Prayer Corner A prayer for little children Dear Lord, when on earth you dearly loved little children. We ask now that your preserve and protect our little ones in these days when so many influences endanger their innocence; and when advocates of perversion seek to enter even the kindergarten to defile their hearts and minds. Give us good teachers who will counsel and guide them so they will come through this period of their lives unscathed and in friendship with you and all that is good and wholesome. 3 23RD SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME SEPTEMBER 10, 2017 A Note from Father Tom The dumpster is gone! For those of you who travel via School Street, and especially those of you who park in the lower lot behind the church across from Rockdale House, you know what I m talking about! The removal of the second dumpster that was used during the bulk of the reconstruction in the cellar of the church this winter and spring is an encouraging sign that we are moving forward. This is equally true for us as a parish community. This weekend we read and hear in the Sacred Scriptures that love is the fulfillment of the law. (Romans 13: 10) We also read and hear of the challenges of love. The gift of reconciliation can be hard work. Finding within ourselves that old that must give way to the new because of and out of love takes effort and honesty. Recognizing ways in which we can call each other to renewal and reconstruction requires no less. I would like to think of this time in which we find ourselves not only as a new season for our life as a parish because we see summer in the rearview mirror, but as a new season of God grace for us. The Parish Council and Parish Finance Committee will resume meetings this month. With them, with Parish Staff members, and hopefully with other members of our parish family I hope to hear the promptings of God s Spirit regarding commitments ahead that will be possible and life-giving for us. The cellar of the church is restored. The cellar and attic of the rectory have been prepared for better use to store items from the parish center. The parish center is being addressed to maximize its use for the many activities that take place there. Soon there will be composed a list of important projects that will ensure the integrity of each building. And with that stage set, we will be considering the abundant possibilities for deepening our life of faith here at St. Peter s. How do we enrich our opportunities to pray together, to reflect on the Mystery of God together, to serve, to welcome strangers or newcomers? How do we be the parish our ancestors sacrificed and struggled mightily to create? Where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I in their midst. (Matthew 18:20) Fr. Tom Edge and LifeTeen orientation night Tuesday September 12th 6:30pm In the Parish Center All kids who are new to either edge or lifeteen are encouraged to attend! How about making a Cursillo weekend? Cursillo or "short course in Christianity" is an uplifting and educational experience. Cursillo was brought from Spain to the United States in The weekend is facilitated by a team of laypeople and clergy who deliver organized talks and discussions. What the presenters add to the talks is the witness of their own lives, their struggles and triumphs in Christ. The weekend is full of laughter, prayer, great music, wonderful meals and so much more. Our final 2017 date is: Women s - October 12-15; and our upcoming 2018 Men s - February All weekends will be held at the Immaculate Conception Spiritual Renewal Center in Putnam, CT. 5 There will be an orientation night for kids and parents who are new to Edge or Lifeteen on Tuesday September 12th at 7:15pm in the parish center (5th graders and 9th graders and their parents and anyone who is new to the program) ********** Kickoff date for Lifeteen is Sunday Sept 17th 6:00pm in the parish center Meet in the youth room Kickoff date for Edge is Tuesday Sept 19th 6:30pm in the parish center Meet in the youth room First Reconciliation classes begin on September 17th at 9:30am in the parish center There will be a parent meeting in the parish center as the children begin their classes. The first Loreto gathering day scheduled for October 1st at 9:30am in the parish center. A September parents meeting will be scheduled. Watch your for details.
