2 Father Mike s Musings I am hopeful that we will become a strong parish for many years to come. We are all challenged by its newness and the gradual process of becoming a new parish, and many of us are frightened and confused. I had learned some time ago that in frightening and highly stressful situations a person generally chooses fight or flight. I am saddened that some of our parishioners have fled; the beauty of a newly merged parish is the art of blending all available resources, especially the parishioners, which we are doing step by step. I spoke to a parishioner last Monday, and she shared that parish mergers are confusing and her fears that she had to transfer to another parish, and who would take care of her spiritual needs. As the data bases from St. Elizabeth Ann Seton and St. Thomas Aquinas Parishes will be merged, so the new parish has a single data base, there is no need to worry about your belonging to our parish, nor to worry whether or not Father Rudy, Deacon John and I will care for your needs. I make a simple request please give our parish a chance. I need all of you to form the new St. Thomas Aquinas Parish, so I would be truly irresponsible to casually let parishioners go to another parish. I am willing to speak with you about your fears and concerns, and ask that you make an appointment with me, or Father Rudy or Deacon John; allow us to help you through these tough transitions. There is some confusion about the transfer of parish records to other parishes. For clarity, all parish records from the former St. Elizabeth Ann Seton and St. Thomas Aquinas Parishes are securely housed at St. Thomas Aquinas Parish, as is typical when parishes merge. All records in these cases are stored at the parish church. A word about the Sacrament of Confirmation as the young people from St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish had celebrated the sacrament in either 7 th of 8 th grade, every other year, Confirmation will not be celebrated in our parish this year. By postponing the sacrament this year, more young people will be prepared for next year. I made this decision after speaking with Father Rudy and Deacon John. Positively, PREP now extends to Levels 7 and 8; we are never finished learning about our Catholic faith. You are probably most aware of the recent Supreme Court decision to strike down the 35 foot buffer zone in Massachusetts on the basis that it violates the first amendment rights of protesters. Hopefully, this will enable the same rights equally to have access to give information to women so that they can truly have the opportunity to choose. Even public witness seems to be softening spectators that pass by in cars as we stand in front of the abortion clinic in Warminster. The BCPLC had a Run/Walk on June 28, 2014 to help keep the funding flowing for there women who are in crisis pregnancies. Spiritually and financially we are grateful for the support that you and your parishioners give. The BCPLC will continue to work hard to pass that support on to the crisis pregnancy care centers. Retreat for Healing Sexual Abuse Grief to Grace - Healing the Wounds of Abuse is a spiritual program for anyone who has suffered degradation or violation through physical, emotional. Sexual, or spiritual abuse. It is appropriate for anyone who has endured sexual abuse, rape, incest, or other forms of traumatic violation in childhood or adolescence. It is also appropriate for anyone who has been abused by clergy. The program will be held August 31st through September 5th in Aston, PA. Grief to Grace invites participants to journey through this program in the name of love - love for themselves, love for family and friends, love for those who have suffered unspeakable abuse and mistreatment, and love for the Church - The suffering body of Christ, who cries out for comfort and consolation in the midst of profound betrayal and abandonment. The program offers a very unique process for helping victims of abuse to grieve the past and discover spiritual healing and transformation. Dr. Theresa Burke who is the founder of Rachel s Vineyard - retreats for healing after abortion, composed the program and will serve as the facilitator for this retreat. Visit for more information.
