1 March 2015 From the Pastor s Heart Psalm 33:1-5 Rejoice in the Lord, O you righteous! For praise from the upright is beautiful. Praise the Lord with the harp; Make melody to Him with an instrument of ten strings. Sing to Him a new song; Play skillfully with a shout of joy. For the word of the Lord is right, And all His work is done in truth. He loves righteousness and justice; The earth is full of the goodness of the Lord. What was that joyful sound coming from that little chapel on the hill? Such a sound hasn t been heard for some time! Thank you, Caleb Roberts, for the wonderful sound of the pump organ that was given to Magalia Community Church by Annie Bidwell so long ago. What a blessing. It has added yet another dimension to worship. It really goes just as well with the Church in the Wildwood as it does with the contemporary music. How exciting! Resurrection Sunday is going to bring us a wonderful, new opportunity to share the Gospel with our community. We will be singing and rejoicing with Calvary Chapel and First Baptist Church of Paradise during our Sunrise Service. We will be starting at 6:30 to allow the other congregations time to get to their other services. I will be sharing the speaking with Pastor Sam Walker and Pastor Dave Sweet. The Bristols will be helping us as the various musicians come together to provide the music. We will be needing help with the kitchen on that day as we also share breakfast together. We will be hosting a free breakfast with the community. Worship in the Chapel will at 9:30. Be ready to hand out flyers to help invite your neighbors and friends to this service. Most importantly, pray. Pray that God sends people who need the Gospel. Pray for this service that God will give us the words to say and that the Holy Spirit will truly lead us in worship. God is busy on this ridge. I believe things are just beginning to happen here. Pray and give thanks to our Father. Give God the glory. In fact, it s usually only staffed about three months of each year. Do you know that fires can happen in our forest in any month? Bare on the Ridge is partnering with local public safety agencies to help fund ForestWatch forest fire detection cameras at the Peak s Lookout Tower. This is a system that is being used successfully in several California counties and in other states. Placing a camera system at Sawmill Peak would mean we d have a 24/7 fire watch every day of the year. The computerized system recognizes possible fires and sends the information to a live supervisor in a separate location. The supervisor can assess what the camera is seeing and send emergency responders. For years, Bare on the Ridge has raised funds to help staff the Fire Lookout. Now they have turned their attention to the camera system. Assemblyman Jim Gallagher and Supervisor Doug Teeter have given this project their endorsement. The system will cost just over $50,000. Bare on the Ridge is striving to get the new camera system installed within the next few months, since the fire season has already begun. A quartet from the Good News Blues Band and representatives from the Magalia Beautification Association with spring plants Chicken casserole, salad, fresh bread, pudding parfait and a cookie [ Ladies Nite Out is not a MCC event, but a community event that is held in the MCC Hall. ] Salad, bread, and dessert are always served A Vegetarian Option is almost always available. If you want the Vegetarian Meal, ask for it at the front of the line. March 25 Baked Potato and Salad Bar April 1 Chicken Parmesan 8 Hamburger steaks 15 Meat loaf, mashed potatoes and gravy 22 Chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and gravy 29 Baked potato and salad bar The Good News Blues Band will be performing on Sunday, April 12, at 3:00pm in the Church Hall. The concert is open to the public, and attendance is free. The Good News Band is a musical Christian outreach ministry that is different from most contemporary or traditional Christian bands. The band s repertoire consists primarily of gospel, hymns, and secular jazz/blues songs. They sometimes sprinkle in some Oldies. The band members write Christian words to add verses to the secular songs. Many times the Christian words are an answer to life s problems that are expressed in the secular lyrics. Their concerts offer a musical good time, and occasionally, a few members in the audience will be moved to get up and dance. Good News Blues is composed of trumpets, drums, keyboard, piano, saxophone, guitar, trombone, and vocals. They play at several churches in the Paradise area, as well as for community programs, like Gold Nugget Days, and at various retirement centers. John Schultheis will be the featured vocalist for this performance, but various band members take turns with the solo parts. The concert will, as usual, have a variety of music. Some of the selections will be: When The Roll Is Called Up Yonder, an 1893 gospel hymn. Stormy Weather, which was first performed in New York City s Cotton Club in Is It True What They Say About Dixie?, a numberone hit for Jimmy Dorsey and His Orchestra in I Love You For Sentimental Reasons. The biggestselling version was recorded by Nat King Cole in Mansion Over the Hilltop was most notably performed by Elvis Presley. And for something more recent, All Of Me has been recorded in the diverse styles of Willie Nelson and Michael Buble. A time for fellowship, coffee and snacks will follow the concert. On Easter Sunday, April 5, the MCC kitchen will serve a free breakfast before the 9:30 worship and celebration service. All menus are subject to change. We try to follow the listed menus, but sometimes last-minute changes are necessary. 3

4 Jesus We are working on making the Dress-a-Girl pillowcase dresses. This project will continue until we ve made ten dresses to add to the thousands being sewn at other churches in the U.S. These are for the Dress A Girl Around the World Project. Their theme is Imagine a world where every little girl owned at least one dress. Yes, there are places in this world that are so poor that some children do not have any decent, new clothing to wear. Dress a Girl s goal is to change this. Our local project is the plant sale. So keep potting, rooting, and caring for plants to donate to this MCC Crafters and Jesus project. In next month s newsletter, we ll have a date for the sale. Right now, we re thinking about June. Our closet is overflowing with fabric, felt, ribbon, lace, yarn and craft items that we don t need. So at the plant sale, we ll not only have those plants, yard items, and pots, etc., but we ll be offering these other items for sale. Pastor Kevin and Sandy have welcomed their first grandchild: Sheehan Francis Robles His parents are Daniel and Christina Robles. Sheehan was born at 7:09pm on March 15, weighing 7lbs 9oz. Thank you to all those who showed up and worked on the clean-up projects at MCC on March 7. There will be a baby shower for Krista Nichols, girlfriend of Jason Lockner, on April 11th from 1:00 until 4:00. Everyone is invited to attend. April 3 - pm Good Friday Service April 12th Sally Klein O Connor will preach. April Wes and Donna Bristol will be shooting some more scenes for the movie Chloe s Mountain. Extras will be needed for the scenes. As always, we invite anyone from the community to join us for ceramics, sewing, or crafts in the Firehouse. In HIS wonderful Service Carol Stephens and Sharon Driver, Servants April 26th Elder Rich Regel will preach. Donations of hot dogs, hamburgers, chips, and drinks for the Youth Friday Night Games will be appreciated. Servers are needed for Saturday, March 21st. The Lions Host has rented the hall, and Chef Paul will be catering.
