The Diocese recommended stipend for this is $10.00 per request but no request will be denied based on ability to pay. Mass cards are also available for those who would like to inform a loved one of the request.

2 Dear Brothers and Sisters, Bringing The Love Of Christ To Our Communities The readings for today reveal the patience and kindness of God towards His people. In the First Reading, Isaiah, the Prophet, sings a song of praise to the Lord for His kindness in planting a vineyard and caring for it. The vineyard represents the people of Israel whom God liberated from the slavery of the Pharaoh and guided them with love and miracles to the promised land. Then, through judges and prophets, God patiently called them to faith in Him and to reject evil. Finally God sent Jesus as Savior of the world, Who brought us the Good News of the Gospel of Salvation and Who poured out the Holy Spirit upon us so that we may be transform into the image of Jesus Christ - holy and full of love. But many reject Him, the Keystone, given by God so that in Him we may bear fruits of love for faith as expressed by love. It is through faith in Jesus Christ that we are saved and live in His love. That is why the mission of the Church is to bring people to faith in Christ. We do this by proclaiming the Gospel, by witnessing to His love, by welcoming and caring for each other. As St. Paul, in the Second Reading, challenges us to always choose that which is loving and good, praying and trusting in God's kindness and patience that we may be full of His peace. Prayer is very important to open us to God's Holy Spirit and to listen to God so that we may carry out His loving will, giving us His peace and making us an instrument of His love to others. It is through our union in Jesus Christ and by our love that people will come to believe in Jesus Christ present among us. That is why we need to pray that God keeps increasing our faith and love so that we and all who come to us will know the peace of God. It is because we need to give examples of love and kindness that I started (a few weeks ago) welcoming people to Mass and have encouraged our Mass leaders and parishioners to be welcoming. I started also a few weeks ago to welcome children to pray the Lord's Prayer with me because the children sometimes feel neglected. I am encouraging all priests who substitute for me to continue this practice. Soon I will have the altar servers sit by me so that they too may feel more involved. We also have been reflecting how to minister better to our youth, young adults, and our families including our school families. I am so grateful that many of our parishioners are willing to participate and become leaders in welcoming people, getting more involved in our liturgies and ministries and become leaders in our Parish. For me this is crucial. The Church is all of us. All the baptized are called to share their faith and use their gifts to build the Church, to make a loving caring communion where all encounter Jesus Christ and His hope. I always count on the advice and help of our parishioners and the need for all to do their part in building the Body of Christ and proclaiming the Good News of the Gospel. That is why the advisory councils mandated by the Church are very important to me and necessary for us to do the Lord's work. For this reason, in the next few weeks, I will be sharing with you the mission of the advisory councils, hoping and praying that the Lord will call some of you to be on these councils and share with me the work the Lord has entrusted to us. Above all let us pray that we may follow the Lord Who loves us and is our hope and salvation. I also want to thank Fr. Kiernan for presiding at some of the Masses last weekend and for the way you welcomed him. I want to let you know too that Fr. Brendan McKeefry will preside at the 5:30pm Mass next Saturday, October 11th, and do confessions and offer the opening prayer at the Auction. Many of you already know I will be in Rhode Island witnessing the marriage of one of my nieces and, because I have had no vacation in a couple of years, I will spend a couple of weeks with my family. 3 STEWARDSHIP AT OUR LADY OF THE ASSUMPTION FINANCIAL SUPPORT Offertory Collection Results for September 27th & 28th: $9, The stone the builders rejected has become the corner stone - Matthew 21:42 Jesus was the corner stone and He was rejected by the religious and political leaders of his day, as well as ordinary citizens. Living a stewardship lifestyle may cause you to be rejected by others in today s society. For example, saying grace before a meal in a restaurant may attract some strange looks from some. But to others it is sign that God is alive and well! Family Promise The Family Promise program will have representatives available after all Masses this weekend to provide information about what the program provides for homeless families, how to become a volunteer at the church level or become a volunteer at the day center. Please stop by the table in our portico to pick up a brochure and ask any questions that you may have. St. Mary s Cemetery Plots Our Lady of the Assumption has been given a unique opportunity to help an interested parish family find a final resting place for their loved ones in the highly desirable, but no longer available, St. Mary s Cemetery. These side-by-side plots normally sell for $4, each per St. Mary s but are being offered for $3, each. This photograph will be used for the 2014 Parish Directory and will be taken at no cost to you or the parish. Additional pictures are will be available for purchase. Family Mass and High School/Young Adult Masses We would love to have your input on tailoring the 9:30 am Mass for families and tailoring the 7:30pm Mass for High School and Young Adults. Eduino or if it is more convenient for you, your ideas to Men & Women - Annual Retreats The Christ the King Passionist Retreat Center invites the women of our parish to join them for the Women s Retreat the weekend of November 7th to 9th. We hope that you will take advantage of the opportunity to experience peace and quiet in a beautiful setting for some needed rest and spiritual tranquility. If financing is a problem, help is available from the Retreat Center. Honoring Our Loved Ones in November November 1st & 2nd is the celebration of the Feasts of All Saints and All Souls. Remembering our loved ones who have died during this time and throughout the month of November has been a tradition here at OLA. This year, we invite all parishioners to honor a loved one by donating toward the purchase of a fall-colored mum plant which will adorn the church during November. Members of the Liturgy and Environment Committee will be at all Masses on the weekend of October 11th and 12th and October 18th and 19th to accept your $20.00 donation and the name of your loved one that will be placed on the plant. Donations will also be accepted at the Parish Office. As has been done each year, during all the Masses on the weekend of November 1st and 2nd, the names of all parishioners who have passed away since November 1, 2013 will be read aloud. Harvest Feast Bratwurst Dinner Our Lady of the Assumption Parish s Harvest Feast Bratwurst dinner has been set for November 1st at 6:30pm. Please plan on joining us for great food, good company, and fellowship. DIOCESAN EVENTS The Called and Gifted Workshop The Department of Evangelization and Catechesis in partnership with Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish is excited to offer The Called and Gifted workshop from the Catherine of Siena Institute. The workshop will be held at Presentation Parish on October 10th from 7:00pm to 9:00pm and October 11th from 8:30am to 4:30pm, with Holy Mass at 8:30am. The workshop is a two-day live presentation covering Church teaching on the laity and lay apostleship; the nature of spiritual gifts, call, and vocation; and how to undertake the process of discernment. The cost of attendance is $15. The monks of the Abbey of Our Lady of New Clairvaux Trappist monastery in Vina, CA are pleased to invite single Catholic Men age 35 and under seeking to discern God's further call for their lives to a Life Discernment Weekend to be held October 10th - 12th. The Weekend's offerings include conferences on Vocation Discerning: How to Listen; the Theology of Vocation; Monastic Prayer; and monks sharing their own vocation story and experience. SCHOOL NEWS ( CONT D) 8th Grade Fundraiser On October 19th, the 8th grade class will begin efforts to raise funds for this years Washington DC Trip. They will be selling car wash gift cards and Christmas wreaths before and after mass. They will also hold a rummage sale in the school gym on November, 2nd from 8am to 5pm. The children greatly appreciate your support and look forward to this incredible opportunity to learn more about our nation s history! In the gospels Jesus outlines a new way of living that requires unrestricted compassion, unceasing prayer, and unflinching commitment to the struggle against evil. Let us pray this week...
