Let s see how things go with the rummage sale this month or else we may have to look at other ways to find funding. Grand Knight and District Deputy 23 Dave McKee Just as a reminder, those members who are First Degree only, there will be a 2nd and 3rd Degree held in Springfield on September 30th. It will be from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Let Tom Karl know if you plan to go or need a ride. KC BREAKFAST REPORT See separate article following this page. Celebration of Life Wanda & Doyle Eubanks On Saturday morning, October 6th, the Eubanks family will visit our parish hall for a celebration of life for both Doyle and Wanda Eubanks. We have use of the Parish Hall from 10:30 to 4:00 p.m. if we need it that long. This venue is open to all Knights, families and parishioners who want to come. A Rosary will begin at 10:30 a.m. and that will be followed by a social time. A light lunch will be served at around noon time. That is not everything, but you get the drift. RSVP Call Tom & Jo Karl by September 28th at Rummage Sale 2018 The rummage sale this year will be on Friday and Saturday September 14/15th 9am-3pm. Once again, we will do it from the garage on Inlet Ave., while the Altar Society uses the Parish Hall. Please come to help set up the garage this Thursday at 9 a.m. if you are available. We will finalize our plans at the meeting on Thursday evening. If you have items for donation please bring them to the garage on Thursday at 9 a.m. or to the meeting or call Dave or Tom Council In Action Once again, our Council was instrumental in helping the community with Stuff A Bus collection of school supplies at the Lincoln City Outlet stores on Friday morning August 30th. Don and Donna Flanagan as well as Tom and Jo Karl helped to collect and store many thousands of dollars worth of school supplies and some money donated throughout that day.

4 Page 4 Your Scholarship Money At Work Too often, we give, provide or make available money for our Charitable Works. One of these the use of the Robert Robinet Scholarship Fund. The following letter was sent by our most recent recipient, Daniel Urdelas. His heartfelt thanks will warm your hearts. Hope you and the fellow Knights and everyone at the parish have been doing well lately! I just thought I might reach out to you to say hi and give you an update on what I've been up to lately. This summer I was staying in Hillsboro because I was taking some summer classes at PSU and then transfer the credits back over to Pacific once everything starts up again. My classes were held every day at one of OHSU's buildings on the south waterfront so I just took the MAX there every morning, even if its a bit of a long commute. My classes at PSU ended this last Friday and we started classes here at Pacific today, so I didn't have much of a break. This will be my junior year at Pacific and honestly, it's been going by way too fast! I'm fairly involved on campus with being part of some clubs and working for student activities on campus. I also volunteer in the medical/surgical unit at a local hospital so that keeps me busy outside of school. I also try to help out with the local Knights over in Hillsboro whenever I can, but sometimes its difficult with my college schedule. I'm not sure if you remember or if I ever mentioned it, but I'm really hoping to eventually go to pharmacy school for my graduate work and for the most part I still am. However, I recently got referred by a family friend to one of the pharmacy supervisors at OHSU and he treated me to lunch for our meeting which was very kind of him. I was hoping he might be able to offer me some kind of opportunity to get some kind of experience at OHSU, but unfortunately, the official policy doesn't allow for pharmacy volunteers of any kind. However, he suggested, without discouraging my going into pharmacy work, that I look into other options as an eye-opener. Thus, he's currently working to have me do some shadowing in OHSU's ophthalmology department as well as shadowing some PAs at the main hospital. So that's very exciting. To be quite honest, the college has been getting really difficult lately and it been so stressful and I'm a little behind in my major. The PSU summer classes were an attempt to catch up. I know I'm not the only one that's struggling, but it just seems like it sometimes. Its gotten to the point where I'm really concerned about graduating on time and I'm also concerned about how this might reflect on a grad school application. I'm just trying to stay confident and not be too discouraged. So if I might humbly ask my fellow Knights to pray for me, I would be very appreciative. I will continue to keep you all in my prayers as well. I hope you've all been staying happy and healthy since I left. I do miss the coast and the ocean quite a bit so please enjoy it for me! Also, please send my regards to Father Sebasty and everyone there. You're all always in my prayers. God bless. Vivat Jesus Daniel Urdelas Brothers, with young men like Daniel being in our ranks, I can see that the future of the Knights of Columbus will be in safe hands. He is truly an inspiration to me and others who think that they have it rough; but in reality, it is not too bad after all!
5 Page 5 Assembly 0903 In Action Our Lincoln City/Newport/Waldport Assembly 0903 was called to action for the installation of Fr. Joseph Hoang as the Pastor of St. Anthony s Church in Waldport on Tuesday morning, August 21st. The church was completely filled with the overflow going into the cry room and some people standing up. Afterwards, a luncheon of hot and cold food along with cake and ice cream was made available for those attending the installation. Fr. Ignacio Llorente, from Corvallis, was the installing official for the Archdiocese. Fr. Joseph Hoang
6 September 2018 Council 9529 Page 6 Raise The Roof 2018 Once again, David Beatty and his intrepid cooks were a mainstay of feeding the hungry patrons at Raise The Roof on July 14th. Hamburgers, cheeseburgers, hot dogs and ears of corn went flying off the grill to help everyone get rid of their hunger pangs. It was a mouth drooling event that capped a great weekend and it was done by our Council Many of the Knight s wives were helping out at other booths and areas to ensure a successful day. Thank you Brother Knights and families for all that you do for the Council and St. Augustine s Parish.
