book will be available before all Masses during the month of November. If you have previously recorded the deceased person name in the remembrance book there is no need to do it again. No Mass - There will be no Mass on Thursday 22 nd November at 7.00pm 1 st Reconciliation Grade three Resurrection Primary school children are experiencing God s love and forgiveness in the Sacrament of Reconciliation for the first time on the 19 th, 20 th & 22 nd November at 7.00pm. Please keep the children and their families in your prayers. Christ the King Since 1925 the universal Church has celebrated the 35 th and last Sunday of Ordinary Time with the Feast of Christ the King. The feast honours the Christ s sovereignty over all persons, families, nations and the whole universe. For the past 18 years we as a parish, have celebrated this feast with a distinctive Samoan flavour. IT gives us an opportunity as a parish to recognise and celebrate with our parishioners who trace their root back to Samoa. The celebrations will be at our 10.30am Mass on Sunday 25 th November. Save the date Mark your calendars, our next working bee will be on Saturday 1st December from 8.30am till Noon. Many hands make light work. This will be our last working bee for the year, so please try and make every effort to be there. Invitation to Parish BBQ Break Up - Wednesday, 5th December 2018 at 7pm If you are in a Parish Group or part of a ministry or help in anyway, you and your family are invited to come along to our end of year BBQ. Sausages, Hamburgers and drinks will be provided. Please bring a salad or dessert to share Upcoming Events Tuesday 11th December Christmas Lunch. Save the date, lunch will be held at the St. Albans Sports Club. For all those interested please contact Elizabeth Thompson on Port Phillip Prison Fr Gerard will be celebrating Mass at Port Phillip prison this Tuesday 27 th November. There will be a Communion Service instead of the usual Mass at 9.30am on that day.
