1 Prayer Guide Lent Week 3
2 Cornerstone Prayer Guide 2017 Why use this guide? The purpose of this guide is to aid us and our families in this Lenten season in two main ways: 1. To Look In: Lent is a time to re-orient our lives upon death and resurrection of Christ. Lent is also a time to look inward to reflect on our lives and our relationship with God and his church a spiritual inventory of sorts. Use this time and se devotional exercises to repent and confess where you see sin and idolatry in your lives and to stand in awe of redemption and restoration that was accomplished through Christ. This should drive us forward in our anticipation of celebrating The resurrection hope of Easter! 2. To Look up: Lent is a time to focus our hearts and minds on God in prayer. Just as we often prepare for big events in our lives like weddings, anniversaries or trips, so we should take time to prepare for Easter. With Easter we celebrate greatest event in human history resurrection of Christ which purchased our redemption! Galatians 4:4 reminds us, But when fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under law, to redeem those who were under law, so that we might receive adoption as sons. How to use this guide? Each week will highlight a me appropriate with season of Lent. There will be a hymn and prayer for week accompanied by daily scripture readings. We encourage you to incorporate a stanza from hymn and prayer into each day s devotional time. There are also discussion questions to help foster engagement with daily readings. Please use se by yourself or with your family as appropriate. The hope is that this guide will enhance and aid your experience of Lent this year.

4 Lenten Prayer: Almighty God, you know that we have no power in ourselves to help ourselves: Keep us both outwardly in our bodies and inwardly in our souls, that we may be defended from all adversities which may happen to body, and from all evil thoughts which may assault and hurt soul; You are are only comfort, our only true and lasting source of hope. You are bread of life who calls us to fill ourselves with your provisions. Help us this week to turn from self-centered and evil desires, empty calories of this world s buffet, and instead feast upon your grace which compels us to love one anor. We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord; who lives and reigns with you and Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. *The Lord s Prayer Our ar in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. or yours is kingdom and power and glory forever. Amen
