You can volunteer for the Pantry in several ways; volunteer for weekly shifts during our hours of operation, become a member of the Food Crew, be a driver to pick up groceries or be a Pantry Pal. Pantry Pals is our group of volunteers who assist us during one-time activities or special events such as the Souper Bowl. We appreciate your support. BIRTHRIGHT CARNATIONS: The Mother s Day Carnation Project is the primary fundraising event held by Birthright of Framingham. Carnations will be available after all Masses. The Birthright Center is staffed entirely by volunteers and does not charge for its services, but relies on donations from generous supporters to continue helping pregnant women in need. 3 Dear Members of the St. Mary s Parish Family, April 29, th Sunday of Easter Thank you to all who welcomed Father Charles so warmly when I was away last weekend. He told me how much he appreciated the warm hospitality. He also left both a note and a voic expressing that the music he experienced at Mass here was the best he s ever heard, in a Catholic parish. Well done Choirs! Today we receive a powerful reminder that by God s grace anyone can change. Saul, having encountered the Risen Lord, tries to embrace the Christian community in Jerusalem. Understandably, they are suspicious and afraid of Saul, who had previously persecuted their members. Saul s conversion, though, was sincere. He would later say that God chose him as the greatest of sinners to demonstrate that no one is beyond the mercy and saving power of God as made available to us in Christ Jesus. Is there anyone who has badly hurt you or those you love? Is there someone you see as totally lacking in goodness and rotten to the core? If so, be careful not to reject or vilify that person a person who like all of us is still a work in progress. Pray for them and remember that the degree of forgiveness you extend to them will be measured back to you by God. Jesus had told His disciples to love their enemies and pray for those who persecuted them. I believe that some in the early, persecuted Church must have been praying hard for Saul, and that their prayers played a part in his becoming St. Paul. In the end it took Barnabas, whose name means Son of Consolation, to introduce Saul to the other Christian leaders and slowly accomplish his acceptance into the fledgling Church. Many of us have been gifted by God with a Barnabus in our lives a Son or Daughter of Consolation who was there for us and took our part when no one else was willing to do so. Thank God for that person today, pray for them, and consider how you are called to honor them and Jesus by yourself being an instrument of consolation to others. Is there someone in your family, neighborhood, school, or workplace that like Saul no one seems to be willing to give a chance? Be their Barnabas, confident that Christ is within them waiting to be acknowledged. Waiting to be loved. As St. Paul himself would later write in his Letter to the Corinthians, Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and the God of all consolation, who consoles us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to console those who are in any affliction with the consolation with which we ourselves are consoled by God. MARY S SPRING BBQ: St. Mary s Annual Spring Barbecue is Saturday, May 12 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM in Father Haley Hall. St. Mary s Mission Trip teams will be traveling to Houston this summer to help communities still trying to recover from the devastating effects of Hurricane Harvey. By letting us spread mulch at your home, you can help too. Money you spend on our labor will help fund our trips this year bringing the mission of St. Mary s to families who need it most. The facilitator guide to the Catholic Climate Covenant program, Beyond a Throwaway Culture, states [f]rom contributing to land and marine pollution to increasing our use of carbon-producing fuels, our reliance on single-use plastics has had a devastating effect on God s creation. The good news is that we can solve this problem. We can all play a role in reducing plastic pollution and minimizing our contribution to what Pope Francis calls a throwaway culture by working together as a community. KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS TENTH ANNUAL CHARITY RAFFLE: One raffle ticket costs $5 and a book of five tickets sell for $20. Grand prize is $1000! Proceeds from this fund raiser have benefitted local charities such as the Holliston Pantry Shelf, Holliston Senior Center, as well as our St. Mary s Parish. Various Veterans charities such as Homes for our Troops, IPODS for Veterans, and Habitat for Humanity have been given donations. Tickets will be sold on weekends in the Spring at downtown Holliston stores and grocery stores in Medway, Ashland, Bellingham, and Milford. The Drawing will be held on June 20. Updates include, but are not limited to, publishing the weekly bulletin, monthly newsletter, and general content like new images and messages. This is a great opportunity to share your website development skills and make significant contributions to St. Mary's budding online presence! St. Mary s Parish has been blessed to receive a two year Grant by the Archdiocese of Boston in partnership with St. Augustine Institute to offer the new evangelization tool FORMED for our parish family. Please note: Younger children are welcome but must be accompanied by their parents and be able to sit and engage in the lesson. Older children are welcome to CLOW as assistants to the adult leaders. Children and families are to bring their Rosary beads and flowers. We will pray the Rosary during this devotion and honor Mary for her Yes to God s divine plan for our salvation. Everyone is welcome to join in this beautiful devotion. GRADE 5 GENERAL SESSION ON MARY: Bob Doolittle will speak to the Grade 5 students on Monday, May 7 from 3:00 to 4:30 PM on our Blessed Mother. He will have a presentation on Marian apparitions and guide the students on the Holy Rosary. Teachers are to attend. Parents and parishioners are welcome. So many truths about Joseph that I never heard put into words before. I was overwhelmed with an appreciation for St. Joseph - Mary Kay. VBS July At Shipwrecked kids will learn Bible points each day through songs, snacks and hands on activities. Space is limited to 150 children so register now! We provide child care for children under age 5 whose parents are volunteering the entire week at VBS. Teen volunteers must be in Grade 7 or above.
