3 May 7, 2017 ST. ROSE OF LIMA PARISH Page 3 THE CALL OF THE GOOD SHEPHERD Fourth Sunday of Easter The Twenty-third Psalm, today s responsorial psalm, is arguably the best known of all the psalms. The line that reads Even though I walk in the dark valley / I fear no evil; for you are at my side / with your rod and your staff / that give me courage (Psalm 23:4) connects this week s scriptures to the wonderful story of the road to Emmaus, which we heard last week. The Lord Jesus, our Good Shepherd, is constantly at our side. He calls us each by name, beckoning us into a deeper relationship with him. That call, issued to each of us at the moment of our baptism, carries with it the promise of the Good Shepherd: I came so that they might have life and have it more abundantly (John 10:10). BLESSINGS AND CONGRATULATIONS TO REV. MR. GARY DE LOS SANTOS Deacon Gary de los Santos, former parish manager and parishioner of St. Rose, will be ordained to the Priesthood on Saturday May 13, at the Cathedral of St. Mary. Then, on Sunday, May 14, Father Gary will celebrate his First Mass here with us at 11:00 am, followed by a reception in the School auditorium. EVERYONE IS INVITED TO JOIN FATHER GARY FOR THIS THANKSGIVING MASS AND RECEPTION.

Our Community Life Ministry exists to sponsor activities that build our sense of community at St. Rose of Lima. We are in need of help! Today s scripture readings emphasize the Easter promises of everlasting tenderness and joy in the protective arms of our Good Shepherd! Like the first disciples, we are called to abundant life by responding to the Lord s voice. (John 10:10) We are assured that the Master of heaven and earth will forever tend his flock as guardian of our souls. (1 Peter 2:25) How are we sharing this Good News with others each day? REQUESTS FOR PASTORAL VISITS With the ongoing growth of our Parish and School community, there are more requests for pastoral visits among our elderly and home-bound parishioners. The St. Rose of Lima Council of Catholic Women will be hosting its 2 nd Annual Gift and Scholarship Bake Sale next Sunday, May 7 th. Proceeds from the bake sale go to the St. Rose Scholarship Fund. We appreciate your enthusiastic support of noble and worthy project. Education is a precious gift to give. Your help and sponsorship is greatly appreciated. During this springtime month of the year we traditionally honor Our Blessed Mother by special devotions: - Say the rosary, often - How to leaflets are at the entrances to the Church - Come for morning Mass with group rosary said twenty minutes before each Mass - We have a pilgrim virgin visitation to our parish homes whereby a blessed statue of Mary is brought to your home for your family and friends to honor her. This is a wonderful way to enrich your family prayer life by gathering around her each day to say the rosary. She travels from home to home through the work of the Legion of Mary and can be brought to your home by just putting your name in the home visitation book on the podium at the main church entrance or leaving your request at the parish office. - Have enthronement of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in your home by leaving your request at the parish office. This is also very much recommended to follow the pilgrim virgin visit because Mary s work is to bring her Son to us and us to Him. St. Rose of Lima Church, will be holding our own V Encuentro, which consists of 5 sessions held in small groups, concluding with a Parish Celebration. If you are interested in participating in the V Encuentro sessions, please contact Vilma Lou at and Alba Luz Mejìa at Take action! We will be protagonists of the new evangelization and respond to the great appeal that makes us our Holy Father Francis: "Go to the peripheries."
