2 The Order of Morning Worship November 18, 2018 Traditions Worship 8:30 a.m. We Gather An * invites you to stand, as you are able. Please remember to silence your cell phone. Worship activity bags for children 5 and up are available in the Narthex. Nursery for children Young 5 s and under is available during worship. Gathering Music/Chimes Welcome & Announcements Introit We Have Come into His House Ballinger *Call to Worship Leader: Look at the birds of the air; they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet God provides for the basic sustenance of life. People: May our hearts be open to trust you. Leader: Look at the birds of the air; they neither study nor plan nor plot their course, and yet God writes the instinct for migration into their hearts. People: May our eyes be open to see you. Leader: Look at the birds of the air; they neither talk nor vote nor debate their responsibility, yet God weaves them into communities which nurture and defend. People: May our hands be open to serve you. Leader: Oh God, you are worthy of our trust. People: We open ourselves as we worship you together. *Hymn of Praise #694 Come, Ye Thankful People, Come (red hymnal) Prayer of Confession Lord, we confess that the worry in our lives reveals a lack of trust in you. We have brought unnecessary stress upon ourselves by doing things our way instead of yours. We have tried to make do with our own resources, forgetting that you are the source of everything we need for life. We have relied on our own wisdom, doubting that you will generously give far greater wisdom to all who ask. We have trusted in our own plans for the future, neglecting to commit our ways to you. We have tried to meet the needs of our lives on our own, instead of seeking your kingdom and righteousness first. Forgive us, O Lord, for our lack of trust. Teach us instead to walk in the surpassing knowledge that you are in control. Amen. Words of Assurance Children s Message Pastor Lou Children are invited to join us downstairs in the Hosanna room for our Children in Worship program.
3 Time of Commitment A Reading from the Hebrew Scriptures Jeremiah 33:10-11 (TLB) The Lord declares that the happy voices of bridegrooms and of brides and the joyous song of those bringing thanksgiving offerings to the Lord will be heard again in this doomed land. The people will sing: Praise the Lord For he is good and his mercy endures forever! For I will make this land happier and more prosperous than it has ever been before. Song of Praise For the Beauty of the Earth DIX As the choir sings, you are invited to bring your commitment cards forward. We Share the Word A Reading from the Gospel of Matthew Matthew 6:25-34 (The Message) Sermon First Things First Rev. Louis Grettenberger Pastoral Prayer The Lord s Prayer Our Father, who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on Earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, forever. Amen We Respond to the Word Offertory Let us Sing Jubilate Deo! Gilpin Response Now Thank We All Our God Prayer of Dedication Now thank we all our God with heart and hands and voices, Who wonderous things has done, in whom this world rejoices; Who from our mothers arms has blessed us on our way With countless gifts of love, and still is ours today. All things come from you, O God, and with gratitude we return to you what is yours. All that we are, and all that we have, is a trust from you. And so, in gratitude for all your gifts, we offer you ourselves, and all that we have, in union with Christ s offering for us. By your Holy Spirit make us one with Christ, one with each other, and one in ministry to all the world; through Jesus Christ our Savior. Amen. We are Sent Forth *Final Hymn #62 All Creatures of Our God and King (red hymnal) *Benediction/Chimes/Parting Music
