Today we celebrate another showing, later in time, to a group gathered at the Jordan River. John hesitated to baptize Jesus, whom he recognized as one mightier than I.

3 January 13, 2019 ST. ROSE OF LIMA PARISH Page 3 CALLED TO SERVE For many weeks now, we have been celebrating the appearance of the divine presence in human form. As a child, he came to Mary and Joseph, was seen by the shepherds, and then by some wandering magi from the East. Today we celebrate another showing, later in time, to a group gathered at the Jordan River. John hesitated to baptize Jesus, whom he recognized as one mightier than I. But he did as Jesus asked, and the Holy Spirit descended and heaven s voice spoke to Jesus, You are my beloved Son. Jesus was beginning his public life of teaching and service. Soon he would start calling others to join him. Peter was one of the first to be called by Jesus. In today s second reading, he announces the heart of the message, peace through Jesus Christ, who is Lord of all. Peter was called, and you and I are called to spread that message and to serve God s word. ARE YOU SEEKING SPIRITUAL GUIDANCE OR DIRECTION? Within each of us lies the desire to find meaning beyond the moment to discover our true selves to grow closer to God. Spiritual direction is a graced way to explore that deeper connection with God by reflecting deeply on your everyday experiences in the light of Scripture and prayer. This ministry is not about problem-solving or therapy, and not about being directed. Rather, it is a shared journey of encouragement to grow in relationship with God, self, others and creation. BEREAVEMENT GROUP The Parish of St Rose of Lima sponsors the bereavement support group on Thursdays, in the parish office work room from 7:00pm to 8:30pm. Using the prayer shown below, our Parish Community will participate in this Novena at the conclusion of all Masses from January 14-22, Everyone is encouraged to join their voices in prayer for the respect of human life! These items are blessed by our priest. We meet the 1st and 3rd Wednesday in the parish office workroom from Noon to 3:00 pm. Please join us. We are in need of yarn donations.
