1 Corinth Baptist Church The Church That Loves September 2018 Newsletter Homecoming - Sunday, September 16 September THE PASTORS PAGE September is upon us and we look forward to both cooler weather and the many opportunities to serve the Lord Jesus and to have fellowship one with another. We start off our calendar with a Freshman Breakfast on Sunday morning September 2 nd at 9:00 AM. Continuing through the month, we have Baptism and the Lords Supper scheduled for Sunday AM service on September 9 th. Also, please keep in mind and begin to invite others for our Homecoming Service on September 16 th. Our Homecoming offering will be designated to our future building fund project. August saw a continuing of the revival experience and several more individuals have made professions of faith and many have rededicated their lives in one fashion or the other. The Holy Spirit is moving in an unprecedented way at Corinth Baptist Church and we give GOD ALL THE GLORY. The church has adopted the plans for our new sanctuary space affirmative vote. The next step is in process of investigating the best and most appropriate way of funding the project. It will again be a step by step process that is bathed in prayer. The church will be advised of all activities and recommendations during the process. Again, I will reiterate, as your pastor, I assure you that we will seek only Gods direction in this matter. We will do only what He directs. I personally am very excited about the future and what this new facility can do for
2 our overall ministry to the people of the area and to be a preparation place for service to the uttermost parts of the earth. Our three new deacons have assumed their duties and the three you have chosen are Todd Peterson, Dustin Jackson, and newly ordained Barry Boney. We received testimonies from our youth and their leaders about the experiences at South Mountain Baptist Youth Camp during the week of July 8 th thru July 13 th. Our Youth participated in mission activities and worship experiences geared to their interest and they have had a change of both hearts and minds. We also heard from Isabella Rumbold about her trip to South Africa and visiting the girls orphanage and seeing first- hand how many of the people have so little, yet seem so happy. I would remind you of our ministry of visitation and outreach. Please see Brother Anthony Teachey with questions and details of this ministry. Please remember our Appalachian Christmas Outreach and be willing to stuff a back pack with the items needed. A list has been inserted in the bulletin and if you need an additional one, please contact the church office. Also, Christmas is coming and along with that will be our efforts for the shoe box ministry of Samaritans Purse. Please contact Amy Peterson and ask her what you can do to assist. All of our existing ministries of Meet me at the Bridge and our Philippines Children Ministry are doing well with good involvement. Sister Allison Cavenaugh is the contact for MMATB and Bother Earl Brinkley is our contact for PCM. Crossover Ministry has started a new outreach with the gym being a center of influence. All games are preceded by prayer and at mid-point, there is a gospel message presented to all in attendance. This includes players, families and friends. It is a requirement to attend if one is to participate in playing the game. I had the great opportunity to bring the first message and I was overwhelmed at the attention and response that the message received that night. Due to having a gym we are being allowed to minister to many that otherwise may have no real contact with the church or even the people of God. If you have question or would like to participate, please contact Brother Tony Horne. As you may have noted, each Sunday morning our people are welcome to the altar to pray as we begin our worship. I thank you for the reverence that you are showing during that time and encourage you to engage in prayer as well. It may at the altar or in your seat, but please pray. Again, I humbly thank each of you for your love and support. It is a great honor to be your pastor and friend. Please continue to pray for us as we seek to serve Him by serving you. In Christ, Philip Eakins, Pastor

Meet Me at the Bridge- September A very interesting thing happened at the Bridge this past month. My friend Nell and I had just finished setting up some tables when a lady hurriedly approached us. We knew she desperately needed something by the look on her face. She began by saying, We need someone to pray for us. We have an audition. By we, she was referring to she and her boyfriend. She then turned and motioned for him to join us. Nell and I began talking with her to better understand her situation. What kind of audition was she preparing for? When I asked her this question, she said, Audition? I didn t say audition. I said addiction! When she said that, you could have knocked us over with a feather! Not that we were surprised that someone under the Bridge would have an addition. I m sure that s a common problem. What shocked us was that she would come so boldly up to us and ask for prayer. That she would not try to hide her problem but bring it into the open and ask for help. My question to myself was, why did this shock us so much? As I ve pondered this whole situation, I think it may be that within the church, so much of the time, we try to mask our problems. We don t want anyone to know that we have a problem of any kind. But isn t it a little strange that a lady on the streets, would come so willingly, so desperately seeking help from the only true source of help. She came humbly seeking help from our Lord and Savior through prayer, when we, as the body of Christ, so often try to work things out ourselves. I
6 think we all could learn a lesson from this lady. I sure did. I think I m going to serve others at the Bridge and I always come back with a lesson or encouragement for myself. I love Romans 8:35 and 37. Can anything ever separate us from Christ s love? Does it mean he no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or hungry, or destitute, or in danger, or threatened with death? No, despite all these things overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us. In Service to Him, Allison Meet Me at the Bridge On Oct. 20, 2018 we will host a fun day at the Bridge. A day for our homeless friends to just relax and, for a few hours, forget about their struggles. We want to share the good news of Jesus Christ to the poor, to proclaim that captives will be released, the blind will see, the oppressed will be set free, that the time of the Lord s favor has come. Luke 4: Our theme is Fall into the Arms of Jesus. We want them to know who Jesus is and what He has done for us. He is our Savior, Deliverer, Restorer, Redeemer, Healer, our Peace, our Strength, our Hope, etc. We want the homeless of Durham to experience Jesus in a way they never have before. This event will be set up sort of like an old school fair but suited to fit their needs. We will play a few games like corn hole. We will have a cookout provided by a church from the Durham area. We will have booths to provide for their needs. They will include: 1- Toiletry items 2- Food items 3- Socks and underwear 4- Clothes and shoes 5- Blood pressure checks 6- Children s activities, balloon twists, crafts 7- Back packs and sleeping bags 8- Haircuts, hand massages, nail painting 9- Popcorn and drinks One special booth we will have is a Prayer Booth. The homeless folks have lots of issues and concerns and we want to make available a time of prayer with them. Prayer is powerful and changes things! This booth will also have a prayer wall or board where they can write their prayer requests down and attach them to the wall/board. We plan to have a time of prayer over these concerns and then ask each of our volunteers to take one of their prayer requests home to continue to pray over them. Also, this booth will have Bibles and reading glasses available to whomever needs them. **Our greatest need is for our people to pray for all areas of this event and for the people who will attend. We want only God s will done! This event needs to be bathed in prayer and every member can participate in this way. We want to see God move among the people at the Bridge and change lives forever! **Our second greatest need is for volunteers. This is a much larger undertaking that our usual trip to Durham to serve. It cannot happen without your help! If you would like to work in any particular area, please contact Allison. Thank you in advance for all your help. ** Donations- many items have already been donated but we still lack a few things. We ll also have a time for special prizes to be given and a time of singing. If you would like to donate items to be given, have a special talent you would like to share, or if you would be willing to volunteer in any area, please contact Allison Cavenaugh. ( ). We are open to other ideas or suggestions. Everything we do during this event will be centered around The Gospel s message of hope and salvation. No activities will take place until the message and a time of invitation is given. Please join us and help to make this a GREAT day at the Bridge!
