3 Uplifting Reflections FROM OUR PASTOR The Feast of the Most Holy Sacrament Today the Church celebrates the Feast of the Most Holy Sacrament of the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ. The Lord gave us this memorial of His Paschal Sacrifice on Holy Thursday, the night before He died, because the next day the Church celebrates Good Friday. A somber occasion the Church pauses to celebrate and meditate on this great gift of Christ s love after Easter. It is the Sacrament of Christ s love He gave Himself to be the Bread of eternal life and Our Passover from sin and death to love and eternal life. Share with Your Child the Joy of Giving Loyola Press Ministry Parents can support their children's spiritual growth by giving them opportunities to put aside their own needs and give to others. Not only will it strengthen personal self esteem, kids will recognize the true joy of helping those in need. Have you tried these ways to share the joy of giving? 1. Involve your kids in giving decisions. Explain to your children what portion of your family budget goes toward charity and helping others. Get them involved in deciding which causes to support. 2. Make giving to others a given. Studies show that most generous adults had parents who also showed generosity, so be sure that helping others in need is something that your family simply does as a matter of course. 3. Maintain a balance between giving and receiving. Make sure that your children see examples of giving and receiving within the family. Both sides are important for balanced personal development. 4. Share your own needs with your child. Depending on the age of the child, it s O.K. to occasionally say, I need some help today. I would appreciate it if you took on some of my usual chores. Then be specific about what the child can do and how he or she can do it. 5. Teach them to offer it up. The spiritual practice of offering it up is simply the exercise of offering one s difficulties and sufferings for the good of others. For example, your child might offer up their prayer on the stress of a major exam to someone who is sick or needs help. If they turn difficulties of the day into a prayer for others in need instead of themselves, it s a valuable lesson in giving, solidarity, and love. 6. Exercise your faith in God s providence. Generosity is an attitude toward life. It presupposes the faith that God will provide and the conviction that as we have been given, so we should give. I hunger for the bread of God, the flesh of Jesus Christ...; I long to drink of his blood, the gift of unending love. St. Ignatius of Antioch

Dinner and Mass Fellowship Night Every 3 rd Sunday of the month join us to break bread in the youth room, attend Mass together, and experience our faith through prayers and worship. There will be a light dinner in the youth room from 6:30pm to 7:15pm followed by attendance at the 7:30pm Mass. Help to participate in the Mass by greeting, ushering, bringing up the gifts, and reading. This evening is for youth in grades RSVP is not required. OLA Youth Choir and Ensemble (Grades 3-12) All parish and school children grades 3-12 are invited to participate in these activities. We are looking for both singers and instrumentalists. Practices are from 6:00-6:55pm on Wednesday evenings in the church. 6 Opportunities to Serve, Learn & Live your Faith Vocations Cross Prayer Campaign OLA has a Vocations Cross Prayer Campaign. Each week, a family will take home the Vocations Cross. During their week, they commit to praying for an increase in vocations to the priesthood and religious life, as well as for our priests, seminarians, and religious in the Diocese of Sacramento. The cross will then be returned to the parish the following Friday, and presented to a new family at the Mass they normally attend. If you purchase fireworks for a July 4 th celebration, please consider purchasing Scrip in the school front office (open mornings only in June). The scrip is $20 each. OLA receives 15% back from all sales. The Knights of Columbus sponsors a fireworks booth located in the St. Ignatius parking lot. The booth is open from June 28 through July 4 (9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.). The Knights of Columbus use the money they make towards 8th grade scholarships. You can purchase Scrip any time during school hours. Thanks for your support! Our Lady of the Assumption Parish invites you to consider our electronic giving program, ParishPay, as a way to automate your regular weekly offerings. Electronic giving is convenient for you and provides muchneeded consistency for our church. There is no cost for you to participate. If you are currently giving on a weekly basis, you will no longer need to write out 52 checks a year or prepare 52 envelopes. And when travel, illness or other circumstances prevent you from attending services, this program will allow your weekly offerings to continue on an uninterrupted basis.
