This includes all students in high school and college. Register with the priest after Mass. If you move out of the parish, please notify the rectory. BAPTISMS Sunday: 12:30 PM or during any weekend liturgy. Prior to baptism of their first child, parents are required to attend a Pre-Baptism class. Please call the rectory at to schedule an interview. MARRIAGES Should be arranged with a priest by calling the rectory 6 months prior to the wedding date. Individual conferences, plus attendance at a pre-marriage program, are required for proper preparation.

2 Twenty-First Sunday in Ordinary Time August 26, 2018 FROM THE DESK OF THE PASTOR After all the bad press that we, the Church, has received over the past few weeks, it is important for us to remember what Church is all about. The Church is made up of priests, religious and laity. We are all part of the Body of Christ. As I said last week at all the Masses, when one part of the body suffers, we all suffer with it. That is why it is so very important that we do not lose faith in the Church or what the Church represents. Please know that I am not here to make excuses for what has taken place in the past, but I can offer support and prayers for those who have been hurt. These offenses do not just stop at sexual abuse but as priests, we are human and have bad days and we can say something really stupid and truly offend and hurt another person. It is never intentional, but trust me, it can happen. I know there are times I regret things I have said. Sometimes, I think that I am being funny but it does not come out that way or my mind is someplace else and someone can approach me and I respond harshly. If I have ever offended anyone, please know I am truly sorry. Having just said this, I think the biggest thing we have to remember is that the Church is not our Church but it belongs to God. Our Savior Jesus Christ suffered and died for the Church. He rose to new life in promise to those who try to reman faithful to all that the Church teaches so that we will gain everlasting life with Him in heaven. I know that it is hard to stand tall these days and profess that we are Catholic, but never be embarrassed by the Church. The Church you know to be the one true Church. The Catholic Church can get messy because of the human beings that make it up but it will always be sustained by the one true and Living God. You and I both know that there will be many people who will use one excuse or another to get out of going to Church, stating that the Church is to blame for their lack of faith or the reason they do not practice their faith anymore. Please remember these are just excuses to make themselves feel better for walking away. We cannot do that if the Church is to grow and become stronger in holiness. We all need to draw closer to God and one another. We remain faithful so that we can help those who were truly hurt and need our compassion, love and prayers. The Church has survived many scandals over the centuries and we will survive this as well. I ask and pray that you do not become part of the problem but help the Church by becoming part of the solution. Please, this means that you do not grow angry at God or His Church. This is a time when our Savior Jesus is calling out to those who care enough to defend and support Him and His Bride, Holy Mother Church. He was there for us now it is our turn to show our faith in Him. Peace and Goodness, Fr. Bill I Shall spend every moment loving. 3 St. Thomas More Church Brooklyn, OH MUSIC MINISTRY Adult Choir - It s time to start warming up your vocal cords and pulling out your Music Issue! Adult Choir practices will begin for the season starting on Tuesday, September 4th. Practices are held every Tuesday in the church from 7-8pm. I know there is much talent in this parish, and the Adult Choir is a great way to use your gifts without giving a huge time commitment. You are also welcome to come for a couple of rehearsals to check it out. RECTORY CLOSED ON SEPTEMBER 3RD The rectory will be closed on Monday, September 3rd due to the observance of Labor Day and Mass will be at 9am. TRAVELING MADONNA This week the statue is at the home of Deacon Chuck & Marian Zawadzki Please continue to pray for our host families as they share their home with our Traveling Madonna. Remember to send in any pictures that you take of the Madonna when she is at your home. MARY QUEEN OF PEACE: Bingo - Located in the air-conditioned Parish Center every Friday. 4 Twenty-First Sunday in Ordinary Time August 26, 2018 YOUTH MINISTRY Any and all high school students interested in helping lead our High School Youth Ministry should plan on attending a meeting this weekend, August 26th from 6-8pm in the Youth Ministry Center (next to the cafeteria). Team members help formulate ideas for events and gatherings. There will be no activity next weekend due to the Labor Day holiday. Look for our kick-off event in September as we begin meeting on a regular basis. Parents of 7th and 8th graders are invited to our annual Junior High Youth Group Parent Meeting on Thursday, September 6th at 7pm in the Youth Ministry Center. For more information, please contact Jeff Stutzman. FAITH FORMATION RCIA - Are you or someone you know interested in becoming Catholic? If so, why not explore a little more? Come to RCIA (The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults). Sessions meet every Monday from 7-8pm in the school beginning on September 10th and continuing through May 6th. It s not too late to register! Please call the rectory. God Bless! ATHLETICS Thank you to those who supported this weekend s Car Wash and Donut Sale! The funds donated and raised in this weekend s fundraiser will be used to purchase new uniforms, equipment and other items to continually offer a safe and quality athletic program for the youth of the parish. Monthly donut sales on Saturday and Sunday will begin on the final weekend of the month in September. Look for our athletes for the annual helmet drive on September 15th and 16th. Thank you again for your generosity. PSR The Parish School of Religion, PSR, provides religion classes once a week on Monday evenings (6:45-8pm) for students in grades 1-8 who attend public school. Classes are led by volunteer catechists who truly enjoy sharing our Catholic faith with our young parishioners. Registration is still open and classes begin on September 10th!
