2 Food Pantry News HOURS: Wednesdays from 2 pm 3 pm AND The last Saturday of every month from 12 noon 2 pm Due to the great response to our Lenten food drive, our pantry is currently in need of toiletries, household items and paper products like toilet paper, and paper towels. Since many children are home for the summer and not receiving school lunches, you may also consider donating juice boxes, kid cereals, and other kinds of snacks. Wednesday Night Suppers Wednesday night suppers will resume on Wednesday, August 26. We are always looking for new cooks and hostesses. Contact Kristi Forister and get on the calendar! Flood Relief Report Oxford has contributed $ to the Rio Texas Conference s flood relief efforts. We have had one flood bucket completed and turned in so far. Please consider having your Sunday School Class or ministry group participate in filling a flood bucket. Item lists are available in the narthex. We ask for continued prayers for all those affected by the recent floods Women s Retreat The 2015 Women s Retreat Garden Getaway is scheduled for September at the Haven River Inn in Comfort, TX. Be sure to sign up soon! Our retreats are known for laughter, tears, worshipping, shopping and lots of fun! Come and enjoy some time away with your sisters in Christ! For more information, contact Kristi Forister at kristi@oxfordumc.org Senior Meals Program Our Senior Meals group is now meeting in the church narthex (foyer/lobby). We have re-located for the summer months due to the YMCA Summer Camp. The group is open to any Senior (60+). We enjoy a light lunch and fellowship together. We are now watching movies (Movie Mondays) playing cards (Winners Wednesdays) and we will have some health and wellness activities as well (Fitness & Fellowship Fridays). For more information, contact Michelle Carey in the church office. Church Council Summer Session A Church Council Summer Session Meeting is scheduled for Saturday, July 11 at 10 am in the narthex. All council members and church staff are urged to attend. We will do some follow-up on our 2015 planning session and we will highlight summer and fall events. For more information contact the church office. From the Trustees The church continues to struggle to get professional support for plumbing, roofing, electrical, professional painting and other skill sets we need to get work done that is not available with volunteer help. If any of the church members work in these areas and are willing to support, let the Trustees and Sandra Peterson know if/when you can be available. If you do not have one of these skill sets but work with people who do and they are willing to do this kind of work, let us know. The church facilities need a lot of work. Anything you can do in these areas; support or can help with the identification of those who can, please help. Larry Riley, Oxford Trustees

3 Pastor s Perspective Recently in the course of some sermon preparation I looked through the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5-7) to find the various moral qualities Jesus talked about or mentioned. I isolated thirty-two of them. The list is below. Perhaps you might want to do a couple of things. One, you might want to look through the list and see which apply to you and which you might need to work on. Two, you might want to look through the Sermon on the Mount and find which verses apply to which quality. I perhaps have misapplied a scripture. humility, gentleness, sadness at wrongdoing, hunger for righteousness, mercy, pureness of heart, being a peacemaker, willingness to suffer for Christ, adding zest to people s lives, being a light for Jesus, law-abiding, seriously righteous, able to control one s temper, readiness to make peace, faithfulness to one s spouse, truthfulness, not vengeful, kindness to sinners, willingness to help those who don t deserve it, loving toward one s enemies, not being a religious show-off, forgiving, not controlled by money, clear-sightedness, calmness, being non-judgmental, respectful of holy things, prayerful, imaginatively loving, discerning, non-hypocritical, wise. Much love, Pastor John Sand Dollar The sand dollar lies on the shore by the sea Awaiting discovery by you And by me Put there by God Before time began, To promote His great And eternal plan, Of peace on earth And good will toward man. Inside the shell are five little doves, The universal symbol, of peace and love. By Sarah Walker Oxford Member

KEEP IT LIT!! KEEP IT LIT! For all of our other military personnel, where ever they may be. Please Support all of the troops defending our country. And God Bless our Military who are protecting our Country for our Freedom. Thanks to them, and their sacrifices, we can celebrate the 4th of July. We must never forget who gets the credit for the freedoms we have, of which we should be eternally grateful. I watched the flag pass by one day. It fluttered in the breeze. A young Marine saluted it, And then he stood at ease. I looked at him in uniform; so young, so tall, so proud. With hair cut square and eyes alert, he'd stand out in any crowd. I thought how many men like him had fallen through the years. How many died on foreign soil; how many mothers' tears? How many pilots' planes shot down? How many died at sea? How many foxholes were soldiers' graves? NO, FREEDOM ISN'T FREE! I heard the sound of Taps one night, when everything was still. I listened to the bugler play And felt a sudden chill. I wondered just how many times That Taps had meant 'Amen.' When a flag had draped a coffin of a brother or a friend. I thought of all the children, of the mothers and the wives, of fathers, sons and husbands With interrupted lives. I thought about a graveyard at the bottom of the sea. Of unmarked graves in Arlington. NO FREEDOM ISN'T FREE Enjoy Your Freedom and God Bless Our Troops.
