Joe At the Easter Vigil Saturday evening we celebrated the mother of all Masses, the one where up to seven Old Testament readings can be proclaimed (we read five) each with its own responsorial psalm before the epistle and Gospel. The Mass begins in darkness and the Paschal candle, the Light of Christ, enters the church along with the lit candles of the baptized and the darkness is overcome. We baptized three adults and three children, and another previously baptized adult was received into full communion with the Catholic Church. Our new members are: James Joseph Davis, Jay & Jessica Conner and their two children Miles and Sadie, as well as Amber Adams and her granddaughter Abigail. They have been a joy to work with in the RCIA program over the past seven months. I find it noteworthy that all of them have joined us due to their experiencing our parish through the ministry of our school. W from Fr. Joe The Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning system (HVAC) in the church is being replaced beginning this Monday, April 2nd with the removal from the boiler room of the old equipment. The main electrical power equipment for the building will be replaced as well. The church is 47 years old and this equipment is all original and obsolete by today s standards. The new HVAC system will be the most efficient available today. The main fan will have a variable speed motor, it will be quieter and should provide a more consistently comfortable environment. This project will take a month or more and we will be without heat or A/C during April. Your patience is much appreciated. The cost will be approximately $300,000. The good news is we have the money. This project was nearly started five years ago but I halted it at the time because it was going to take more than half of what we had in our savings account and I thought it best to limp along with the old system rather than risk cash flow problems. Now our situation is different. We have over $700,000 in savings and the church has an Endowment fund worth over $300,000 which did not exist five years ago. This project is exactly why we have a savings account. Please keep doing what you are doing! Your regular and faithful contributions and stewardship allow us to avoid capital campaigns and the drama that goes with them. May God continue to bless our parish and all its members. Second collections at Mass are not enjoyable for anyone. They are an awkward interruption of our prayer. You may have noticed that the only time we will have a second collection here is when the bishop tells us to do so; like when some pressing disaster relief is needed. This does not dismiss our obligation to contribute to the various works of the Catholic Church in our country and beyond. I ask you to place your special contribution envelopes in the one Sunday Collection taken up during the offertory. Using the special envelopes or clearly marking the purpose of your donation allows them to be separated and accounted for properly. Last fiscal year our parish sent out over $29,000 for the various needs of the larger Church, but I know we can do better this year. Next weekend, our parish will take up a collection for the Solidarity Fund for the Church in Africa. While the Church in Africa is growing, many still lack access to basic resources and pastoral care and are challenged by high rates of poverty and unemployment, illiteracy, and poor education. This fund supports pastoral projects that strengthen their faith and foster lasting peace and reconciliation on a continent often marked by division and tension.

The clinic will be held at Blackiston Bowl on April 15, April 22, May 13, and May 20. Times are as follows: K-2nd grade 1:00-2:00 pm; 3rd-5th grade 2:15-3:15 pm; 6th-8th grade 3:30-4:30 pm.
