Instead they are guideposts that point us in the direction of good living. Accordingly, good living requires loving God and loving one another. We should not follow God s laws out of fear of what might happen if we don t, but rather view them as a foundation for building relationships and trust with one another and with God. The Shema prayer of Orthodox Jews is based on the reading from Deuteronomy today, Hear, O Israel. Every morning people recite the prayer as a profession of their love for God and pledge their obedience to God throughout the day. They pass on their love of God to their children, from one generation to the next. CHURCH CONTRIBUTION UPDATE for St. Rose of Lima School Families The Parish Office has mailed the 2018 Contribution Statement to all families. Please take time to review your report to confirm that all donations have been applied to your account. Remember that the Pastor s Discretionary Discount for tuition is available to those Roman Catholic families who are registered members of St. Rose of Lima Church and approved by the Pastor. In addition to being registered, the families must also: q q q q Regularly participate in Sunday mass and Holy Days of Obligation at St. Rose Support the mission of the parish by giving fully of their time, talent, and treasure Families must have completed all service hours (PPP) by participating in the school carnival and other parish events Contribute a minimum total of $1,250 by utilizing the weekly parish envelopes or weekly online giving through My E- Offering throughout the year The Pastor will review and approve families eligible for the Pastor s Discretionary Discount in December. BEREAVEMENT GROUP The Parish of St Rose of Lima sponsors the bereavement support group on Thursdays, in the parish office work room from 7:00pm to 8:30pm November 8th, and 29th December 6th, 13th, and 27th Contact: Dee O'Brien or Linda Cabassa CROCHET & KNITTING MINISTRY We make prayer shawls, lap blankets, and baby blankets that are distributed to the Veterans Hospital, Respect Life or sick parishioners needing comfort. The fast pace of living and instant connection to all that is happening around the world are constantly distracting us from our spiritual priorities. When do we set aside time to evaluate honestly our present relationship with God, ourselves and others? Now is the perfect time to deepen our personal commitment of faithful love and service as a disciple of Christ. Virtus at St. Rose of Lima Mark your calendars. Saturday, November 10th at 9:00 am, Saturday, January 12th, 2019 at 9:00 am. All the sessions will be held in the School Cafeteria. ROSE OF LIMA PARISH Page 7 NATIONAL VOCATION AWARENESS WEEK NVAW - November 4 th to November 10th is an annual week-long celebration of the Catholic Church in the United States dedicated to promote vocations to ordained ministry and consecrated life through prayer and education, and to renew our prayers and support for those who are considering one of these vocations. PLEASE PRAY FOR ALL WHO ARE DISCERNING THE CALL OF CHRIST! PRAYER FOR VOCATIONS Gracious God, thank you for calling us at Baptism to be your people. In response to your call we again say, "Yes." Keep us faithful to your mission and our vocation. Bless with a renewed spirit of zeal and enthusiasm all who dedicate their lives in service to your people. Inspire more women and men of faith and compassion to serve as lay ministers and deacons, sisters, brothers and priests. Fill them with your Spirit of Wisdom to proclaim the Good News and to witness your presence among us.
