Please notify the office by May 6 th with student s full name, school and degree. ========= ELCA NATIONAL YOUTH GATHERING Houston, TX June 26 through July 3, 2018 Pastor Reis and Jacob Drawbaugh will be in Houston for the ELCA National Youth Gathering with youth students from Union Lutheran. Your financial support and/or prayers are greatly appreciated for this ministry Social Hour COORDINATOR - HOSTS Social Hour will continue through May 20 th and then be discontinued during the summer months. We are in need of a volunteer coordinator to help us continue this ENJOYABLE SOCIAL TIME. Beginning in September we will need someone (making coffee, clean up, etc.) to coordinate the weekly social, along with the hosts for the week. 5 The Lutheran Indian Ministries Lutheran Indian Ministries have now started a mission to create missional communities (a small group of Christians about the size of an extended family who work and serve in a particular neighborhood/area Vicar DeLude (Native Hawaiian) is faithfully working to create these communities in Hawaii. He follows the directions of Jesus found in Luke 10:5-6. His goal is to find a door into a new community and locate that person of peace and then build a relationship and start a missional community. Presently Vicar DeLude is working on the island of Oahu. He has a lifetime of acquaintances & associates from his previous work in education and involvement in many organizations. Through the Holy Spirit s guidance, he is praying to locate the right person of peace. Another passion of his is to bring the Gospel to the homeless. Hawaii has the highest rate of homelessness in the country. This is due to the high cost of living. At the present he is focusing on a new camp with about 30 shelters. The plan is to connect with the people of this small community with coffee and prayers to build a Christ-centered community. He chose this camp as he felt it was more manageable for his small team to start to build relationships. The team is praying and staying open-minded to see where God s plan takes them. Vicar Clarence DeLude states, The homeless problem is huge here, but no one is doing any type of ministry in the homeless camps, so that s what we re going to do! Vicar Clarence s big picture in his mind is growing Christ s Kingdom. Please keep him and his people in your prayers. JAMES ANNUAL CHURCH PICNIC The picnic this year will be held at Sunset Lane Park Pavilion at 12 noon on Sunday, June 3 rd, 2018 Worship Service will be at the church at 9:00 a.m. Enjoy an afternoon of food, fun and fellowship! Picnic ticket cost is $7.00 for Pulled Pork BBQ meal and $4.00 for hot dog meal. Tickets will be on sale in the social room after the service on May 13, 20, and 27. Because of the holiday, please get your tickets early. If you'd like to contribute a dessert, please put your name on the sign-up sheet on the Adams St. bulletin board.
