One or both persons must be registered and actively living their faith at St. Mary s Church for at least 6 months to celebrate their wedding here. All couples planning to be married at our parishes must attend a Pre-Cana program, Natural Family Planning program and FOCCUS evaluation. For those who were former members here, they must be registered and actively living their faith at the parish where they reside. Sacrament of Baptism: Baptisms are celebrated during Mass on Saturdays & Sundays (not during Lent or Advent). A family must be registered & actively living their faith at St. Mary s Church for 6 months to assure faith will be shared with the new born child. Godparents must also be registered in a Catholic parish or other Christian church & actively living their faith. A Baptism Class is held and is required for all parents. We ask that both parents attend this class together. Godparents are also encouraged and welcome to attend. For more information, please call the parish office ( ). Courses for all Catholics - University of Dayton Online Learning - Sign up for the online courses through the Virtual Learning Community for Faith Formation (VLCFF), a program of the Institute for Pastoral Initiatives at the University of Dayton. These adult faith formation courses support the Church's catechetical ministry and are for all Catholics. Registration for Cycle 7 opens Sept. 5, 2018 and closes Oct. 17, The courses run Oct. 21 Nov. 24, 2018 at a cost of $50 per course/$40 per seminar. Ron Hilt Trip to Italy..Padua to Rome-- Fr. Chuck will be leading a pilgrimage to Italy next summer, June 12th to June 22nd, Leave on June 12th to arrive and Celebrate our parish feast day of St. Anthony of Padua with mass at the Cathedral of St. Anthony, Padua following by a Feast day dinner. We will then spend nine days traveling to and enjoying Venice, Florence, Assisi, and Rome. We will tour many famous sites such as St. Peter s Basillica, the Vatican Museums, Sistine Chapel, Trevi Fountain, Paantheon, Colosseum, The Benedictine Abbey of Monte Casino, built in 529. We will see the Basillica of St. Mark s in Venice, the Basillicas of St. Francis and St. Clare in Assisi, and many other famous spots. Family Connection John 18:33b-37 Understanding today s feast of Christ the King may be particularly challenging. While most of us do not have direct experience with kings or royalty, we have a sense of who they are. We know that royalty have sovereignty over their kingdoms. We know that those who are subjects to royalty offer them allegiance and honor. To understand how Christ is our king, we extend and magnify what we know to be true of the best of human royalty. Christ s kingship extends to all places, all people, and all times. Christ manifests his kingship through his death on the cross in which he offered salvation to everyone. Those who can see with eyes of faith recognize Jesus to be our heavenly king. As you gather as a family, recall that this Sunday is the last Sunday in the Church year and on this Sunday we celebrate the feast of Christ the King. Talk together about what it means to be a king or queen. How do those who are subjects behave toward royalty? Invite children to role-play what one does in the presence of royalty. Read today s Gospel, John 18:33b-37. Ask your family to discuss these questions: Does Pilate treat Jesus like royalty? (No.) What does Jesus say about his kingdom? (It is not of this world.) Talk about how your family shows honor and obedience to Christ our King. Pray together the Lord s Prayer and ask God to help your family act in ways that show you recognize and honor Christ as King. Weekly Offering..Nov. 18, 2018 Adults Children Loose Justice/Hope Cemetery All Saints Total..$ Dear Friends, Once again we are asking you to please keep our 8 year old son, Rory in your prayers. The doctors have been trying to locate the brain fluid leak he was experiencing and they finally did so by MRI. However, they found much more than expected and Rory will be undergoing MAJOR surgery this coming Tuesday, November 27 at Cardinal Glennon Children's Hosptial, St. Louis. It was found that he has many tears in his brain and the covering of the brain. Part of his brain is currently protruding down into his nose. The surgery will be similar to the one he WAS going to have in October but it will actually be EVEN MORE EXTENSIVE. He will have an incision from ear to ear and the doctors will try to fix everything that is leaking, operate on his brain, cut off dead parts that are protruding, and drill out his nasal passage and fill it back in with bone. They will also take fat from his stomach to fill in any gaps. Plates and screws will be inserted to hold everything in place. Needless to say Rory will be in the Intensive Care Unit for quite sometime afterwards. We want to say thank you ahead of time because you ALL have been so good to our family and we KNOW you will storm heaven with your fervent prayers for our little Rory. With Hope & Thankful Hearts, The Josh & Timber Miller Family KEEP CHRIST IN CHRISTMAS POSTER CONTEST AND AWARDS CEREMONY The Effingham Knights of Columbus will once again conduct a Keep Christ in Christmas Poster Contest. There are 4 divisions by ages as of November 1: 4 and under, 5 to 7, 8 to 10 and 11 to 14. If your child would like to participate, please contact Greg Koester at (217) to obtain the entry form. The winners of these divisions will advance to higher levels of competition. The deadline for submission is the week of December 3. There will be an awards ceremony for the Contest winners at 6:30 p.m. on December 19 prior to the Council meeting. EVERYONE IS INVITED TO ATTEND. The Council will offer Christmas cookies and hot chocolate. YOUTH ACTIVITIES RAFFLE FUNDRAISER The Effingham Knights of Columbus are conducting a raffle fundraiser with proceeds going towards various youth programs such as the Coats for Kids, contest awards, help kids attend March for Life, 5th Grade Vocations Field Trip and the Columbian Squires Circle. Tickets are $5 each or 5 for $20 with only 1000 printed. First prize will be the winner s choice of 1 of 2 firearms or $750. Second prize will be the winner s choice of 1 of 2 firearms or $500 or the prize can be a credit to the firearm of your choice. A valid FOID card is required to claim a firearm. The Grand Prize Drawing is at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, April 12 and the winner does not need to be present. Tickets are available from the officers and a number of members. EFFINGHAM K OF C CHILDRENS CHRISTMAS PARTY For members and prospective members is on December 2 with doors opening at 2:00 p.m. Santa Claus will arrive shortly thereafter. There will be games and refreshments prior to and during Santa s visit. There will be door prizes including a drawing for a girls bicycle and boys bicycle. EFFINGHAM K OF C ADULT CHRISTMAS PARTY For members and prospective members is on DECEMBER 16TH with doors opening at 12:00 p.m. please no kids under 18. Social Hour will be from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. with the meal served at 1:00 p.m. Live music starts at 2:00 p.m. and will play until at least 4:00 p.m. There will also be 50/50 and door prize drawings throughout the afternoon. 2
