Putano for information prior to the birth of the child. For adults, contact Fr. Charles for the RCIA process. Marriage Arrangements must be made at least six months in advance with Fr. Charles or Msgr. Putano. One of the parties must be registered in the parish. Hospitalized Please notify the parish office when a family member is in the hospital. Very often we do not receive this information. Anointing of the Sick If you are preparing to enter the hospital for any reason and would like to be anointed, please contact the parish offices. Low Gluten hosts are available for anyone who is gluten intolerant. Please stop in the sacristy before Mass to let us know. Bulletin available on either parish website.

3 Our Parishes & Pastoral Care Area Holy Day Mass Schedule The Feast of the Ascension, this year celebrated on Thursday, May 10, is a Holy Day of Obligation. Please join us at one of the Masses listed below! Cyril & Methodius 5:30pm Holy Trinity 7:00pm St. James St. Cyril s Spring Clothing Giveaway, Saturday, May 19 The big giveaway will be May 19, 10am-2pm. We need volunteers for the following: - 5/6 at 11:15am to sort clothes - 5/12 at 1:00pm to sort clothes - 5/19 from 9:00am-2:00pm to work the giveaway - Wednesdays 11am-1pm to give clothes away Please note that the center will be closed on Wednesday 5/7 & 5/14 to prepare for the 19th. The following donations are especially needed: spring & summer clothing especially for children, gently used shoes, afghans and blankets, bibles, religious pamphlets and religious articles such as rosaries, medals, etc. St. Cyril s Festival Information 2018 Festival Raffle Tickets have been mailed to parishioners. Our goal is for each parishioner to sell 5 tickets if possible. There will be an Early Bird drawing of $300 on Sunday, June 24, at 11:30 am in the Parish Center. In order to be eligible for the Early Bird Drawing, tickets must be turned in to the Parish Office by the close of business on Thursday, June Festival Sign-Up Sheets are located at the Parking Lot entrance to the church. Please consider working one of the venues, if possible. This is a major fund raising event for the church and many volunteers are needed. The Festival will be held on Sunday, July 22nd, from 11 am to 6 pm. Halupki-Making for 2018 Festival - The first halupki making session will be at 9 am in the Parish Center on WEDNESDAY, MAY 23. Please consider joing us if you are available. "Many hands make light work." No experience necessary. Holy Trinity Altar Rosary/Men s Club Potluck Holy Trinity's Altar Rosary Society and Men's Club members who plan to attend the pot-luck dinner on Tuesday, May 8 should be in the hall at 5pm; we plan to begin dinner at 5:30pm. Holy Trinity May Crowning Information Holy Trinity Altar Rosary and Men's Club members and any children who wish to participate should meet in the Gathering Area at 8:30 to line up for the opening procession for our May Crowning on Sunday, May 13. Reverend Alfred Bebel will be celebrating the 60th Jubilee of his ordination to the priesthood at the 8:45 mass on Sunday, May 20. All are invited to be present to help recognize his dedication and devotion to our parishes. A light reception will follow in the hall after the mass. THANK YOU to all who attended St. Cyril s Ethnic Dinner and made it a huge success. Despite the adverse happenings we realized a profit of $4000. A special thank you to all who donated money & the generosity shown to help defray the added expenses when we lost all the previously made halupki. A sincere thank you to Lola Kaminsky & her ingenious creativity together with all the volunteers who really saved the day. May God bless everyone for their efforts. We couldn t have done it without your help. - St. Cyril s Social Club Birthright Mother's Day Flower Sale Volunteers will be selling carnations at the entrances of Holy Trinity & St. Cyril's after each Mass on May 12 & 13. The $1.00 donation per flower will benefit women with unexpected pregnancies throughout the region. Birthright of Binghamton is a pro-life non-profit volunteer organization dedicated to helping pregnant women & their babies. Many mothers & babies of Broome & the surrounding area depend on the assistance they receive from Birthright of Binghamton. MAY DEVOTIONS AT ST. JAMES CHURCH will be held every Tuesday, 7 pm, at St. James Church, Johnson City during the month of May. Each Tuesday evening will answer the question, Why do Catholics have Marian devotions? as seen through the eyes of five different saints: St. Louis de Monforte, St. Maximilian Kolbe, St. John Paul II, St. Teresa of Calcutta, and St. Padre Pio. Please join us and share in the devotions to our Mother, Mary.

4 Sacred Sites Open House Sun, May 6th, of religious sites in Binghamton, Johnson City, Endwell and Endicott. One of the churches in our PCA is St. Patrick s, 11 Leroy Street. They will welcome visitors from 11am to 1 pm, with a presentation by Parish Historian, Kathy Reynolds at 11:30am. The event is free and open to the public. Alpha Youth All Senior High youth and Young Adults are invited to attend ALPHA YOUTH, an interactive Film Series designed to engage students in conversations about faith, life and Jesus! Every ALPHA YOUTH session has 3 key elements: Food, Talk & Discussion. ALPHA YOUTH runs on Saturdays from 5-6:30pm at a different parish in Broome County each week. MAY 6 EASTER SEASON Memorial Day Flag Placement Ceremony Flags will be placed alongside Veterans Monuments at St. Stanislaus Kostka Cemetery on Sat, May 19 at 9:30AM. This is an annual event of The Chester J. Jaskiewicz American Legion Post People interested in placing the flags are asked to meet at the Veterans Memorial Circle. The RAIN DATE Sat, May 26 at 9:30 AM. American Legion Post 1305 will hold a Memorial Service at the Cemetery at 11AM on Memorial Day, May 28. After, all are invited to the American Legion Center on Lower Stella Ireland Road for Lunch. Embrace: An Evening for Married Couples Wednesday, June 27 from 6-9pm at Our Lady of Good Counsel, 701 W Main Street, Endicott. This event will be feature a presentation by marriage veterans, Chris and Linda Padgett. The price per couple is $40. Register online by visiting embraceendicott.eventbrite.com. Mother's Day Charity Breakfast Sunday, May 13th from 8am-12pm with the Knights of Columbus at 136 Park Avenue Binghamton (phone ). Tickets available at the door, adults $9 and children under 10 are $4. Breakfast includes French toast, our famous Belgian waffles, ham, sausage links, eggs, fruit cup, orange juice, coffee, tea and milk. Come join us for Breakfast in honor of Mother s Day!! A Family Perspective Today s gospel challenges us to love one another as I have loved you. Jesus is our model and he asks us to lay down our life (our time, attention, opinions and needs) for each other. This is the sacrament of the family, when God is made visible in our sacrificial love for one another. It might seem odd, but Jesus teaches us that real freedom in life is not to be found in keeping our lives as our own, but in giving them away in loving service. The freedom that God offers us is only to be found when we make a loving self-gift to the Lord and His people. It is when we experience this authentic freedom, that we experience authentic joy.
