2 ST. EDWARD PARISH, A Pennsylvania Charitable Trust NOVEMBER 18, 2018 HERMINIE, PA THIRTY-THIRD SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME SAT: NOVEMBER 17 6:00pm Frank Pavsek (Anni) (Daughter, Marian) SUN: NOVEMBER 18 9:00am For the Living & Deceased Members of St. Edward Parish MON: NOVEMBER 19 TUE: NOVEMBER 20 WED: NOVEMBER 21 THU: 10:30am NOVEMBER 22 - Thanksgiving Day Jim, Christina & Randy Smith (Family) FRI: NOVEMBER 23 SAT: NOVEMBER 24 6:00pm For the Living & Deceased Members of St. Edward Parish SUN: NOVEMBER 25 - Christ the King 9:00am George Caviggia, Josephine Caviggia & Jen Lavella (Leo & Connie) STEWARDSHIP REFLECTION November 11, 2018 Adult Envelopes (203 donations from 620 families) $4, Teen/Children s (10 donation) $32.00 Loose $ Monthly (7 donations) $ On-Line Giving (28 families) $1, Total $6, Amount budgeted for Weekly Offertory $7, Over / (Under) - ($750.20) Local Flood Relief Collection $1, Thank you for your generosity! We will all have that day when we are standing before God and our life is played out like a movie. When this happens and God asks each of us, What have you done with the gifts that I have given you? How will you respond? Please remember St. Edward Parish in your will. As the liturgical year draws to an end, the church uses the Scriptures to turn the hearts and minds of her people to the life to come. How will we know when the end is coming? We do not know the day or the hour. But we know that in God s own time, when light shines and triumphs over darkness, and when justice and love rules over all, then time as we know it will no longer matter and God s second coming will be upon us. FIRST READING: Daniel s apocalyptic vision portends a time of distress when some will live forever and others will know eternal shame and horror. Those who are wise will emit a bright glow in the sky. Those who lead others to justice will be like eternal stars. Would that our light shine forever in the Lord! You are my inheritance, O Lord! SECOND READING: No other offering is necessary for our sins. Christ the high priest offered his one sacrifice for sins. Now he sits at God s right hand. His one offering did more for us than the daily offerings of every other priest. Through Christ s offering, he has made us perfect forever. He consecrates us and makes us holy. GOSPEL: How ominous, yet hopeful Jesus words to his disciples are! Darkness will follow the tribulation. The Son of Man will come with power and glory to gather his chosen ones from all directions. Both heaven and earth will pass away, but Jesus words will not. Our hope is in the word for it tells of our salvation in Jesus. When all this will take place, we do not know. We must be vigilant each day. FROM FATHER RICHARD Let us give thanks to the Lord our God! This week our Nation celebrates Thanksgiving Day. It is important to recognize the goodness of God by raising our voices in gratitude for our many blessings. The custom of repeating the dinner and menu from the Pilgrim s celebration of the first harvest is uniquely American. We may forget that although things are not as good as we might like there is much to be grateful for. Please join us for Mass on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 22nd. Seven Dolors Church at 9:00am and St. Edward Church at 10:30am.

It is taken from the end of Jesus teaching in Jerusalem immediately preceding the account of his arrest and passion. In it Jesus gives his disciples hope to sustain them through his passion and death and any persecution or suffering that they would encounter after his resurrection. The words from the book of Daniel also provided hope and encouragement to the people of Daniel s time. The encouragement in these scriptures is meant for us as well, for none of us will escape tribulation in our lives. Followers of Jesus will be able to endure suffering with joyful hope, knowing that Christ s love will lead us along the way of discipleship and give us eternal life with God. 5 Bishop Malesic has appointed Deacon John D. Zombar to Diaconal Ministry here at Saint Edward Parish and Holy Family Parish in West Newton. THANKSGIVING ECUMENICAL SERVICE On Tuesday, November 20th, our parish family along with the members of the Herminie United Methodist Church, will join our neighbors at St. Mary s Byzantine Church for a Community Thanksgiving Ecumenical Service at 7:00pm. Parishioners attending are asked to bring non-perishable food items to help the poor and needy in our community. The monetary offering collected that evening will be divided between the 3 churches and our share will be given to the St. Vincent de Paul Society. A social will follow the service. Please plan on attending as we thank God for the many blessings He has bestowed upon all of us. Next Sunday, November 25th at the 9:00am Mass, we will celebrate the first step of the R.C.I.A. This step is called the Rite of Acceptance into the Order of Catechumens (unbaptized) and the Rite of Welcoming the Candidates (baptized Christian). The Vatican Council declares that those who are accepted through these Rites are to be embraced by us, and are to be considered now a part of the household of Christ. We invite our parishioners to remember our Candidate, Tyler Livingston in your prayers. May we all grow as a community during this special time of preparation. A social will follow the Rite of Acceptance and Welcome in Edwardian Hall next Sunday for candidates, sponsors, families and all parishioners. ST. EDWARD JANUARY CALENDAR TICKET Cash prizes of $5000 will be given away during the month of January. Each ticket is $10. A $100 prize this year to the seller of the January 31st ticket. Winning number taken from the First 3 digit PA Daily Lottery at 7:00pm. We are now looking for sellers! Can you take a pack of 10 tickets to sell to your family, friends, colleagues? These make great Stocking Stuffers! All proceeds benefit the church! Please join us next weekend after all Masses in Edwardian Hall as we congratulate and welcome Deacon John Zombar to Diaconal Ministry here in our parish. Refreshments will be available for all parishioners. Our Religious Education students will also be joining us for refreshments before they attend their regularly scheduled class next Sunday. If we were to consider all the Thanksgivings of our lives, past and future, we should especially remember that God is the source of all that is good in our lives, and we should be thankful for the blessings God has bestowed on us. THANKSGIVING DAY MASS - Please join us as we gather in remembrance of God s goodness during this past year on Thursday, November 22nd at 10:30am. BLESSING OF BREAD AND WINE - You are invited to bring your baskets of bread and wine in which you will use for your Thanksgiving meal to church on Thanksgiving Day. Baskets will be blessed at the 10:30am Liturgy. Please place them around the altar before Mass begins. CHRIST THE KING Next Sunday, November 25th marks the last Sunday of the Church year, when we celebrate Jesus our King, who brought to all people a new and freeing kingdom where there is no power or force or borders. So glorious is Jesus Christ our King and so eternal is the Kingdom of God that even the condemning judgments of earthly authority are powerless. In Jesus Christ our King, we are not afraid nor bound. We are peaceful and free. NEW ALTAR SERVER REGISTRATION ALTAR SERVERS NEEDED! Becoming an Altar Server is a very important calling. God is asking for special dedication and service. He also gives help to aid each Altar Server in following this call. Training will begin soon for those students from the parish (boys & girls) interested in becoming Altar Servers (grades 3-8).
