The menu will include rigatoni with red sauce, rigatoni with broccoli and chicken, rigatoni with butter, meatballs, salad, rolls and soda, water, juice and Italian pastries. Benefit concert Defined by Chicago radio commentator Paul Harvey as the heir to Rubinstein and Horowitz, Roberto Plano performs regularly throughout North America and Europe notably at Lincoln Center, Sala Verdi, Salle Cortot, Wigmore Hall and the Herkulessaal, and has performed with orchestras around the world. Paola del Negro has received the First Prize in over twenty national and international piano competitions, and has likewise performed around the world as a soloist and chamber musician. 4 TWENTY-NINTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME OCTOBER 22, 2017 FEAST OF ALL SAINTS ~ WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 1, A HOLY DAY OF OBLIGATION: Holy Day Masses will be celebrated at 9 AM, 5 PM & 6:30 PM. Today the Church celebrates the Feast of All Saints honoring and asking the prayerful intercession of all the Holy Men, Women, and Children who have gone ahead of us in faith and now live in the light of God s presence. Some of the saints have been declared by the Church and their names are known to us. Most, however, are known only to God, and this day we both commemorate their holy lives and recall our own calling to become saints holy witnesses of Christ s love to the world. ALL SOULS CANDLELIGHT MASS ~ THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 2: This Special Mass at 7:00 PM will include a candlelight memorial, with a reading of the names of all those buried from our parish since All Souls last year. A candle inscribed with each name will be lit, which the family is invited to take home after the Mass. Any and all parishioners are invited to come pray for their own departed loved ones at this beautiful celebration of faith and hope. The full choir will be ministering. For more information on WINGS call Linda Calabrese at INTERFAITH JOURNEY WITH THE BLESSED MOTHER: Next Sunday, Oct. 29 from 3:30-5:30 PM at the Fatima Shrine. Our theme will be "Mary in the Coptic Orthodox Tradition - Egypt" with speaker Fr. Mark Cherubim from St. Mark Coptic Orthodox Church, Natick. RCIA: This group is for anyone interested in exploring the Catholic faith. This includes Christians of other faiths, nonbaptized persons, persons Baptized Catholic but who never received their First Communion, Confirmation or both. The first part of RCIA is called Inquiry, an opportunity to learn about the faith and ask questions in an informal and supportive setting. At a certain point, individuals then decide if they wish to continue RCIA in preparation for receiving their Sacraments of Initiation at the great Easter Vigil. RCIA meets roughly twice a month with the schedule tailored to the needs of each year s candidate group. Catholic spouses or fiancés are more than welcome to attend, often coming as a couple. 5 TWENTY-NINTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME OCTOBER 22, 2017 PASTOR S NOTE: This weekend we celebrate World Mission Sunday, a day that always reminds me of St. Theresa of Lisieux patroness of my very first parish, and also patroness of the Missions. Theresa longed to carry the Gospel to distant lands, but was prevented from doing so by poor health. Instead, she dedicated herself to a life of prayer, corresponding with missionaries and constantly remembering them to the Lord. Like Theresa, most of us will not carry the Word of God to foreign places firsthand, but we all have a responsibility to support those who give their lives over to this important work. We do so in part by the annual Propagation of the Faith collection taken up this weekend, but also by fostering vocations to the Missions and by asking God s good grace upon all missionaries through prayer. In a very real sense, we are all missionaries bearing the love of Christ into our homes, our workplaces, and into the lives of everyone we meet. I remain personally grateful to the people of this parish, who in so many simple but significant ways make the presence of Christ known to me. God bless you! TODAY ~ BABY SHOWER FOR THE UNBORN: Please place your donations of new baby items in or around the baby stroller in the sanctuary. These gifts will directly assist mothers in crisis pregnancies through the Pregnancy Help program of our Archdiocese. After this weekend s Masses the baby stroller will be available for further item drop offs in the Parish Center Lobby through Sunday, October 29. Thank you for supporting families in their time of need. TODAY ~ EPIC: EPIC High School Youth Ministry began last week and will meet tonight Sunday, October 22 (if you were unable to meet on Wednesday), in Fr. Haley Hall from 7:30 to 8:45 P.M. The first EPIC event is a trip to My Brother s Table on November 4. Please look for your EPIC packet of information in the mail! Please join us for faith, fun and fellowship in Open to students in grade 9 to 12. May), and at least one EPIC Service Event, is a pre-requisite for participation in our St. Mary s 2018 Summer Mission Trip to do Hurricane Harvey Relief. Just as for years our parish teens have reached out doing Hurricane Katrina and Superstorm Sandy Relief, now we will respond to those impacted by the single greatest flooding event in our nation s history. MIDDLE SCHOOL YOUTH GROUP MEETING: Sunday, November 5 from 6:30 8 PM in Fr. Haley Hall. As always at our November Meeting we will have a beautiful prayer service for our beloved departed. There will also be signups for the November 10, Veteran s Day Paintball Trip and the November 20, 7 th Grade Bingo Service Trip to Saint Patrick s Manor. All 6 th, 7 th, & 8 th Graders are invited to join us for faith, friendship, service and fun. Bring a friend! BOY SCOUT TROOP 14: Troop 14 Turkey Roast and Campout: Boy Scout Troop 14 will be holding their annual Turkey Roast on Saturday, November 4. This has been a tradition for Troop 14 for many years and features open fire roasted turkeys, traditional Thanksgiving side dishes and a large array of desserts. The dinner is open to all boys of scouting age (11 to 17 years old) and their families. You do not need to be a Scout this is a chance to get a taste of Scouting. Arrive at 1 PM to participate in scouting activates including fire building, cooking and camping skills. Dinner will start at 5 PM. All activities are held at the Holliston Sportsman s Association, 137 Bullard Street, Holliston. As part of this event, a Campout open to all Webelo s and a parent will be held. Participation in the Campout begins at noon on Saturday and concludes after a camp breakfast on Sunday (with enough time after to get to Church). PARENTS OF FAITH AND HOPE: Would you like to talk to other parents about how to advocate for your child with teachers and school administration? At our next meeting on Friday, November 3, we will discuss this topic. We are a very supportive group of parents of children, teenagers and young adults with special needs, and those struggling with mental health, learning disabilities and other life challenges. There are three Saturday rehearsals lasting one hour and one dress rehearsal on Christmas Eve before the Mass. CHILDRENS CHRISTMAS NATIVITY: A mailing is being sent to all families with children in Grades 1 4 to participate in the Christmas Eve Nativity at the 4:00 PM Vigil Mass next week. Forms must be in on or before Wed., Nov. 15. Families will be notified by if their child is selected for a role. GRADE 2 PARENT MEETINGS: Today, October 22 at 8:15 AM and 10:45 AM. Parents are to meet in Fr. Haley Hall while their children attend classes for formation on the Sacrament of Penance. These meetings are valuable for parents. Coffee, tea and refreshments will be served. Come just as you are and meet the other parents. CONFIRMATION I AND II PARENT MEETINGS: Parents of Grade 10 students will meet on Tues., Oct. 24 or Thur., Oct. 26 at 6:30 PM in Fr. Haley Hall. PROTECTING GODS CHILDREN (PGC) WORKSHOPS: New volunteers serving in any capacity must complete a CORI, have a signed Code of Conduct and completed PGC. PGC workshops are scheduled in other Metro-West parishes. Go to click first time registrant and view list of sessions. The dates and parishes offering PGC for the Archdiocese of Boston will be listed. ADULT FORMATION: EPIC continues on Tuesday, October 24 in Room 3 4 from 10:00 AM to Noon. BETHANY HOUSE SOAP COLLECTION: Sister Katherine has asked St. Mary s to help again this year with the prison ministry at Bethany House by collecting bars of soap only (single or in packages). There will be a plastic bin outside the Library for soap donations. We are asking all families to help in any way they can this year. Thank you for your support! THANK YOU TO ALL OUR TEACHERS AND GRADE COORDINATORS! Our Religious Education Program would be impossible without our dedicated volunteer coordinators and teachers. Many of our teachers this year are teaching more than one and two grades while working full time jobs and caring for their families. They come prepared for class to inspire the hearts and minds of our children to form a relationship with Jesus so that they can actively live out the Christian values their parents have taught them at home with prayer, worship and service to others. St. Mary s thanks all of you for giving of your time to inform, form and make the light of Christ come alive for our young people. HOLLISTON NEWCOMERS ANNUAL THANKS- GIVING BASKET PROJECT: Students in the religious education program will be collecting non-perishable food items such as: Canned or Jarred Turkey Gravy, Canned Corn, Bag or Box of Stuffing, Box of Brownie Mix, Box of cranberry or pumpkin bread mix, Can or bag of coffee oz., Box of black tea bags, Roasting Pans and Holiday Napkins. We also invite the parish community to participate in collecting non-perishable food items this year for the need is much greater this year for families in need of a Thanksgiving dinner. Donations can be dropped off at the R.E. office.
