A special thank you goes out to those who served in the background with childcare, meal preparation, snacks, meeting prep, and facilitation, so the rest of us could participate. We look forward to sharing with our applicants that we are a church who is seeking to enlarge the Kingdom by engaging in relationships for the purpose of equipping believers and evangelizing the world with the Gospel. The team started accepting applications on May 3. As you are reading this we will most likely have received around one hundred. God has blessed us and challenged us at the same time. We are humbled that so many would consider becoming our pastor and now challenged to find the needle in the haystack. The good news is God knows exactly what the needle looks like and where it is. Continue to pray that we will recognize His man when we are introduced to him. We also ask you to pray for the men who have sent us their information for consideration. They represent a variety of backgrounds, ages range from twenty-somethings to sixty-somethings, some have doctorates, some have years of experience, some are seeking a first- time senior pastorate, the diversity is quite interesting. However, each is a man who has followed God s call to shepherd His Church and is seeking God s will and direction. He is seeking the place where he can serve the Lord joyfully and bear much fruit. This is an anxious time for each man and his family. Pray with us for these men. We are asking for patience with the process, fruitful ministry in his current situation, God s peace that passes understanding, and eventually each serving in the place prepared for him by our gracious God. Thank you for your prayer support. We are pleased with the progress. We are working well as a team and have witnessed God leading us step by step from one task to another. We don t have a lot of experience searching for a senior pastor and sometimes find ourselves asking, What s the next step? God has faithfully provided the people and other resources to keep us moving forward without delay. That s because you are praying. KEEP IT UP! 4 Volume, Issue Page 4 Worship Ministry It s coming this summer A Bible Study designed for everyone in the church to participate in together! Starting June 3 we will take Sunday nights and do something different than we do during the rest of the year. Instead of walking in the doors of the church and then splitting to multiple different areas of the building to be with people who are mostly like us, we are going to do life together. We want this summer to be a time where family time and church time intersect. Where we open God s word together and spend some time growing as a family and not just as individuals. Before that starts, I want to address a couple of questions that have been asked about this particular study 1. Is this just for people with kids? The answer to this one is NO. When we say a family Bible Study, we mean the church family. The hope and goal for these Sunday nights is that the various ages and groups within our church would have an opportunity to spend time getting to know each other and learn from each other. So whether you are Single, Married with 6 kids, have grandkids older than me, or are somewhere between in this list, you are invited and encouraged to come and participate! 2. What are we actually doing? We will be studying God s word together! We will have a time of worshipping in song together, some interactive games and activities, some time studying God s Word, some time discussing God s Word, and some time spent in prayer over what we studied and for each other. The idea behind this study is to be flexible enough to be a little bit different each week while maintaining some specific elements of worship, Bible study, and fellowship together. The theme of the study is Not Mere Humans and each week we will tie our study and activities to a different Super Hero from comic books. The theme and activities will reflect aspects of that hero s powers or character, but the Bible Study will focus us into how we can live lives empowered by the Holy Spirit to serve God each and every day. 3. What about our youngest kids? We are going to have nursery available for the very youngest. Our hope is that you would bring your 3,4, and 5 year olds, elementary age kids, youth kids, adult kids with you and allow them to experience the worship, study, and fellowship together with you. We have nursery for the very youngest because we understand that they would not really be able to participate with what is going on. 4. Will I get behind or feel lost if I cannot attend every week? No. The goal and design of this study is to have the overarching theme throughout the summer, but for each week to stand on its own. We understand that Summer is a busy time for many people in the church, and that there will be weeks when you cannot participate. We want this study to be such that you can be here when you can be here and enjoy it without feeling like you missed out from the week before. (that being said, feel free to arrange your vacations and other times of business in such a way as to be able to participate each week. It will be worth it!) If you have a question that I didn t answer above, please give me a call here at the church and I would be happy to visit with you! Looking forward to studying together this summer!

5 Volume, Issue Page 5 Bridging Gaps If you have not yet heard the vision behind our Youth Ministries name, in a nutshell we are about helping Bridge gaps that we believe exist in the lives of teens. First and foremost, we want to help Bridge the gap between them and God by introducing them to a relationship with Jesus. Secondarily, though we hope to Bridge gaps in their earthly relationships. One of these gaps that we believe has existed for too long is between the teenage believer and the rest of the Body of Christ. For many, the view of youth ministry is that of an island, rather than a Bridge. It s a place to send these youthful, rambunctious, hormone-crazed converts until they grow up and are ready for Big Church. We believe that the Bible has much to say about the younger learning from the older (1 Peter 5:1-5 for example) and vice versa (1 Timothy 4:12). We are attempting to make major strides on this front over the course of this summer. Here are two big efforts that I would like for you to pray about and participate in: Not Mere Humans Sunday Nights 5pm starting June 3 rd. During this summer study, we will be learning together with everyone (ages 3-103) about why Paul tells the church of Corinth that they should stop living like mere humans. We are going to take a look at some of our favorite Super Heroes and see how, as believers, we can have much in common with them. Please make plans to join us and bring your whole family as well! (Childcare is provided for 3 and under.) VBS and VBS Training Our high school students will also be interacting with the rest of the church by serving as leaders in our Vacation Bible School. This will allow them to serve our younger members and attenders while working arm-in-arm with the rest of our church body. This might be a great opportunity for you to get to know some of them better. If you have not yet signed up to serve in this ministry, I would highly encourage you to do so today. VBS is happening July 15-19; and training for it will be happening on Wednesdays at 6:15 starting May 30. Hope to see you there! As you can see this summer will offer ample opportunities for you to get to know our students better, and be a part of growing alongside them in discipleship of our Lord Jesus. Let s Go Team! ~ Todd

8 Volume, Issue Page 8 A Summer of Missions at FSBC A goal of $5000 has been set for the summer mission offering, named the Bill Koehn Mission Offering in honor of Bill Koehn, who with his wife Marty, were members of FSBC Liberal, when God called them to Yemen. He had served for nearly 30 years when in 2002 a gunman smuggled a rifle into the Jibla Baptist Hospital where Bill was hospital administrator, killing three IMB personnel, including Bill. His family stated. "He was committed to serving God and the people of Yemen. One of his greatest joys was making toy cars for children in the local orphanage. He died doing what he was called to do." You may find a longer article about Bill and Marty Koehn on the mission bulletin board. The Bill Koehn Mission Offering funds go to many different causes, including "Journey to the Cross Rodeo Bible Camp," "Freedom Crossroads Bible Camp" held at Camp Gibson for inner city children from Oklahoma City, and participation in supplying Bibles for LHS graduates. Funds will be used for the summer outreach events this summer, such as movie nights on June 1 and July 13, the Liberal Rec Department's Night Out for the City on June 29, and the annual Bee Jays' 4th of July event. All of these events will provide opportunities for us to share the love of Jesus to our community. Also in our Summer Mission News, a team will be traveling to Port-au-Prince, Haiti from June where they will be working in various capacities at Christian Light School. Wayne Melanson, Jimmy Hampton, Bryan Belew, Caleb Ediger, Cindy Adams, and Amanda Collins will make up the construction crew. They will be hiring young Haitians who will work alongside them, learning electrical, carpentry, and repair skills that will provide training for future employment. In addition to the construction crew, Tammy Belew will be teaching and Aubrey Ediger will be helping with the baby feeding program. Please remember the Haiti Mission Team in your daily prayers that they will travel safely, stay healthy, be a blessing to the children and staff of Christian Light School, and be encouraged by the wonderful things that are happening at CLS. Pray also for the FSBC Summer Outreach Events and that there will be sufficient funds given to the Bill Koehn Mission Offering. Saratoga Springs Sending Kindness to Haiti Saturday, June 9 11:30 1:30 p.m. for lunch at Annelise Smith home 2148 Rock Ridge Street Saturday, June 9 ~ Backyard Lunch ~ "Sending Kindness to Haiti" (and Utah!) Join us for lunch, 11:30-1:30, in Annelise Smith's backyard, 2148 Rockridge. We will focus on Haiti--a bit of history, some facts about Haiti, and an update on Christian Light School. We will hear from the women who will be part of the Mission Team to Port-au-Prince in June: Cindy Adams, Tammy Belew, and Amanda Collins. (Aubrey Ediger will not be in Liberal yet.) We will also hear from Kaitlyn Regier as she tells us about her mission trip to Saratoga Springs, Utah in July, when she will be leading soccer activities at Youth Sports Camp that is an outreach of Greenhouse Church for Latter Day Saints youth. If you have been to Haiti on previous mission trips during the past ten or so years, please join us and participate in the discussion. Help us support these five ladies with our prayers, interest, and encouragement! Please sign up at the Welcome Center if you will be able to attend!
