2 2 Days Following Easter The meek shall obtain fresh joy in the LORD, and the poor among mankind shall exult in the Holy One of Israel. For the ruthless shall come to nothing and the scoffer cease, and all who watch to do evil shall be cut off, who by a word make a man out to be an offender, and lay a snare for him who reproves in the gate, and with an empty plea turn aside him who is in the right. Therefore thus says the LORD, who redeemed Abraham, concerning the house of Jacob: Jacob shall no more be ashamed, no more shall his face grow pale. For when he sees his children the work of my hands, in his midst, they will sanctify my name; they will sanctify the Holy One of Jacob and will stand in awe of the God of Israel. And those who go astray in spirit will come to understanding, and those who murmur will accept instruction. (Isaiah 29:19 24) On Easter Sunday, the church is buzzing. The smell of the Easter morning breakfast is everywhere. People are dressed to perfection. The church is decorated with Easter lilies. Voices echo throughout the church saying Happy Easter. He is risen! He is risen indeed, Alleluia. Hymn after hymn is loudly sung by all. Then it is over. Breakfast is gone! The flowers are gone! The people are gone! The joy of Easter is gone! Or is it? The words of Isaiah seem so appropriate: And the Lord said: Because this people draw near with their mouth and honor me with their lips, while their hearts are far from Me (Isaiah 29:13.) How easy it is in the months following Easter to go through the motions? How easy it is for us to forget about Easter, and our risen Lord.

3 Yet, our Lord gives us a wonderful gift that continually brings us back to Jesus death and resurrection. We begin every Divine Service with the words, In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit (Matthew 28:19) to remember this gift. It is the gift of Holy Baptism. St Paul wrote in Romans chapter six; We were therefore buried with Him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life. (Romans 6:4) Daily we should remember our baptism. In our baptism we have been baptized into Christ s death and resurrection. All of us have a new status in the eyes of God. Baptism gives us the privilege of calling upon God, our Father, knowing that He will hear us as His dear children. It also gives us the privilege of knowing that He will forgive us through the nail-pierced hands of Jesus. Isaiah offers great hope for all of us as we worship our Lord. Isaiah wrote, Once more the humble will rejoice in the Lord Those who are wayward in Spirit will gain understanding. (Isaiah 29:19a, 24a). Praise filled worship waits every Sunday as we gather in the presence of God around His Word and Sacraments. Moved by the crucified and risen Savior, our mouths and lips should reflect the joy of our hearts all year long. No matter what time of the year it is, we remember how blessed we are to be baptized children of God. Amen. In His Service, Rev. Craig S. 9 9 Preschool News This school year is just flying by! We have been so busy! We started March out by cooking green eggs and ham. It was quite the hit! In March, our Bible lessons were about events leading up to Jesus' death on the cross. April's lessons will focus on the death and resurrection of Jesus. We will be celebrating our 100th day in early April. The children have opted for a pajama party. We will also be finishing up the alphabet. After that, it will be reviewing for the last few weeks of school. We have had some Bible Buddies visit our room. The children absolutely love it when their 'buddy' stops by. A huge thank you to Roberta Baye, Marie Perenchio, and Lois Hoople for making these kids' day awesome!

10 10 Remember when there were shelves of books as you came in the east entrance? Well, they have been moved! They are now in the room which used to be Pastor s office. They are organized, a listing of all the books is in the church office, and a simple check out system is in place. Take a few minutes to check it out; you may be surprised at what you find! There are books of the Bible, Bibles, daily devotions, and some children s books just to name a few. There is a check out list on a clip board in the library. Simply write the title of the book, your name, and the date. When you return the book, write the date under the date returned column. We hope you enjoy our Church Library! If you are interested in donating books, please talk to Pastor Zandi.

11 Pledge to the Christian Flag I pledge allegiance to the cross of my Lord Jesus Christ and to the faith for which it stands, One Savior, King Eternal, with mercy and grace for all. Both flags have the same three (3) colors but they mean different things. Jesus gave his life blood on a cross. Blood is red. That is why the cross on our Christian flag is red. The royal blue color around the cross is to remind us that Jesus is King! King over all the world. The white color tells us that God, through Jesus, has made each of us pure and clean. This part of our flag is the biggest part. There are lots of people in the world, and Jesus makes all who believe in Him clean and holy. 11

13 14 Ladies Bible Study will be April 16, 2018 at 4:30 pm. The Bible Study is found on pages 20 and 22 of the Lutheran Women's Quarterly Spring The Bible Study is entitled "Prayer Gives My Life Balance" by Kay Meyer. If you need a copy see Paula. The 37th Biennial North Wisconsin District LWML Convention will be held June 24-26, 2018 in Stevens Point, Wisconsin. Theme: "Remember All the Blessings" Psalm 103:2. Four mission groups have been chosen to be recipients of the convention in-gathering. They are: MOST Ministries; Peace Lutheran Campus Ministry, UW-Stevens Point; Shirley s House of Hope, Marshfield; Orphan Grain Train. If you read the Annual Report you will know how many eyeglasses and eyeglass cases were sent to MOST Ministries in We did not send that many by ourselves, it took volunteers from the entire congregation. We are asking the congregation's help again in We would like to take to the convention gifts for MOST Ministries and at least one other of the recipients list above. More information will be provided as decisions are made and we hear more from the District.

14 15 Gifts from the Heart Day at St. Johns Saturday, April 14, AM Assemble pillowcase dresses, eyeglass cases and witness bracelets. You do not need to sew to help. People are needed to assemble the witness bracelets. Prayerfully consider coming to join us to assemble as many of each item as possible. If you plan to attend please sign up at the LWML display in the fellowship hall. Lunch will be provided thanks to the Thrivent Grant.

15 16 Ladies Bible Study Monday 6 p.m. (April 23, April 30, May 7, May 14) Meeting in the church library Amy Tousey & Roberta Baye will be leading a study on Living a Chocolate Life by Deb Burma. We plan to cover two chapters each session (lasting about 1 to 1 ½ hours each). Please sign up on the sheet in the fellowship hall if you are interested in joining us for this study. Please indicate if you would like us to order you a book. 16 17 The LWML Zone 4 Spring Rally will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sheldon on Tuesday, April 10, Registration will begin at 9:30 a.m. and will begin at 10 a.m. The cost of the Rally is $8.00. The women of St. Johns are invited to attend. Anyone wishing to carpool can meet at St. Johns at 9 a.m. The speaker will be Leah Lehman who will speak on Church Basement Women Then and Now Rita Jeske and Sue Pheil will lead us in a Bible Study written by Dawn Via entitled: Names of God Gift from the Heart for the Rally will be given to the Orphan Grain Train. 17 18 March 2018 Mission Grant Bulletin Bytes #8 Hearts for the Hungry, Homeless, and Hurting $100,000 NOLA 4H is the acronym for the LWML Grant #8 Hearts for the Hungry, Homeless, and Hurting. We all remember Hurricane Katrina but most of us don t know that there are many people still suffering with homelessness and lacking the basic necessities of life. Six pastors in the hardest hit neighborhoods are reaching out with the help of the LWML to show the love of Jesus and provide food and shelter and comfort. For more information about NOLA 4H, please go to Six pastors have banded together to reach out to their neighbors and friends in some of the poorest areas in New Orleans to provide food, shelter, medical assistance and care. There are still many people suffering from Hurricane Katrina primarily because they are poor and lack the resources to get back on their feet. These pastor are sharing the love of Jesus we love because he first loved us. NOLA 4H is the acronym for the LWML Grant #8 Hearts for the Hungry, Homeless, and Hurting. 18 19 QUILTING NEWS Recently, three quilts were given to a local Red Cross volunteer to be given to someone who has had a house fire. It is convenient for her to have some on hand. We are a dedicated group, as some of us cut and sew the tops of the quilts at home. They are then assembled, sewed and tied while we are at church. But, there s always time for coffee! Crafty Stitchers Our knitters and crocheters have been busy! We have given away 3 prayer shawls, 1 Baptismal afghan, and lots of pocket prayer shawls for Susie Pflughoeft. A special thank you to the Lucile Kuchta family for donating yarn and supplies to our group. We will think of Lucile as we create things for others; in fact, some of her yarn has already been crocheted into blocks for Warm Up America!

19 20 STEWARDSHIP A godly attitude in using our time, talents, and treasures for Christ and His Kingdom. April Charity of the Month On April 22nd, our charity will be Camp Luther Scholarships. Please use the designated envelope from your packs and mark on them the charity for that month. Only monies that are specifically designated will go to that charity. If you have any questions about the Charity of the Month, please speak with a member of the Stewardship Board.
