This charity supports projects in Ethiopia ranging from maternal health to education, disability and the elderly. Ethiopia has made huge strides forward since the devastation and despair of the famines during the 1980s. However it still has one of the highest rates of maternal mortality in the world. Ethiopia has over four million people over the age of 60 and because of the country s high mortality rate, elderly Ethiopians often find themselves with no-one to care for them. SPREAD THE MESSAGE OF LOVE AT CHRISTMAS Do you remember I asked members of the congregation to write one extra Christmas card last year as part of the MHA Christmas Friendship Appeal? Lots of churches did the same and it worked really well with every member of an MHA home or Live at Home scheme receiving a Christmas card.3 Such a simple idea but one that brought joy to many elderly people who often feel isolated or lonely. I am asking for your help to do this again please. It takes literally a minute to do. All you need to do is: Ask me for as Christmas card which I supply You write something like Dear Friend because you don t know who will receive it Add a seasonal greeting And then your name, ideally Yarm Methodist Church Then give back to me TODAY Sunday 29th November I ll then package them all up and send to MHA who distribute them. The MHA co-ordinator says the receipt of the Christmas cards brings happiness and also discussion as people like to see where the cards have been sent from. I would really appreciate your help in spreading the message of love, joy and hope this Christmas. Thank you. HILARY HALL. SATURDAY 5th Coffee Morning in the Hall SUNDAY 6th All Age Worship 9.00 Morning Worship Rev, Moira Peters Holy Communion Morning Worship Rev. 3 MOVEMBER Calling all the men of our congregation and maybe some women, join with me and grow a moustache during November in support of Prostate Cancer UK. Over the past year a number of men in our church have been diagnosed and received treatment for prostate cancer and Movember is a chance to primarily raise awareness about prostate cancer and maybe some money for Prostate Cancer UK. All you have to do is to start clean shaven and to grow a moustache of your choice during the month of November, moustaches only, not beards. There will be sponsor forms available on the project board table for anyone who would like to sponsor us. But this is all about raising awareness and spreading the word, so get growing. There will be an award for the best tash. Any donations raised will be dedicated to Tim Carless who was diagnosed and successfully treated for prostate cancer. Further information about prostate cancer and the work that Prostate Cancer UK undertakes can be found on their website at prostatecanceruk.org. MALCOLM ROBINSON. CHURCH CHRISTMAS CARD TREE At this time of year your hand gets tired of writing all those Christmas cards? Save your energy and write a Christmas card and message to all your fellow worshippers and display the card for all to see on the Church Card Tree situated in the hall. If you would also like to donate some money in lieu of expenses towards the Church Project Charity, then it would be most welcome. Simply place your donation inside an envelope, stating on the outside that enclosed money is for the Xmas card collection. If you are willing to Gift Aid your donation, then please include your name. Place your envelope in the collection plate during the service or give it to a Church Steward. Thank you. GILL BAINBRIDGE.. Merry Christmas! 5 PASTORAL VISITING Yarm Methodist Church endeavours to provide friendship and pastoral care to everyone associated with the Church. However, our Minister can t do it all by herself and so we have a team of Pastoral Visitors who distribute the Octamag and, hopefully, make friends with the people on their lists and provide pastoral care and support when necessary. The Pastoral team has seen several retirements recently, due mainly to age and health issues, and we really need some new recruits! In case you hadn t noticed, our Church is growing and we want to ensure that all who worship here (and those members who are no longer able to do so) receives pastoral care without putting too great a burden on the Pastoral team. Can YOU help? If you think you may be able to, please contact MOIRA PETERS or SHEILA HARGREAVES YARM LIONS Do you require transport to hospital, shops, to visit a friend? Do you require someone to do your shopping, the odd job around the house? To pick up a prescription? So many little jobs which were once easy are now difficult. Yarm Lions are at hand to help you. Our Motto is WE SERVE. If we can be of any help whatsoever, please ring this number or , or any of the Lions you may know. We want to be used, please use us.
