6 and now a word from Our Pastor

7 page 7 FROM OUR DIRECTOR OF WORSHIP, PAUL CIOTTI God our Father, God, our Father, You have a plan for each one of us. You hold out to us a future full of hope. Give us the wisdom of Your Spirit so that we can see the shape of Your plan in the gifts You have given us, and in the circumstances of our daily lives. Give us the freedom of Your Spirit, to seek You with all our hearts, and to choose Your Will above all else. We make this Prayer through Christ our Lord. Amen. This prayer is a Prayer for Discernment. Discernment is defined as the ability to judge well, and it is very much a part of our Catholic Christian tradition. Spiritual discernment is first and foremost a GIFT FROM GOD. Spiritual discernment calls on the Holy Spirit to give direction on a matter. When we seek to align our will with God s will, we give glory to God, honoring His will in our lives, so that we can better understand His plan for our lives. No matter what decision we are facing, big or small, the Spirit is at work. Sometimes it is more subtle, and at other times, very profound. That said, prayerful discernment takes time, effort and practice; it is rarely a sudden jolt. Pray to do God s will, trusting in His plan for you. Be patient, limit distractions and pay close attention to the prompting of the Holy Spirit. And, if necessary, seek the counsel of your spiritual advisor, trusted Christian advisors and friends, asking them to pray about the matter. The Holy Spirit has called me to ministry in another Collaborative in the Archdiocese. I will be leaving the Chelmsford Catholic Collaborative. I have been so blessed to be part of your Baptisms, First Holy Communions, Confirmations, Funerals, Weekend Masses, Christmas Masses, Outdoor Masses & BBQ, Holy Thursday s Pasta Suppers, Missions, Retreats, Penance Services, Prayer Services, Evenings of Reflection, and the many, many more encounters that we have all shared together... and certainly our beautiful and prayerful Christmas Liturgies and Triduums throughout my decade plus of ministry. I have been named Collaborative Director of Worship and Music for a 3-parish Collaborative in the Archdiocese of Boston. My appointment fulfills their new Pastoral Plan to enhance all of their liturgical experiences. It is a big job ahead, please keep me in your prayers! Thank you all, again for our journey together in faith and our love for our Catholic Faith. July 30th, 2017: 17th Sunday in Ordinary Time From the Desk of our Senior Priest Fr. Colletti Mother Theresa was asked by a visitor to Calcutta to tell them something that would be useful for them to lead their lives in a more profitable way. She answered, Smile at each other. Smile at your wives, at your husbands, at your children, at all. Let mutual love for others grow each day in all of you. What is man that you are mindful of him, the son of man that you care for him? You have made him a little lower that the heavenly beings Teach us how to pray This is how you are to pray. An annoyingly persistent neighbor comes pounding on the door of a house nearby, looking for food to give to an unexpected guest. It s midnight, and the irritated occupant calls out in exasperation, Hey, get outta here! If you think I m going to get up at this hour and get something for you, you re mistaken! He can t believe this is happening now, just when the dogs in the alley have finally quit barking and his kids have finally drifted off to sleep. He doesn t want to upset this hard-won tranquility. According to Jesus, however, the neighbor persists, and eventually the poor householder relents, not out of the charities of friendship but simply for the sake of his own peace and quiet. This isn t the loveliest image one could imagine for talking about prayer, and yet it is a powerful one. I can think of no one other than Jesus who actually encourages us to be annoying with God. And in the same way-by our faith-the Holy Spirit helps us with our daily problems and in our praying. For we don t even know what we should pray for, nor how to pray as we should; but the Holy Spirit prays for us with such feeling that it cannot be expressed in words. And the Father who knows all hearts knows, of course, what the Spirit is saying as he pleads for us in harmony with God s own will. And we know that all that happens to us is working for our good if we love God and are fitting into his plans

In the hopes of giving you a clearer picture of the financial health of our parish, we are now reporting what the offertory actually needs to be to meet budgeted expenses. FY 2018 Campaign FY 2018 Campaign Your completed pledge card can be dropped in the offertory basket, or you can mail it in the envelope provided. We are grateful for your generosity! NOTE that letters and pledge cards were mailed to the home of each registered family in both parishes. If you did not receive yours, please call the parish office. As human beings, we desire to find happiness. This desire is so strong that we often go to great lengths to discover and obtain it. Unfortunately, our search sometimes brings us to the wrong places. We mistakenly think that money, certain possessions, social status, popularity, and even power and control can satisfy the longing that exists in our hearts. Time and again, one after another, these things come up empty and we find ourselves with the same unfulfilled longing gnawing at us deep within. It is only the kingdom of God that can satisfy our desire and that ache. We are made and hardwired for this. When we discover it, we know that we have found something very special--a pearl of great price. Then, everything comes together and is put in proper order: our relationship with God, others, ourselves, and even the universe in which we live.
