3 November 20, 2016 ST. ROSE OF LIMA PARISH Page 3 WHAT IS HAPPENING IN OUR PARISH FOR THANKSGIVING THIS YEAR? 1. HELP FOR OUR NEEDY BROTHERS AND SISTERS Girl Scouts Troop 415 are collecting food and monetary donations for needy families for Thanksgiving. Cartons are placed at the doors of the Church for this purpose. We are requesting CANNED AND NON-PERISHABLE GOODS. Envelopes for donations for turkeys for the Thanksgiving Drive for the needy are on the tables at each entrance to the church and also in the pews. We invite you to help by placing your donation in the envelope and putting them in the collection basket or drop them off at the Parish Office. We, along with our needy brothers and sisters, thank you in advance for your concern and generosity. 2. THANKSGIVING MASSES The times for the THANKSGIVING DAY MASSES are 8:15 A.M. AND 10:00 A.M. There will not be a Mass at 6:45 a.m. on Thanksgiving Day. The SPECIAL THANKSGIVING DAY MASS will be at 10:00 a.m. Before enjoying all the festivities that are naturally a part of this day, let us turn to God and thank Him for His goodness to all of us. Surely we would be lacking in courtesy to the Lord if we were to ignore worshiping Him as a parish family on this great day. It is not a day of obligation, but it is great to see so many turning up to praise the Lord not because they have to but because they want to! Refreshments will be served on the Pavilion after the 10:00 a.m. Mass. 3. THANKSGIVING COLLECTION The Special Collection taken up at the Thanksgiving Masses will go to the Saint Vincent de Paul Society. The Society provides much needed support for the needy of our Parish. Please help them out!

4 Page 4 ST. ROSE OF LIMA PARISH November 5, 2017 Thirty-first Sunday in Ordinary Time THE GREATEST AMONG US Whom do you admire? Is it the President of the United States or a movie star or a billionaire? These are people whom the world exalts as great. Like the Pharisees in today s Gospel, they have places of honor wherever they go. Would you like to follow in their footsteps? The scriptures for today offer different examples for us to follow. Jesus tells us that the greatest among us are the servants. These are the people we are to honor and imitate. We are called to be like Paul, who worked hard to serve the needs of his communities, and Jesus, who gave his life in service to the world. SHARING FRANCISCAN SPIRITUALITY - BY SR. JO. In you, Lord, I have found my peace. This sung response for today s Psalm 131 gratefully acknowledges and accepts the faithfulness of our Living God. By the ever-present grace of God, we are empowered to face and conquer our daily challenges without fear. As St. Paul reminds us in the second reading, God always remains with us so that we may know and trust the word of God now at work in us. (1 Thes. 2:13) LEGION OF MARY Mass for Deceased Legionaries The annual Mass for deceased members of the Legion of Mary will be held on Saturday, November 11, 2017, at 8:15 A.M. at St. Rose of Lima. A group Rosary will be said before the Mass and there will be a reception afterwards in the Kiosk area. Everyone is invited, and most especially our auxiliary members, whose prayers give wings to Our Lady s work, as well all the relatives of the deceased active and auxiliary members. It is with great joy that we invite you to consider your son or daughter as an altar server at Saint Rose of Lima s. The Altar Server is an integral part of the Holy Liturgy. This is indeed a special calling to serve at the Altar of the Lord while assisting the priests. The altar server depends on your support as they rely on you their parents to bring them to Mass. We will have a special training on December 2, 2017 from 9:00-11:30 am, which allows the altar server a reassurance on the expectation he or she will conduct at the Lord s altar. Please do not wait for the last minute to find out that you cannot participate in you child s (ren) activities because you are not in compliance with the Archdiocese of Miami requirements Virtus training and background check-fingerprints. These requirements are also for any family members attending any of the activities, for example, grandparents, uncles-aunts, nannies, cousins, to name a few. If you are not sure about your status with these two requirements, please contact Mrs. Carmen Matos-Raia at (305) , or by at craia@srlschool.com, this is the fastest way to reach me. You should be able to log in your own Virtus account and see what your status is. Every volunteer needs to be current in reading the monthly bulletins and have a background check, fingerprints current every five years. For your convenience, we will be having a few workshops here at St. Rose: Wednesday, November 29th, at 6:00 PM Saturday, January 13th, 2018, at 9:00 AM You must register on line at and select the date and time you wish to attend. If you attended a Virtus training already, make sure to read your bulletins. If your account has been suspended for non compliance, jrayburn@theadom.org and ask her to activate it for you.
