2 Reverend s Ramblings This has been my first newsletter article since April. Since then, I ve had a chance to thumb the canvas of my life and ministry. There are things that don t matter to me anymore. Other things matter more than ever. Things like criticism, gossip and getting my feelings hurt just seem to bounce off these days. In the past I just wanted to be liked by people and it has dawned on me that I wasn't doing anyone a favor by having this attitude. It wasn t helping the church, it wasn t helping Christ and worst of all, it wasn t helping me. Things got way off track and now I am able to see things, as the Apostle Paul writes in I Corinthians 13, face to face. It is time in the life of Calvary to put away childish things and work toward the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. (and I m not talking about the afterlife ) We all have a calling to bring a little bit of heaven here on earth to balance the scales for the oppressed and disenfranchised to love the unlovely and to include the outcasts and those marginalized by social stigma. I still like to be childish once in a while, but there are times when we have to look at the world with serious intention. We tend to get sidetracked by who s dating Taylor Swift or who s in first place on So You Think You Can Dance. We get so preoccupied with what the president Twittered or what NFL team is dropping a knee. Right now, your consistory is planning to rein in the ministry teams at Calvary to discover the best and most effective ways to serve the congregation and the Crestline community. A new Missions and Evangelism team is being brought together to alleviate suffering, both at home, and in far away places. One of the US Protectorates, Puerto Rico, has been blown into the stone age and the state department seems to be sitting on their hands or twiddling their thumbs. At Calvary, the Stewardship and Finance teams are working in tandem to learn how to handle offerings, bequests and existing funds and how they can best serve the needs of Calvary and the area around us. Christian Education is trying new methods to best serve in educating adults and children. The Lay Life team is working with Christian Education to bring activities to Calvary that will enhance and benefit the struggling souls of Crestline. Time is of the essence. The urgency of the hour is made clear. There is no time to argue petty points of personal preference. Now is the time to work in synch. Your pastor, Gary Proietti 2
3 CALVARY COMPASS October, 2017 Sunday School News A Rally Day balloon launch also launched Calvary s Sunday School program. Calvary s kids will be Looking for Kindness this Sunday School year. An adult elective class with Faith will be meeting in the fellowship lounge. They will be discussing The Parables of Jesus and their impact on our lives today. The Open Door Class with Carolyn is meeting in the library. Bible lessons on the Covenants with God will be studied this year. Spirit Rocks! Have you found a Spirit Rock? Our Calvary Kids have been painting and hiding rocks all over town. Keep an eye our for them. If you find one take a picture of the rock, post it to the FB Group Northeast Ohio Rocks and take it with you to re-hide somewhere else. (You can also bring in or a picture to the office so we can share with the kids that a rock has been found). Let s see how far our spirit can travel. The rocks painted by our kids will have the (hashtag) #CalvarySpiritRocks this way our kids can track how far their lovely rocks travel. Would you like to paint your own? Just follow these simple steps: 1. Start with a clean, dry rock. 2. Paint or use permanent markers to create your work of art. 3. Let dry completely. 4. Attach a tag with your hashtag (so it can be tracked on FB) using modge podge. Let dry completely 5. Coat in 2 coats of clear sealant/ spray paint to protect your work from the weather. 6. Hide your rock to be found by someone else and spread the fun. 3
