We offer ongoing classes, one-time speaker events, missions, bible studies, and prayer groups in English and Spanish. We coordinate the RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) program to assist those adults becoming Catholic. We work as well with adult Catholics who want to complete their Sacraments of initiation. This year we are glad to announce our inaugural Faith Matters Speaker Series, which will offer a program each month reflecting on what it means to be a Catholic in today s culture. The series will kick off on Monday, 17 at 7 pm. Spend an evening with Deacon Larry Vaclavik, M.A. Phil, M.A.T.S., as he reflects with us on the question of how we are to live our Catholic faith as voters in this year s midterm elections. For more than a decade, Deacon Larry has been speaking on the issues of faithful citizenship, social justice, moral theology and the great freedoms and responsibilities we cherish as citizens. Whether you are interested in increasing your knowledge of the scripture and the Church, wanting to deepen your prayer life, learning to defend the faith, looking for community, struggling or searching, we have something for you. 5 Weekly Announcements & News Have you thought about becoming a Catholic? The first RCIA meeting is Tuesday, 11 at 7 pm in the Community Center. We offer an opportunity to come together in a small group to learn more about our faith. Sessions focus on the teachings and experience of Church and prepare individuals to celebrate the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist during the Easter season. Rehearsals for the St. Cecilia Choir resumed on August 29. We have 40 choir members, but our goal this year is 50! This is a great time for new members to join because we just got started for the year. Previous music experience is helpful, but certainly not required. Participants must simply possess a reasonably good singing voice (the ability to match and maintain pitch) and be willing to commit to the schedule. This choir is for adults and young adults from high school to the "young at heart". We sing each week at the 11:00 am Mass and rehearse on Wednesday evenings from 7:00 to 8:45 pm in the Church. For more information, contact Andrew at ameinen@saintcecilia.org. St. Cecilia Life Long Faith Formation Theme Embracing Christ at Mass: How do you Participate? As the work of Christ liturgy (Mass) is also an action of his Church. It makes the Church present and manifests her as the visible sign of the communion in Christ between God and men. It engages the faithful in the new life of the community and involves the "conscious, active, and fruitful participation" of everyone... it must be preceded by evangelization, faith, and conversion. It can then produce its fruits in the lives of the faithful: new life in the Spirit, involvement in the mission of the Church, and service to her unity. CCC Prime Timers' Luncheon

6 Faith Formation for Children Rosemary Munoz: Cecilia Morillo: Children s Faith Formation programs and events are for children in pre-k 4 through grade 5. Faith Formation (CCE) for children with special needs: This is the third year we are offering this class. Contact us if you or someone you know can benefit from this program. KIDs Club Schedule: 9th, 23rd and 30th: Sunday 9:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. sessions 12th and 26th: Wednesday 6:15 p.m. session 16th is Catechetical Sunday. Those that teach the faith will be commissioned at the 9:00 am.1:00 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. Masses. KIDs Club Volunteers: Volunteers are needed for the Special Needs class and KIDs Club. 7 Youth Ministry News High School David Thies: Life Teen kicks off this Sunday night at 7 pm! It is NOT too late to register!. Freshmen Retreat October 12-14, Pine Cove Columbus, TX The freshmen retreat (October 12-14) is AWESOME! The retreat theme is Psalm 139 and the retreat is meant to build up the youth as they begin this new chapter in high school! The cost is $135 and scholarships are available for the retreat. Registration forms are in the youth room. Confirmation Retreat Registration (Nov. 2-4 or Feb. 1-3) A Confirmation Retreat is REQUIRED for all youth getting Confirmed. We offer two options for retreats so that you can choose which one works best for your youth. Youth Ministry News Middle School Allison Reynolds: areynolds@saintcecilia.org St. Cecilia Nursery The St. Cecilia Nursery welcomes you and thanks you for entrusting us with your child s care. The Nursery is a free service that opens 15 minutes before the 9:00 am, 11:00 am, and 1:00 pm Masses on Sunday for children ages four months to 5 years. The Nursery also offers childcare for church-sponsored weekday and evening events with prior reservations from the event coordinator for children ages four months to 11 years. In addition, the Nursery offers childcare for Parents Night Out. Parents Night Out is a ministry that promotes marriage enrichment once a month 5pm-9:30 pm. 9 Weekly Announcements & News 17 & October 5 at 7:00 pm Training for NEW Extra-ordinary Ministers of the Eucharist has been scheduled, and a number of opportunities to attend will be offered. These lay ministers assist the regular ministers of the Eucharist (the ordained) with the distribution of the Body and Blood of Christ in the Eucharist to the faithful at Mass, as well as those in the hospital or the homebound. The requirements for serving as an EMHC are: Training for NEW Extra-ordinary Ministers of the Eucharist 18 years of age or a senior in high school. A fully initiated Catholic. Living a life in communion with the teachings of the Catholic Church. If married, must be a Catholic mariage. Administrative Assistant Position for the Liturgy & Music Department Summary: St. Cecilia is looking for a full-time Administrative Assistant for the Liturgy and Music Department. The Administrative Assistant works closely with the Director as well as the Liturgy and Music Staff to support them in providing organized and well-executed liturgy and music for the parish community. A well-qualified applicant will possess excellent administrative skills, intermediate to advanced computer competency, general knowledge of the Roman Catholic Liturgy as well as some music theory. Some nights and weekends will be required, with some flexibility in weekly schedule possible.
