This includes all students in high school and college. Register with the priest after Mass. If you move out of the parish, please notify the rectory. BAPTISMS Sunday: 12:30 PM or during any weekend liturgy. Prior to baptism of their first child, parents are required to attend a Pre-Baptism class. Please call the rectory at to schedule an interview. MARRIAGES Should be arranged with a priest by calling the rectory 6 months prior to the wedding date. Individual conferences, plus attendance at a pre-marriage program, are required for proper preparation.

3 Thirtieth Sunday in Ordinary Time October 28, 2018 FROM THE DESK OF THE PASTOR We are rapidly approaching Voting Day. Tuesday, November 6th is Election Day. That means if you have not chosen to vote by mail, you will need to go to your local voting center and place your vote there. I know that I am unable to say anything about who to vote for nor would I even attempt to tell someone how they should vote. But it is very important that everyone vote. Why is it important to vote? It is important because everyone s voice should be heard. We cannot criticize what the government is doing if we do not use our right to vote. I know that it is hard to stay wellinformed about what candidate stands for what. They word the issues so backward that you have to read it over a few times to make sure you are voting the way you want to. It is necessary to ask yourself, what do I believe and how does my conscience guide me in what I believe? What does the Church say about certain issues and how does one candidate stand for that issue over another? Who upholds the dignity and rights of all people born and unborn? Where do candidates stand on issues of immigration and health care? The most important question is who do you believe to be honest and fair? Elections are the way we use our voice to make a difference. Could you imagine what it would be like if every Catholic in our country used their right to vote and voted faithful to the Gospel? There would be some, dare I say many, politicians out of a job because they choose to listen to their own agenda and not to the voice of the people that they are called to serve. A few years back we collected signatures for the dignity of human life in all forms especially medical and health assistance programs. Many representatives sent back a thank you letter and said that they appreciated the input and would keep the concerns of the people in mind when voting on these issues. There was one representative who flat out said I really don t care about these signatures and will vote on how I see fit. He basically said I do not care about you the people! This is why I say that your vote matters. Make your voice heard. Inform yourself to the best of your ability and vote for those who stand for honesty and the rights for all people. This is a great country and we must use our voice to make sure that the values and morals of the Gospel are held up for all people. Peace and Goodness, Fr. FIRST FRIDAY EUCHARISTIC DEVOTION Every First Friday of the month we have exposition of the Eucharist from 2-4:30pm ending with Benediction. Stop in for lunch at the Craft Fair Kitchen! All proceeds benefit the school children. ST. LEO THE GREAT: Bus Trip - Join us on Thursday, December 6th for a trip to Oglebay. We will stop at Hilltop shops, the Glass Museum, Wilson Lodge buffet (dinner included), Winter Fantasy at the Good Zoo and end with the Festival of Lights. Cost is $92. ANOINTING OF THE SICK This Sunday, October 28th at 1pm, we will have our Mass of the Anointing of the Sick. If you or someone you know would like to be anointed, please plan on joining us. This will fulfill your Sunday obligation. ALL SOULS EVENING PRAYER SERVICE The St. Thomas More Ministry of Consolation would like to personally invite you and your family to attend an All Souls Day Prayer Service on Friday, November 2nd at 7pm in the church. We will remember all parishioners who have passed away from October 1, 2017 thru September 30, This ceremony will honor the name of your loved one with a special candle that will be placed on the altar by members of the Ministry Team. NOVEMBER MEMORIAL CANDLES In the month of November, we remember our beloved dead. This year, why not honor them with a Memorial Candle? This Memorial Candle will have their name inscribed on it and will be lit for the whole month of November. Candles are $20 for a new candle and $15 if you are returning your 2017 candle. Forms are available at the rectory and in the main church vestibule.

5 Thirtieth Sunday in Ordinary Time October 28, 2018 ST. THOMAS MORE ATHLETICS The 8th grade football team beat St. Raphael s last Sunday, 6-0, in an amazing game ending in the St. Thomas More defense making a goal line stand in the last minute to secure the victory and advance to the City Championship. Come cheer on our 8th grade team in their CYO Championship Game this Sunday, October 28th at 1pm at Independence High School. Thank you to everyone who supported this weekend s donut sale. Our next donut sale is scheduled for the weekend of November 17th and 18th. YOUTH MINISTRY This weekend is our annual Trunk or Treat. High school students can get service hours by volunteering to help run the event. Volunteers are needed from 4:30pm until 8pm. Even if families did not sign up for the Trunk or Treat portion of the evening, all are welcome to the Halloween Movie Night at 6pm in the gym. CUB SCOUTS The St. Thomas More Cub Scouts would like to give back to our parish by cleaning 4-6 lawns of leaves and debris on Saturday, November 10th for some who may need some assistance. HOPE FOR THE HOLIDAYS The St. Thomas More Ministry of Consolation will once again offer a program to help all those who are hurting through the loss of a loved one, especially during the holiday season. Cassandra Zabor, of Zabor Funeral Home, will be our guest speaker on Sunday, November 11th at 2pm in Utopia Hall. This is open to ALL who are dealing with death and grieving no matter how long it has been. THANKS FOR YOUR MISSION VOICE! Thank you for being a voice for mission on World Mission Sunday! You can also visit THANKSGIVING MEAL PROGRAM The City of Brooklyn in conjunction with St. Thomas More is sponsoring its annual Thanksgiving meal program. If your family could use assistance this Thanksgiving, please contact the rectory at by Wednesday, November 7th. THANKSGIVING FOOD COLLECTION The weekend of November 10th-11th food will be collected for the City of Brooklyn Food Collection which will serve the needy in our area. Please bring ONLY items that would be used for a Thanksgiving dinner, such as sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce, potatoes, vegetables, desserts, etc. Donations can be dropped off in the church library. Thank you in advance for your generosity. ADVENT GIVING TREE If you or someone you know who lives within the parish area is in need of assistance, please contact the rectory. The deadline to register is November 16th. Due to the overwhelming interest in this program, we will only be taking information for people in the parish area. Jacob Bearer on Tuesday, November 13th starting at 6pm at St. Gabriel Church (Concord). PRIESTHOOD SUNDAY Today, Catholics across the country will be celebrating Priesthood Sunday. It is a day set aside to celebrate the importance of the gift of priesthood in the life of the Church. It is a time for us to reflect on the ministry that our priests share with us when we gather at the Table of the Lord. Consider sharing a personal note or card of thanks. Together we pray that many of our young people will be inspired by the ministry and witness of our priests. May their hearts be open to hearing and responding to God s call in their lives.
