1 United Methodist Church PA THW A Y December, 2012 The Mission of crossroads VMC is to go forth and make disciples in the name of Jesus Christ. Our Vision as a unified body of believers in Jesus Christ, VMC will reach out and welcome with and loving hearts, people of all ages who seek to learn the disciplines of discipleship. Through prayerful whole life worship, we will discover the presence of the Holy Spirit. DECEMBER NEWS CHRISTMAS EVE SERVICE: Come join us as we celebrate the real reason for Christmas - the birth of the Savior, Jesus Christ. There will be Scripture reading, special music, congregational carol singing, and Communion. The service is 9-10 pm on Dec. 24. We need volunteers to prepare Communion Elements next year. Please consider helping at least one month. Sign up in the Narthex. Scripture i John 1;1-18 As I write this article Israeland Hamasare firing rockets at each other and lives are being lost (please pray for this situation). When violence starts in that region people start talking about the end times and Christ's return. But we need to acknowledge that the creator of the universe has already come to us; lived; died and rose again. We should take this time of preparation before Christmas to remember the saving grace offered to each of us. We should acknowledge that his grace saves, comforts, sustainsand guides us each and every day. This period we are entering on the Christian calendar is called Advent. Advent is a tradition that started about 480 AD as a kind of less strict observance of Lent in preparation for the Christmas feast. (Interesting that something that was designedfor giving up things is now associated with such over-indulgence). Advent historically was a time of waiting and preparation for the coming of Christ; a time of prayer and reflection. Advent should provide the context for the Christmas story and help usto celebrate it more fully. How times have changed! We spend more time decorating our homesthan reading Hisword. We spend more time shopping than praying for His guidance, forgiveness, and the needs of others. And often more money for one gift than some people earn in a year in some countries. if we believe Christ will come again we should be ready for our "homegoing" or His return. To do that let us spend more time with Him, more time loving His people (and all are His people) and lessmoney and time on things that will expire. Our Charge Conference has been scheduled for December 5 at 7:00 pm. Trustee meeting is December 17th at 6:00PM. Any youth interested in going to Resurrection on January 18-21, 2013, please see Michael Leach. There is a new senior high only Sunday School class starting on Dec. 2. The study is titled Vivid: A Study of the Book of James and will be led by Marty Polson. See Marty or Pastor Randy if interested. On Sunday, Dec. 16, our children will sing for us at the 11:00 service and at Baysmont at 4 pm that afternoon. We practice during Children's Church on Sunday mornings. THE HALL CLOSET will be every Thursday from 10 am - 12 pm and the second Saturday of each month from 10 am - 12 pm to help those in need. We still need our members to donate new or used clothes and coats, especially kid's sizes. If you can help at least one Thurs. or Sat. a month, please write your name on the sign-up sheet in the Narthex. $0, I wish all of you a blessed Christmas season and Day. Join us for worship services and our Christmas Eve serviceaswell. Rememberto store up treasure in heavenwhile you are able, God Bless, Randy Sweet little Jesus boy, help us to remember who you really are. "This is how God showed his love for us: God sent his one and only son into the world to give us life." 1 John 4:9
