MISSION APPEAL ~ JULY 14-15 FOR KABALE DIOCESE-UGANDA Next weekend, Fr. Martin Mwongyera will be speaking at each Mass about the Mission Appeal for Kabale Diocese-Uganda.

The diocese boarders Rwanda on the south west and the Democratic Republic of Congo on the western side, and serves a population of 1,500,000 people, of whom approximately 700,000, are Roman Catholic.

2 MISSION APPEAL ~ JULY FOR KABALE DIOCESE-UGANDA Next weekend, Fr. Martin Mwongyera will be speaking at each Mass about the Mission Appeal for Kabale Diocese-Uganda. Kabale is one of the 19 dioceses of Uganda, situated in the rural extreme southwestern corner of the country about 280 miles from the capital city (Kampala). The diocese boarders Rwanda on the south west and the Democratic Republic of Congo on the western side, and serves a population of 1,500,000 people, of whom approximately 700,000, are Roman Catholic. They are seeking assistance toward construction of the children s ward, labor & delivery unit, and emergency room at Rushoroza Health Center for the rural poor and also the long-term Kabale Diocese Orphaned and Vulnerable Children Program which currently supports 386 children out of well over 20,000 greatly in need of help. What is going on at the Friary Fr. Joe? I am glad you asked me that. In the last few months the 75 friars connected to Mount Saint Francis have elected a new Minister Provincial, Fr. Wayne Hellman, our boss, and held important meetings and reissued assignments for the next four years. Fr. Conrad Sutter has departed St. Anthony Friary, along with Abe his faithful bird, for a brief assignment helping in the Lexington Diocese and then in January he will be moving onto a more permanent assignment. Fr. Thomas Merrill has moved out of our friary and is helping with a matter involving our friars near Mount Saint Francis. He will be moving to Carey, Ohio in early August to become the Pastor of the parish and Rector of the Shrine of Our Lady of Consolation. That leaves four of us at the friary for the time being: Fr. Mark Weaver will be arriving here in August and will be taking Fr. Tom s place as pastor of St. Mary in New Albany. Fr. Robert St. Martin will continue living here and as pastor of St. Mary Lanesville. Fr. Florian will continue living here and help at St. Anthony and local nursing homes. I, your unworthy servant, have been reassigned to the friary and parish for another four years as well. If I complete this term I will have been Pastor for 12 years, tying Fr. Mathias Schnieders ( ) for second place after the longest serving pastor: Fr. Oderic Auer who served St. Anthony Parish for 15 years, from May God bless us, every one! St. Anthony has a young adult (19-39) bible study and activities group that meets the first and third Wednesdays of every month in the Parlor at 6:30 pm.
