3 REFLECTIONS & EVENTS The Only Powerful King of the Universe Today our Scripture readings invite us to contemplate Jesus, our merciful King, Who gave His life to save the world confident on God s love and victory. He revealed that the only true power is the power of love because it is God Himself Who is love. While those who thought they had power were blaspheming Him and teasing Him to come down from the cross He gave eternal life to a miserable man hanging at His side. Only Jesus could do that to this man who recognized the Mercy of God in Jesus Christ. In this way, that man inherits the glory of the holy ones. What an appropriate way to conclude this Jubilee Year of Mercy that calls on us to be merciful like the Father. It is mercy and love that are powerful and conquer evil and death. ~Fr. Eduino, Pastor Embracing the True King One of my favorite hobbies is astronomy: looking at the heavens one receives a mind-blowingly immense view of the universe that boggles the imagination. In a way unlike many other sciences, stars, galaxies, planets, nebulae, pulsars, and everything in between, all speak to the glory and beauty of creation. Through studying the universe, one realizes how small we really are. Today, on the Solemnity of Christ the King, however, we are reminded that we indeed have a significant place in this creation; indeed, we inherit the kingdom of his beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. While we do have a special place in the universe we also acknowledge the true King. We must give thanks to the Father because, without Him, we are nothing. We must open our hearts to His son, who remains the way, the truth, and the life. Like the Good Thief we hear about in today s Gospel, we discover that in this grand universe, there is one King, and all things were created through Him to reconcile all things for Him. In other words, He brings creation back to its original glory and saves us from sin and death. So following the thief s example, we turn to our Lord, trusting in His love and mercy, and waiting for the day when He tells us, Amen, I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise. As we remember that there is one King over all of creation and rejoice in the house of the Lord, let us prepare our hearts for His coming which occurs in a very un-kingly manner, shaking the foundations of the world: as a humble baby, held in the arms of our Blessed Mother. For reflection: Where is Jesus not ruling as King in my life? My workplace? In my home? On my drive to work? How can I better reflect this King s love and mercy towards others and toward myself? ~Dean Marshall, OLA Seminarian Intern Mass Requests Please contact the Parish Office if you would like to request a Mass to honor someone special. The Diocese recommended stipend for this is $10.00 per request but no request will be denied based on ability to pay. Martha and Mary Gathering Tuesday, December 6 th Please note the change in date to December 6 th. The meeting will begin at 10:00am and include a catered luncheon. We also explored several ways to help with the St. Vincent de Paul holiday food baskets and others who request help. Mark your calendars for the January Gathering on Thursday, January 5 th at 10:30am.

I was born and brought up in a tiny town named Kalkurichy, in the district of Kanyakumari, in the state of Tamil Nadu. This place is the at the southern tip of India, where three great bodies of water overlap (the Indian Ocean, the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea). I have an older brother and older sister, and am followed by a younger sister. My older brother is married and works in the Gulf; older sister is married and works as a civil engineer. My younger sister is married too and works as a teacher of physical education. I attended the local parish school through the eighth grade, then ninth and tenth in public school before I joined the Passionists at the age of 14, without any idea that I was joining the Passionists. After almost twelve long years of formation I was ordained to priesthood on May 7, 2009 in my own parish church. Although my vocation as a Passionist seemed accidental, my being a Passionist is phenomenal. I belong to the Passionist Vice Province of St. Thomas the Apostle, India. Prior to coming here I ve had the privilege of serving in a variety of roles in multiple provinces of the Passionists. In my first year of priesthood I ve served as the Asst. Director of Students in Passionist Seminary in India, then Director of retreat Center in India, followed by being a principal of a High Secondary School (Jr. College) in India, and most recently in a parish in New Zealand under the Holy Spirit Province of Passionist, Australia. I m extremely pleased to be the new executive Director and Director of Ministry at Christ the King Passionist Retreat Center (in Sacramento). I m so fortunate to have a capable staff, generous volunteers and amazing people who have found a spiritual home in Christ the King. I can t wait to meet you all. I consider my life and my vocation as a Passionist the biggest blessing ever; and I want this blessing to be shared and experienced by everyone I meet in life. May the passion of Jesus Christ be always in our hearts. Pictures of Our Dearly Departed at the Offertory Table You may notice a picture of a recently deceased parishioner placed on the Offertory gift table in front of the baptistery. Tom Nelson, a parishioner, made this wonderful suggestion to inform the OLA community when a member of our congregation has passed away. Please keep the deceased and his or her family in our prayers during this difficult time.
